The hotel was nice but was very disappointed that they advertise the bar is open to 11pm every day we stayed for 1 night being a Friday as we were attending a charity fundraiser in Thornbury we decided to return to the hotel for a drink at 10.30 to find the bar already closed if they stated this in there information in the rooms we wouldn't have returned so early very disappointed I did complain at checkout but don't think the young girl behind the desk was very interested in my feedback I work in hospitality and have never stayed at a hotel where you cannot get a drink after 10.30 pm
I travel a lot for business, and it was refreshing to check into a hotel that felt welcoming from the staff and feel of the place. The room was up to a high standard, food was amazing. A special thank you to the team who looked after me during my stay. Natasha Josh Grace
First time back for our ‘ Birdwatching’ couple days since the covid outbreaks. Hotel, rooms etc still very good. Staff all helpful and, friendly, 10/10. The restaurant has been remodelled since our last visit. Disappointed. Bench seating is not conducive to older folk or those with mobility problems. Had to move the tables to be able to get in or out. The menu is very restricted, although all the food was well prepared. On our last evening we spoilt ourselves with a steak. It was very nice, but, where was anything green. I was offered a rocket salad ( I don’t like rocket ), so it was steak and chips with a few tomatoes. On both evening we weren’t offered either desert or coffee, and to add insult, I had to sit and look at pictures on the walls of Marco Pierre White. We’ll probably go back but find somewhere else to eat. In conclusion, hotel = 10/10, restaurant = 2/10, overall = 5/10.…
Visited Gables as we wanted to visit several attractions in the area, but did not want to stay in Bristol. Hotel was very clean, rooms were spotless, facilities including Wi-Fi good. My wife was apprehensive when we found that the Resturant was Marcos NY Italian as she is not fond of Italian cuisine and had suffered a bad experience in a Marco’s Resturant in t.he past. However fears were ungrounded, and the menu choice was good and she found several dishes to her liking. The food was excellent, portions of a good size and service very good. We did find the breakfast experience not so good, no problem with the self service, but the cooked dishes need to be kept hotter, and the replenishing needs to be quicker. We enjoyed our whole stay at the Gables.
It's hard writing a headline for any review.. So I decided to highlight the staff first.. From the time of arrival to we departed, the staff here were very professional and caring.. Anthony, the manager, has a team around him of experienced and new people.. But you can see that the service from all is excellent.. The hotel has many rooms of various sizes and we stayed in room 304.. This is a larger space and was decorated very nicely.. Ensuite was immaculately clean . There were coffee/ tea making facilities, iron/ ironing board..hairdryer..a number of coat hinges ..table and mirror for the ladies to relax and do their hair& makeup.. So, no fault in regards to the room.. There are numerous function rooms for parties.. weddings and on this occasion, a theme night.. Bob Marley tribute act.. Great evening had by all.. We liked this hotel so much, we actually decided to book again ( luckily the room we we're in was free) so no changing rooms..and we went off to Gloucester.. To visit the city and the Cathedral.. Aprox 30 mins away .. So an ideal location in terms of visiting around the area.. Breakfast was a case of booking your slot.. That's because the seating area is in the restaurant.. So it's not a huge area, and if we all turned up together, there would be a long que.. But once in, no problem with what is available and variety.. One small problem is the large table where things like cerals, pastries, and suchlike are, it's a little personal trying to move around it at breakfast.. " Sorry." " Excuse me please " I think you get my point.. The restaurant in the evening is a Marco Pierre one.. Zoltan, the restaurant manager, is really a very professional and it clearly shows he knows his stuff in regards to hospitality..and watching him guide the young members of staff on how to do things was wonderful to observe.. Food was as one would expect and we very much enjoyed the quisine.. Staff who attended us really were very attentive but not intrusive.. Now, an unfortunate point. One that I did point out to both the restaurant manager and Anthony himself.. The bar area is close to the restaurant.. There was a very good singer with the equipment that goes with such an act..( loudspeakers & suchlike) And as good as he was, the loudness of the bar area, created an atmosphere in restaurant that unfortunately made an ambience of being in a nightclub and we couldn't chat across the table in a manner one is used too.. And both us and staff had a hard time hearing each other when ordering.. Not to say don't have music in bar, but I suggested something a little more subtle, perhaps for people to enjoy their meal.. But overall, it's a 5 from me, and we will definitely return to this hotel for more themed nights.. And for you racegoers out there, this hotel is, in my opinion, a very good place to stay for Cheltenham racecourse...…
We use to be regular at the Gables for Sunday lunch for many years, Sunday we decided that although it was now a Marco restaurant we would give the lunch a try , well all of the reviews about bad food are really not an understatement, the price is £15.95 for the roast and its as awful, quality and presentation equally bad. Such a shame as the refit is lovely and such a wasted opportunity for better things. How can it consistently get such bad reviews without it ever improving. Staff lovely.
Great location, friendly staff, Very clean, room good, Bathroom clean but dated Breakfast disappointing, good selection of breakfast items but cold plates and only warm food, staff respondent to my complaint
After realising that we were to be in the local area for much longer than expected, we decided to reduce the inconvenience and book somewhere to stay overnight. Somewhere that was dog friendly. Upon finding The Gables Hotel on-line and noting it dog friendly and not hugely expensive, we called and booked. Uncertain what to expect by making such a rushed decision, we were pleasantly surprised when arriving at the Hotel. The Hotel was attractive and well maintained. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Upon filling out the required form for keeping a dog overnight and telling the receptionist the circumstances for the stay over, she kindly stated that she would ensure there was some dog biscuits in the room. The room was lovely and clean, well-sized with a huge comfy bed. There was a big RSPCA cushion placed on the floor for the dog and a bowl of water and bowl of biscuits were waiting. We had a lovely quiet night and slept well. More importantly, the Poochie had a lovely night's sleep too and enjoyed the free bikkies! Additionally, we had an evening meal at the Hotel's restaurant. My partner had a beef lasagna and I had a burger with fries. The meal was good quality, tasty and affordable. All staff were friendly and professional - you felt you were in good hands. I would definitely like to stay at The Gables Hotel again!…
The rooms have been refurbished and we can certainly see the difference since our last visit. The bar is now an inviting and friendly space with lots of comfortable seating areas. The addition of Marcos restaurant is great with a good atmosphere and quality tasty dishes with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and efficient and very attentive. Great valentines menu, such good value. We booked a superior room which had been refurbished and was light, airy and spacious with a king sized bed. Be aware that some of the rooms have not yet been upgraded and are more compact, with double beds, but this is reflected in the price and therefore represents good value. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice, again very good value and I would definitely recommend.
The hotel staff were very pleasant. We booked a small room and it matched the description and was fine for one night. The room was clean and had all we needed. If we were to stay longer, I would have booked a larger room as ours had a double bed and we are used to a king size bed. We ate in Marco's and that was very good food.
