My wife and I spent 8 nights at the hotel following a tour of other towns and cities across Cuba and it was a fantastic spot to relax at the beach, enjoy the sun and snorkeling. There are no doubts that there are little improvements that could be made around the rooms and the complex in general but within the context of the rest of our visit to Cuba there is no doubt the hotel does a great job at ensuring guest feel welcomed, that they can relax and enjoy their holiday. The food in the restaurants was average at times but there was plenty of choice at breakfasts and the pizza / burger grill adjacent to the pool was a great option for snacks during the day. There is no doubt the staff are the real stars, no matter where you are in the hotel the staff are always very helpful. Special thanks to Lester and the team at the pool bar, Manuel at the beach bar, Carlos the waiter at breakfast and Joan, Ramon and Armando. The staff genuinely ensured hat our stay was a memorable one and would certainly be the reason to return!! I also made use of the gym whilst I was there, running machine was good and overall it was a well furnished gym. Spa treatments were available and my wife enjoyed those. WiFi was available throughout though you do have to renew your access after a certain amount of use, to be honest I was glad to be without it! Snorkeling was great and every day there was dancing and aqua aerobics by the pool. Certainly something for everyone. The one real negative at times was the mosquitos, they were a pest on a few evenings, not a surprise perhaps but just something to be aware of.

What a beautiful resort! I visited Melia Buenavista from June 7th till June 11th and I did not regret it! This adult’s only resort is the best place to relax in Cayo Santa Maria. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. There is 1 pool right in front of lobby – with a bar and poolside grill, other pool is between bungalows plus 3 different beaches. At night, the place to be is the lobby bar and patio outside lobby. Everybody gathers there in the evening for live music. This resort is small and quiet. In consequence, all dinners are in a la carte restaurant with different theme. Food was great for dinners, different choices … seafood, fish, pork, chicken and beef. Fresh vegetables and fruits every day. Drinks were good. 2 beaches have their own bars, never a moment that you have to wait for something. The beaches were beautiful. They are 3 of them. Bring your water shoes and you won’t regret it! Sunset at one of the beaches is spectacular. The staff were awesome! Always smiling, very helpful, I felt like home. They really, want you to enjoy your stay. The rooms were nice, big, clean and functional. If you are looking for a party resort, this is not the place. If you need more entertainment or louder music/dancing, the staff will happily drive you every night to neighboring hotel Melia las Dunas and bring you back later – very well-organized hotel. Will I go back and recommend this resort? In a heartbeat! If you have any questions please email me, I am frequent traveler and I will honestly answer all your questions. Martina

We recently returned to the Melia Buenavista for our second visit. The first was September 2019! The resort is just as lovely as we remembered with manicured gardens, two pools, and three beaches to choose from, who wouldn't be satisfied. The Buenavista offers large, spacious rooms ( our housekeeper Lianny everything clean daily :) with an incredible outdoor shower and huge tub to wash away the day's saltiness acquired at one of the three white sand beaches. The snorkelling here off the middle and long beaches was some of the best we've done so far in all of our travels with sightings of barracuda, lion fish, a white spotted blowfish, and even a reef shark, along with numerous schools of beautiful fish. We thought we were in the most abundant natural aquarium. Although the grounds and beaches are phenomenal, it's the staff that elevates this resort to a cut above the rest. From our pre-trip dialogue with Yamile in the booking department to our daily interactions with our great butlers Sergio and Ramon, we felt welcome and valued. Joan and Armando checked in with us often even though they buttlered in other sections. The pool bar crew (Yeri, Lester, Yoandry, Pedro and Pitti), Andres at the long beach, and our waiters Carlos, Yoan, and Yoel L kept us fed, watered and entertained. I visited the spa several times during our stay, where Elroy happily arranged my massages with Lester. He was professional and offered an array of helpful therapeutic choices. Nayy tailored his yoga class to the client's skills and requests. From the bar staff to the front desk personnel who helped us on numerous occasions, especially the last day when our flight was delayed. Everyone did their best to assist with our requests and make our stay memorable. Nightly entertainment was delivered in a small patio setting just off the gorgeous lobby bar. This intimate environment enables clients to experience the world class musicians up close and promotes mingling on an international scale. We met some wonderful friends! Although we don't go to Cuba for the food and having previously vacationed over 30 times and understanding the difficulties with supply chains, we were still very disappointed in the food and beverage quality. During our previous visit, the food was top notch with many delicious choices. This visit left us dissatisfied after many dinners over 14 days (breakfast and lunch were repetitive, but generally fine) and pondering Melia's five star rating as well as the higher vacation costs they charge. Perhaps reintroducing an international manager would help. Overall, we would recommend the Buenavista for those craving beautiful beaches, a restful, relaxed setting with low key activities, and most importantly great Cuban people who appreciate tourists visiting their island. Gracias por todo! Jim and Cindy

