The Nuga house, was the worst experience of my life. The owner talked to us in a very bad way, i felt unsafe & life-threatened. We booked for 2 nights through booking.com. once we arrived at the property we didn't like the place. Negative vibe! Bed sheet was dirty, used towel in the washroom, no proper check in. Since there is no phone in the room, no reception and no staff in the hotel i sent a direct message to their Instagram page to inform that i would like to check out I waited for a while but i got no response. We had to leave to find another place to stay. She came once we were in about to leave and started to shout. Since my bank account details was provided i thought they could take the fees from my account. She called me a theif. I got hurt mentally and emotionally by the nuga house, this situation was a big shock for me. I wanted to take more photos but the owner didn't allow me.

Worst experience of my life, the owner is scary not professional at all, the place was so dirty we couldn't stay even few hours, we wanted to check out immediately there is no reception no security and no phone to inform. And they charged us 100% of the amount and at the end before leaving. Please do not trust photos, i don't want anyone to experience my situation

When I travel to other countries I try to maintain a positive attitude and understand the deficiencies that hotels may have. But this hotel was the worst experience of my life. I had booked a hotel by booking.com for 3 days. When we arrived at Ahangama we did not like the place, especially where the hotel was located. But since it was too late we told the hotel owner to stay for only 1 night and cancel the remaining 2 nights. Since we are officially booking through Booking.com, we realize that if I break the promise Booking.com can charge me from my card, but that did not bother the owner at all. That's where the nightmare began... Avi, the owner we met very badly started threatening us, the police, the immigration service, and most importantly threatening us that if we did not pay the money for all three days it would be our biggest mistake in life. It threatened to turn our journey into a nightmare. For the first time, I felt life-threatening. No matter how beautiful the pictures look, the environment is nothing more important than life.

The Nuga House is a beautiful accommodation right behind Kabalana Beach. Very stylish and clean rooms make for a pleasant stay. Avi and his team including the two dogs provide a very calm and pleasant atmosphere. Yoga classes are offered several times a day and are highly recommended.

As an established yoga teacher with 3 years experience I would say this is the worst place I have teached yoga ever. It's simply a stereotypical "surf café" (or at least trying to be) with some extra space that they are using as an add on to earn money. Nothing more. The place is super noisy and this is something most people complained about when I was teaching there. The place is owned by a stereotypical Israeli family and they fit the stereotype perfectly. Rude, loud, narrow-minded, have no clue. In my first experience teaching there i wasn't paid fully due to a misunderstanding the owner had with Tom or whatever his name is, who is the owner's son in law and then gave it to me the second time I went there a few weeks later. This was a warning of the things that were to come. They never paid on time and what the teachers get here is basically the breadcrumbs or leftovers since these money hungry dingbats keep more than 50 percent of the share. When in most places it's split 50/50 for the teacher and the space. This in itself shows what kind of people they are and what they stand for. Just a wannabe surf café pretending to be cool. Most of the teachers who were teaching here were just rejects working for nickel and dime and some of them were working as waitresses in the café during my time there. Among other things it's an unprofessional and pathetic place. Also I kid you not few times I went to teach there, the police showed up for God knows what reason and they warned one of the waitresses who was working there illegally. She's was not the only one to be honest . It's a place that has a bad reputation.

I would describe this place as expensive for what you get. I found it difficult to sleep due to the lack of black out blinds. Nuga House describes itself as a nature oasis but I found it too cramped for that. The breakfast is average. I noticed they’re providing overpriced yoga lessons. But the thing that made me reduce my stay from 7 nights to 1 night was the unfriendliness of the owner - Avi. I booked my room last minute, and felt he was short on the phone. When I arrived he pretty much ignored me. The next morning when I wanted to enquire about surf lessons (this place does sell itself as surf specialist) the manager sent me to speak to Avi — I had to approach him and his mates and it was just uncomfortable and unfriendly. The place just had this vibe of cliquiness despite selling itself as a zen den and I felt like an outsider. When I said to the owner that I want to check out, instead of showing empathy that I didn’t enjoy my stay he grunted at me ‘this is not how to behave, after I gave you the room for such a price’. The price btw, was the price of a regular for a deluxe, which I had asked for as I was single occupancy - still $50. The bed was uncomfortable and there was nothing deluxe about it. I also took a room that would be empty anyway since I took it at 8pm. I explained to him the reason I am leaving is because I didn’t find him to be a nice host - and he turned around to me and said ‘you’re not a very nice guest’. He then proceeded to ridicule me when I was checking out. I don’t think Avi understands the basic principles of hospitality and I am confused as to why this place has so many good reviews. If you are looking for a nature oasis and good service — I recommend staying at the similarly priced UYANA - which is absolutely outstanding. Now these guys understand hospitality.

Response from Avi Sasson, Owner at The Nuga House
Responded 27 Oct 2021
Hi Pippa thanks for your review, we’ll take this into consideration, but before we let this review go we have some comments we would like to add incase anyone were to read your review and think it’s reflective of how we operate. First off, when you initially inquired about the room you asked us for a discount because you have a ‘travel blog’ and would be willing to share the Nuga House on it, which we would have been more than happy to discuss, but when we asked to see the blog you said you haven’t even started it yet. Secondly, if you felt your breakfast was not up to standard, this is something you should communicate with us on the spot so we can offer you something else or find out what was wrong with your food. You also mention our yoga classes being overpriced, this is completely untrue as we offer extremely competitive prices for our drop in classes, on top of that you didn’t attend a single class to know whether it is worth the whole 7$ that it is. After back and forth communication we agreed to give you the room at 50$ for the night, just because that room was not booked for the night doesn’t mean we drop our price for you or anyone. We have price standards that we hold regardless of who occupies the room. Our regular check in time is around 2pm, our staff waited up for you till 11pm to make sure you arrive and were shown to your room, so if they weren’t their warmest after working the day and waiting up for you then we apologise for this. In regards to the surf lesson, when you asked the manager she was busy in the restaurant and directed you to Avi who said he could organise it all for you, but you insisted to get the instructors number and go to meet him yourself instead. We have many good reviews because it is reflective of the services we offer, that is generally how reviews work. We apologise for the experience you had with us and we hope you found the accommodation you were looking for.

The room and facilities were great (also great shower and water pressure!), the pool and the resort were super clean and the staff was nice and helpful. The restaurant is AMAZING! Location is great, walking distance from the rock at Kabalana and quick tuk tuk ride to any surf location until Wiligama. Will definitely come back again and again to this paradise

Loved our stay at the Nuga House. The owners and the staff are so friendly and the service is on point. The rooms are super spacious, clean and lovely with its own little terrace area and the property is super super safe with the most amazing, ever on alert and friendliest ridgebacks - Sunny and Laila. the location is ideal for those who would like to surf and chill by the beach which is less than a 5 minute walk from the property, but also for those who would enjoy a quiet place to relax and unwind when the day ends. The restaurant has reasonably priced, amazing selection of food on the menu and the best Shakshuka I have had- so yum!! We will definitely be going back to this property whenever we are back to Ahangama!
