Stayed one night here due to its close proximity to Cragside, the National Trust property. The king room had been pleasantly refurbished and everything was clean. Staff were friendly and evening meal was of a good pub meal standard. Menu was a bit limited. Also there was no fruit/yogurt/continental option at breakfast with the cooked food being just OK. It's difficult to be too judgmental with Covid restrictions still obviously impacting service etc

Booked 2 rooms for 4 nights for me and my family to celebrate our sons 18th birthday. Arrived to check in but rooms weren’t ready as hotel short staffed ( know that’s a problem with a lot of businesses). So finally checked in at 5pm. Rooms are of a good standard with nice furnishings. Unfortunately shower was faulty and we didn’t have any tea or coffee etc. Found out in second day that rooms weren’t been serviced due to COVID. I hadn’t been advised of this until I questioned why our rooms weren’t serviced. Not sure it’s reasonable to expect guests to use same towels fir 4 nights and not have tea etc replenished. We did get one set of fresh towels after I asked. I totally understand rooms Might not be cleaned but I think guests should be advised before booking. For those on a longer stay then I think it’s only reasonable to at least be offered to have fresh towels . The cost of the rooMs weren’t adjusts to reflect the lack of servicing - which doesn’t feel fair to me That said the breakfast is legendary and they did leave a lovely card and balloons for our son. We’ve stayed before and it’s been great but just feel they got it a bit wrong this time.

Whist I appreciate previous recent reviews concerning this establishment, we found our stay to be very pleasant. We had booked two twin rooms for two nights, both of which were in the attic, one of which we asked to change as yes it was very small and dingy. We were moved to a double room on the same floor and that was much better. It was clear that the owners were away (we were told that on several occasions) as the place seemed very understaffed. That said the ladies who served us in the bar and restaurant were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant in the evening was good, especially the burger our son ordered. Please note they do not serve food on a Sunday evening (even though it states on the website food is served every night). My overall score would of been a three and a half, it was better than average but not as good as very good.

Room Tip: Avoid twin rooms as you cannot look out of window and it’s on the top floor. The rooms are noisy...

We arrived on Friday thinking we were booked for two nights. When the Lady checked us in we were told it was only one night!! Rearranged the second day with much time and difficulty. Went to check out next morning to be told we were booked into another room.!! The Breakfast was diabolical. The service was horrendous and to really cap it all off WE HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR TWO NIGHTS!!!!!
