We stayed at Villa Mayurana for 2 nights and it was beyond our expectations. The colonial style architecture, large pool and jacuzzi on top of a hill amidst nature (peacocks and birds) was just the relaxing holiday we wanted. We were also given the cinnamon experience where the staff taught us the process of making cinnamon. Special thank you to Mr.Buddhika and the staff for making our stay memorable. We will definitely be back and are looking forward to exploring rest of the Edwards Collection.
Since the 6 of us booked, we got the whole place to ourselves. Everything about the villa was beautiful. We loved the colonial-style touch and how each and every corner of the villa had stunning panoramic views. The staff was incredibly helpful and did their best to give us a pleasant and memorable stay, especially by cooking our favorite dishes. Can go on about this place but I'll keep it short and sweet. It is definitely a must-visit place if you need a blissful experience in the tropics. Thank you very much, Mr, Buddhika and the rest of the staff for making our stay truly memorable.
We stayed at Villa Mayurana in March 2020, during the last days before the coronavirus quarantine. Therefore we had the whole place to ourselves, which was a privilege. I have to say that after I made the bookings they just wouldn't answer the questions in my emails. There was also a mistake on the hotel's part concerning the bank charge, since we sent our payment via bank transfer. So I was initially rather sceptical. However, once we arrived the helpful and friendly manager sorted things out immediately. That was the end of our minor problems and that was when the magic began. What can I say? This is one of the most perfect places I have ever stayed at - and I have traveled a lot around the world! The location is simply breathtaking, with endless panoramic views over vast tropical jungle, all the way down to the ocean. Straight out of a story book! The villa itself, in colonial style, surrounded by cool verandas, is the epitome of style and tropical chic, combined with the romantic feel of old-time Sri Lanka. It is full of beautiful pieces of art, from the fantastic handmade persian carpet in the living room to beautiful colonial-style furniture that are true collector items. This is a place of true character and incredible atmosphere. The sense of peace is mesmerising: All you can hear is the sound of birds. Tropical trees with beautiful flowers are everywhere. Peacocks visit regularly the immaculate gardens and even fly up to the roof. The highlight of course is the big swimming pool, with crystal clear water and the most sensational views one can imagine. I cannot think of a more perfect location for a swimming pool. Pure bliss! The suites (we had the red and orange suites) are spacious, deliciously cool, tasteful, with extremely comfortable beds and really great bathrooms. The food is absolutely first class with the freshest ingredients: We had fantastic fresh tuna and one of the most elaborate Sri Lankan curries with at least seven different dishes. But even more ordinary stuff like pasta with seafood was great, as was breakfast with a great selection to choose from. Last but not least, the staff are immensely kind, polite and helpful. One feels more like a guest in an aristocratic home. The real feel of the grand old days of travel! Definitely not the impersonal style of resorts. Congratulatins to Villa Mayurana! Do yourself a favor and come here. Our absolute highlight in Sri Lanka!…
We had 2 nights here and already would like to come back! Architecturally stunning and decor is very stylish. Views over plantations and distant views of lake. Rooms are large, beds extremely comfortable, well equipped including Bose speaker. Pool and gym are a highlight - gym is very well equipped and pool has stunning views. Thank you to the staff for looking after us so well during our stay.
This is such a beautiful and peaceful hotel. It’s just amazing: the view is stunning, the service is impeccable, rooms are beautifully decorated and you feel like you have the whole villa for yourself. We spend a week there and I just have to recommend it to anyone that is visiting this area of Sri Lanka.
Villa Mayurana is beautiful. The room was big and the decoration was lovely. It is located in the cinnamon hills, so we can have a beautiful view from there. Besides its location in the jungle it is not very far from the beach.
Nothing compares to the evening vibes and jamming session at the sunset! absolutely loved the people and the service! Everyone wore smiles on their faces throughout our stay and made us feel so welcomed the whole time. Loved the sea food and the prices compared to the prices were 100% reasonable! Only draw I see in this coastal beauty is the time of service! but im sure that shall be improved with time! thank you!
This Villa is not for people who want a lot of activity. However it was perfect for us. Great villa, great pool and a lovely sunset view down to the sea from the pool. The villa is set on a hilltop in a cinnamon plantation, the garden and villa have lovely views and there are many places to sit and read. This was a reading, swimming, resting ,eating and ambling kind of place. We settled in and had a true holiday, not one which required very much effort on our part, which suited us just fine. You do not feel like you are in a hotel, but rather guests in a wonderful country house; one which has a few wonderful extras including a good masseuse and a cook who made excellent curries. It was a posh and homely and rural and very very comfortable. In short it was perfect spot for us. The staff were wonderful and quietly sorted whatever we wanted. Our suite was very comfortable and spacious and well appointed. However I wish that the management would remove the pine trees ( apparently courtesy of a previous German owner) and return the garden to being a completely tropical paradise, which it is , except for the wretched pine trees. I suspect not too many other people would notice this slight imperfection.…
This cinnamon experience was booked by our hotel and it included a demonstration and talk about cinnamon followed by lunch. Our driver had a bit of difficulty locating the property, but once we found it we thought we were in heaven. If only we had stayed a night or two here! It was in a magnificent location with views to die for - the area for accommodation and surroundings were beautiful. We were welcomed with a cinnamon drink and then taken for a walk into the plantation to see how the cinnamon is grown, harvested and then stored ready for sale. This is currently not a working plantation but the information imparted was excellent. Then it was followed by an early lunch on one of the balcony areas - just the four of us - with beautiful views over the hillside. The meal consisted of bread, fish, soup, chicken and icecream - all themed with cinnamon. Excellent experience. Next time we'll stay too!…
I think we planned the perfect trip to Sri Lanka, great driver, 5 individual Hotels, Rosyth Estate, Kings Pavilion, Heritance Tea Factory, The Fortress and finally the fabulous Villa Mayurana. Set a few miles from the coast in the hills, an old planation house which is just peace and tranquillity. Butler type service, attention to detail, beautiful gardens, amazing views and you can see the sea. Pool area is a delight, comfy beds and umbrellas, hot tub too, just 4 or 5 rooms. We had the Orange Suite, large and well appointed, lovely comfy bed, all the amenities you could want, mosquito net for reassurance although we didn’t see any. Nice seating area outside, great aircon. Cinnamon tress, pineapple plants, coconut tress all in abundance, even stunning peacocks roam the place, beautiful flowers everywhere a pure delight. Fountains and water features. Staff were impeccable, friendly but not intrusive, chatty and had real pride and passion for the place. The manager who Im sorry I cant recall his name was marvellous. Food to die for and i cant impress enough how good it was. Breakfast and dinner is in open terrace overlooking the forest. Even provide aircon if needed. Breakfast was a real feast, everything fresh, local or English choices and so much delicious food, stunning freshly made pastries, huge selection of fruits, great coffee and bacon. Dinner was a joy, drinks in the Pavilion in the courtyard, get there just before sunset and walk round with your G&T, stroll to the Terrace and order from the fabulous menu. Chef was brilliant. I had the lobster thermadore and it was huge and the best ive eaten anywhere, no need for a starter. Reasonable prices and nice wine choices. Spa on site, you can book a walk round the planation, take a class. Quiet and just heaven to relax in. Would highly recommend.…
