A friendly, clean and peaceful hotel away from the trodden path, but close to downtown Château Bernard and minutes away from Cognac. Easy to reach and with ample parking. The service and assistance was outstanding. A real, feel at home atmosphere. The hotel is surrounded by land and has two terraces for basking in the sun. Great for private sittings. The rooms are comfortable, they have shutters to keep away light if you want to sleep in. Clean fresh air in the morning is one of its great assets. Breakfast stops at nine which I felt was early. The food is ample for a good breakfast, including a good choice of baked goods and danish. Pre-ordered dinners are held at the dining room. Calm and peaceful, yet practical for businessmen.
We stayed one night but we had a great night (2 adults + 2 kids in a double communicating bedroom) and the pool was a good thing after long hours of driving. Arrived on a sunday, the restaurant was closed. Shame !
We stayed in the hotel in front of L'Echassier but dined here so well that this need to be said : " Compliments au Chef" This was nearly an étoile and such a GOOD SERVICE; We had a peace of veal with small Girolles and potatoes of ile d'Oleron with a delicious sauce. You can only take the menu but what a geat CHEF. Bravo
The Chaleur! The Heatwave! We were cycling around Cognac in an early heatwave and we've never been so grateful for an hotel pool! This hotel is quiet, calm and very well appointed. The chatelaine must be the most charming, welcoming and pleasant hotel professionals in all France. We ate the table d'hote each evening and the chef at L'Echassieur made the most wonderful meals. Superb cooking! This hotel, like Mary Poppins, is practically perfect in every way.
Functional hotel, new, spacious rooms, good bedding, nice green area around, friendly service, reasonably priced. There is no restaurant, but Cognac is only 15 minutes far, and there is plenty of possibility there.
This is nice little hotel situated just outside Cognac (15 - 20 mins away). Very quiet and cosy. The staff in general are very friendly and can communicate fine with limited English. This is a nice getaway from urban life. There is a river nearby (10 mins walking time) where you can take a nice walk when the weather is good.
I have stayed in this hotel several times 2-3 days each (always in April). The hotel is very nice and quiet - a bit outside city of Cognac. The staff has always been friendly and helpful (don't know about their language skills). The restaurant is excellent. Breakfast normal standard.
We've chosen this hotel because it was sufficiently close to Cognac and had a good reviews here and on booking.com. We weren't disappointed, with one small exception - our room had no air conditioning (Room 22). I suspect that other rooms have no AC as well. But first hing first - this hotel is situated in perfect spot - just outside Cognac - it took us 5 minutes or even less to get there. Hotel itself is rather old two-stories building, but it is very well kept and our room was spotless clean. Room design is a bit outdated, but it was quite different from common hotel room design, so we considered it a benefit. We had a bathroom and sink, and separate toilet. Once again, everything quite old, but spotless clean - so no complaints here. Our room had no safe box, which may be problematic for some people traveling with valuables or high amounts of money. There is also no elevator, so suitcases have to be taken upstairs and this may prove problematic for some. Lobby is clean and inviting - with nice bar and wide selection of cognacs (XO and others) - and there is even hotel's own brand of cognac. In the common area there is a closet with books and board games for those who are looking to keep themselves or their children busy. There was even book in Russian, which was quite surprising. Breakfast is served starting from 7am and it doesn't surprise with wide selection of food. BUT things served are sufficient for good morning meal. Bread is fresh and cheese and yogurts are very tasty. We didn't eat dinner here, so I cannot testify about that. There is a nice pool at his hotel and, considering the hot weather that becomes more and more common in France these days - it is nice to take a dip after long day of cognac tasting... Hotel owners were quite nice and friendly and despite the fact that I know only 2 or 3 words in French, we managed to communicate and they even helped us to make a reservation for dinner. All things considered, this hotel presents great value and if it had an AC - I would gladly give it 5 points. But in hot summer weather (we had two days with 36 degrees Celsius during our stay here) it is very difficult to sleep without AC. Otherwise, everything is OK here. P.S. I didn't try the Domain de L'Echassier XO cognac and now regret it...…
This was our first stay at this hotel because most places in town were already booked and I must say, that it perfectly suited our needs. It is a little outside of Cognac but still close enough and quite well connected to the surroundings. The owners were very friendly and helpfull and the rooms were spacious and clean. We also enjoyed a very nice dinner in the restaurant. There was not a big choice, but the meals were delicious. All in all it was a nice experience except for the breakfast, which consistet of mainly bread and spreads and was charged with 13 Euros. I would recommend to go to one of the cafes in town instead. Also once the staff turned off the rather slow WiFi before they left, which was a little inconvinient. Other than that, definitly worth staying there.
Beautiful hotel in the outskirts of Cognac. Pretty garden with nice pool. The restaurant was very good and the service given by the couple that run it was excellent. I had a car so getting there was no problem, but if you do not plan to drive it may be hard to get there.