This is our second time at Melia Buenavista, and we were even more impressed than the first time. It is an adult only resort designated for those who want a quiet, relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the sun and sea. Whether you are up at 7 am or sleep till noon, you are guaranteed a shady spot under the palapas. Unlike all other resorts we have visited, there is no need to reserve your favorite spot by placing your towel on a lounge chair before the sun rises! Most of the time you will not have anyone right next to you on either side anyway. This is not a resort for those who constantly need to be entertained and animated, although they do offer dance classes by the pool, spa, yoga, & meditation. There’s no swim up bar like in most resorts. The rooms are spacious, well kept, clean. And if you don’t just love the outdoor (Balinese) shower, then that’s on you. The two local restaurants offer a solid meal (gourmets might not agree), but you can always hitch a ride on the local shuttle to the buffet at the next door Melia resort. Also, great pizza and hamburgers are always available till 11PM at the pool grill if you prefer that. For nightlife, you have the choice of watching the sunset in the peace and quiet of your own terrace or dancing the night away to Cuban rhythms at the Lobby Bar. Can’t say enough about the great staff at Buenavista, always ready to please with a smile. The list would be too long to name them all, but we will name the ones we interacted with all the time: our butlers Sergio and Ramon, our chambermaid Yanelys, and the pool bar pizza master Pedro (El Jeffe). Then there’s Lester at the pool bar (…he's quick with a joke, or to light up your smoke….), Lady, Joset and Juan Carlos at the Lobby Bar, and Pedro de la Torre to escort you to your lounge chair on the big beach. And last, but not least, bartender Andres at the big beach, tirelessly working in the heat, braving the elements to deliver your drinks even to the farthest corner of the long beach (and that is a very long walk in the midday sun!). And did we mention all the great new friends we made there? Thank you, all! Finally, it would be unfair to leave out one of Buenavista’s hidden gems which is inexplicably under-advertised on travel sites and brochures - the nude beach on the far end of the long beach. If you are into the “no tans” lifestyle, Melia Buenavista in Cayo Santa Maria should be in your sights! Thank you all for a terrific time! Hasta pronto!

This is already our second visit to Melia Buenavista (MBV) in 2022. We loved it so much the first time, we simply turned around and went back. Many of the people you meet at MBV are also repeat customers. It is simply a superb place to go if you are looking for a tranquil holiday in a pristinely clean environment. MBV is located away from other resorts and offers three unblemished beaches to enjoy. The resort itself is lovely, but it is the staff who make the experience. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed, embraced and nurtured. Every morning at breakfast we were met by either Daymi or Lili, our butlers, who organized and took care of our daily needs and activities. They were constantly available from early morning until late evening to make certain we didn’t want for anything. A stroll to the pool had you greeted by Lester and Yery at the pool bar. Their generosity of spirit, kindness and empathy was shared with each and everyone of us. They were both interested in us and interesting to speak with. There were no requests too big or too small. Livan couldn’t have been kinder and more accommodating as he took care of us at the pool and quiet beach - always making certain we were happy. Pedro had a constant smile for us at the snack bar where he prepared our frequent pizzas. There are many activities to participate in - yoga, dance lessons, aquafit, and short lectures/tastings. While all instructors were wonderful, Navy was exceptional as he shared his zest for life, enthusiasm and professionalism. Many a night, he brought us all to the dance floor where we practiced the dance steps we’d learned during the day. We ate most of our meals at the Los Caribe’s restaurant as it featured local and Latin foods that we enjoy. We always sat in the sections Ailan and Yobani were assigned to given their warmth and kindness. Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without recognizing Eduardo who made certain we always had water and coffee in our room and offered to bring a variety of other beverages at the same time. Maria, our housekeeper, added extra little touches so that we had fresh flowers and towel art to look forward to as we returned to our room. As you can see reading this, we only have positive memories OLG the resort, however, it is the staff who enriched our memories and will bring us back.

