The Abbey is set in beautiful, lush surroundings, which you have ample opportunity to take in on the drive up to the winery/hotel. After a very informative tour, we opted for the wine tasting without lunch. It was a very relaxed tasting, with no feeling of being rushed even though we were not eating lunch. The sommelier brought us four different wines, giving us the chance to savour each one in between tastings. We also bought glasses of other wines we liked the sound of (but this was entirely our own decision). We were also treated to some traditional Sicilian cheeses, meats and breads along with our wine at no extra charge. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and one that I would highly recommend.
We booked directly with this hotel many months in advance and got a great price for a lovely room during the off-season. The restaurant was open on a Tuesday evening and the dinner we had there was the best of our 2-week tour of Sicily with delicious pasta first courses and perfectly cooked meat dishes for seconds ... perfectly paired with one of their wines "Passomaggio" which we loved. The dinner was more expensive than the room, but totally worth it. The countryside around the hotel reminded us of the more quintessential/Tuscan Italy ... more than the rest of Sicily. Nicely located relatively close to Cefalu and the quaint village of Castelbuono where we were able to partake of the famous panettone and crema of pistacchio of the Fiasconaro bakery during Easter week. The hotel and restaurant were relatively empty since we were traveling during the off-season but that also meant the pool wasn't open yet. I could see this a cooler place to be in the hot summer months. We only stayed one night, but enjoyed it immensely!…
We arrived a bit later than expected from the airport and they were so accommodating, they made sure we got dinner. The hotel is charming, it is such a lovely location. The rooms are ok, there were only two of us, so we don't need a ton of space, so it was enough for us. We spent most of the time by the pool anyway, which isn't heated, but it's in direct sunlight and nice for a refreshing dip. We did the wine tour which was great, highly recommend. We also did the food and wine pairing menu for dinner (twice!) because it was such a lovely experience. All of the staff were amazing and helpful, but especially Simone. It is a very small hotel, so never very busy, which we also really loved.
Yes the location is stunning and the restaurant serves a mean dinner and wine, but the breakfast is stale, the pool unheated, the toiletries cheap and the bedding hard, which makes this place a 4* hotel at best.
Infortunately hotel informed us no evening meal available mid week - fortunately we were able to curtail our stay without penalty Also bar in hotel effectively deserted... Room was clean and restaurant food when available OK
About 90 minutes drive from Palermo Airport and about 30 minutes from Cefalu, this is a great place to get away from the crowds. We hired a car at the airport for our stay and was essential to get about. Airport transfers are available. Uncertain of the availability of local taxis. An old abbey, which has been modernised to provide comfortable air conditioned accommodation. Once there, you don't really have to leave, as there is a pool and modest gym facility on site, along with bar, restaurant and winery. Staff were very helpful (English speaking) and polite. Breakfast is normally a buffet (COVID precautions in place) with ample Continental fayre, including fruit, yoghurt, breads, cheese, ham, eggs and fruit juice. They are very accomodating in the restaurant, but if you are expecting a full English for breakfast, you may not quite get the full monty. The food here is very good. The wine (and olive oil) served is produced on site, is good quality and reasonably priced. Castelbuono is about a 15 minute drive and has a number of restaurants and gelaterie if you fancy a change. We would happily stay here again and have already recommended it to friends who would similarly want to visit Sicily to get away from it all and avoid the tourist areas too. …
Based on the fact that we couldn’t go where we really wanted ( Phuket, Thailand) and bored with staring at the same four wall for almost 6 months it was a bit of a case of “ let’s just go anywhere that will let us in”. Well, we certainly got lucky with this fabulous hotel in Sicily. Although well signposted off the main road the final couple of miles up to the Abbey were up a winding lane, well lit at night, but a bit bumpy. However most certainly worth the effort as the hotel is a beautiful oasis of calm, peace and quiet. A well thought out conversation of a lovely old building and all done to a very high standard. Our room overlooked the swimming pool and terrace and then down the hill to the Mediterranean. All very clean and comfortable and in keeping with the building. Super bathroom with bath, shower and separate loo with bidet. There is a large swimming pool and loads of sun loungers to choose from either on the sunny terrace or some great shady spots in the pretty gardens if it’s a bit too hot. One of the hIghlights for us was the food. We ate in the hotel restaurant on 3 occasions and each time was faultless. From salt cod, suckling pig, venison or their pasta dishes all were delicious, beautifully presented, always seemed to just the right amount and accompanied buy some great wines. The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about their fairy small selection of local wines but all the ones we tried were really good and incredibly good value. I cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough. Finally the other highlight was the staff who were all friendly and professional, made sure everything ran smoothly from breakfast service, bar snacks, drinks and the restaurant plus happy to give recommendations for other local restaurants or places to visit. They really were a credit to the hotel. …
The abbey is gorgeous. The fields of grapes are intoxicating. Service in the restaurant was superb. The rooms appear to be in condition. Ours was adequate in all respects. We would definitely return if we had the opportunity.
Visited with my family who’s local to do the wine tasting for lunch. Amazing tour fo the wineries by a very knowledgeable gentleman who was kind enough to answer all our questions and take us through the steps in detail. Then we sat in the dining room for tasting where you could choose the type of wines to try (biologico or biodinamico). Our sommelier Giacchino was great! Not only his english was impeccable so he could also interact with my fiancé without me translating but he also had so much knowledge of the wine and made sure we had the best time. Needless to say we bought a lot of bottles to bring back :)
Calmness and good food as well excellent own wine. Top location to be worth to visit, as couples or family! Close to Cefalù which is an incredible town! Not too far from Palermo airport, just 1,5 hour drive!