I don't want to be absolute, but I think that my fiancee and I have found the best sun and beach hotel in Cuba, when speaking of elegance, personalized service and client expectations fulfillment. It has a very cozy architecture from the lobby to the restaurants. This hotel is unique, for sure: it is the only one in this country where doesn't matter the direction in which the wind is blowing, there are three segments of beaches which you can choose to enjoy and swimming. They are just amazing. The rooms are quite nice and precisely located. It's decoration is very "Meliá", fresh, sober and just tailor-made. This characteristic is all-around this installation, it perspires "Melia" and I find it fascinating. I can affirm that this hotel has, by far, the best service! The staff there is excellent. Thank you so much to Joel, Yoan and Armando, our butlers. The food at the restaurants is good, assuming there are some issues right now, it is really good. There is a 24h snack-bar at pool area that worth a million. The beverages and drinks show the best of Cuban rums and cocktails. The bartenders are machines, applause for them. This is not an economic hotel, not for locals either for foreign people, but we are coming back because of yes. I recommend it 100 %. Thank you to all Meliá Buena Vista staff.

To preface this review I've spent a lot of time in Cayo Santa Maria but as my usual hotel (Melia Cayo Santa Maria) was closed for repairs I opted to stay at Buenavista this time because some of my friends were now working at Buenavista . I was not dissapointed. The hotel is Beautiful, its quiet and relaxing the dance classes are fun. I told them I didn't need / want a butler so i can't say much about that aspect. but i can say that all the butlers were more then wiling to help me out here and there when needed. For me the snack bar by the pool was the best for food. Piti, Pedro El flaco & el Niño Daniel are wonderful. I hate pizza I don't eat it in Canada. But their pizzas and hotdogs are amazing here. Think I had one almost every day. The a la carte restaurants are good the service is exceptional the food is a cuban version of italian, peruvian, Espanol etc so just dont expect it to be the same as home and youll be fine, In Cuba always pick the fish or the pork option stay away from the steak. The soups in particular every day were excellent. some of the food was excellent and some was good, Again no one goes to a all inclusive in Cuba for the food. If you want good food make friends with some cubans and go to their houses or go off resort and go to a real cuban restaurant. In my opinion the hotels should stop trying to cater to tourists and the restaurants should cook proper traditional cuban food instead of trying to mimic italian. thank you Marlon, Alain, Norge, Pedro, Yanisleidy, Kirenia, Yoel & Yasledy and all the chefs and anyone elses names I may have forgotten. Bars, there are 4 bars here. a pool bar, 2 different beach bars and the 24 hr lobby bar. For me the pool bar wins for the day time Yery, Yoandry & Lester you guys are all amazing, kind and fun and the drinks are fantastic. its a good place for games, conversations & comradery with other guests and staff alike and they play music. Beach Bar is amazing Andres is fantastic, the view and the breeze is wonderful. Sadly the sand fleas loved me a little to much so i had to avoid the beaches as much as possible. Sunset Beach Bar: Manuel is wonderful, there is a nice deck area at the bar for shade and some coffee tables and seats. At sunset there is a live musician playing and they give out champagne. just don't forget your bug spray the mosquitos are insane. Lobby Bar: Best coffee, expresso, nightly live music the musicians are all amazingly talented. this bar has the best selection of alcohol and top shelf rum (Santiago de Cuba 11 yr & Santiago de Cuba 8yr). Yoseet, Juan Carlos, Micha, Gorge Luis, Jose, Ramon, Luis, Leislady, & Wuatemar are all amazingly wonderful, attentive, kind and caring. They day I was leaving Wuatemar went out of his way to get me a couple of sandwiches and some bottles of water for the bus to the airport, which I didn't even ask for. so thank you, your service standards are top notch. Entertainment Team: These guys do it all: yoga, pilates, merengue lessons, salsa lessons, water aerobics, music, DJ & dancing, Rum history & tasting, spanish lessons. The classes are all fun and easy to follow. Arel, Felipito :) , Nayibi, Alex, Navy, Marin, Darbel you are all outstanding there are no words to describe how amazingly special & how big all your hearts are thanks for being you and adding me to the team. If I had to sum it up in one word I would have to pick "exceptional". The hotel itself is beautiful, the beaches are spectacular, the rooms are wonderful the views amazing and the very best part of the hotel is the staff each and everyone one of them are no less then phenomenal. the service is quick, attentive, friendly & humble. For those who don't know Cuba as intimately as I do the staff here all work 10-12 hour days or longer and have a 1.5-3 hour commute each way to their homes. Yet each and everyone of them will 100% always greet you with a warm kind smile or a hug and go out of their way to help you in any way that they can whether its in their area of work or not. It breaks my heart to see tourists treat them without thought, care or respect as if they were put there just to serve them and that they are less then us in some way. The staff all work extremely hard and are always friendly attentive and caring they deserve our respect and kindness in return. A simple please and thank you isn't that hard.
