Villa Park Sun Island Resort is a favorite for its serene and picturesque location, offering stunning views and clean beaches. Guests have lauded the resort's luxurious amenities, noting the diverse activities and attentive service that enhance their stay. While the cleanliness and space of the rooms receive high marks, a few guests suggest they could benefit from modern updates.
The vibrant atmosphere, complete with live music and themed nights, is a hit, although it may be a bit lively for those seeking tranquility. However, some travelers caution about the hidden charges that may affect the overall value of their stay.

Detailed Reviews
We were so lucky to have the chance to spend our honeymoon at Sun Island & we enjoyed every single second of our stay. Our trip was all inclusive (well worth it) and we stayed in a garden villa and It was spotless, having been cleaned twice per day. It was lovely and modern too. Shoutout to the lovely young man cleaning room 565, we are so sorry that we did not catch your name. You went above & beyond every single day and nothing was a problem! Thank you!!
We hired bikes every day that we were away and it was such a convenient and reasonably priced way to get around such a large island. The island is absolutely beautiful. It took our breath away every single day & night. Even though the resort was fully booked, you were almost always the only ones on the beach during the day. It is so private, quiet & tranquil. Absolute heaven.
We got to know Rahim at the main bar really well. His customer service was exceptional & he went above and beyond for us to make sure we never had an empty glass for too long. We loved talking to him about all of the different animals we could find during our stay!
We also booked a romantic dinner on the beach (which we would highly recommend) it did come at an additional cost outside of our all inclusive but it was so worth it and the food was out of this world. Vijay looked after us that night and he was just so so lovely and made the evening so special for us. Thank you Vijay!!
If you have time during your stay here, you should definitely pay a visit to the eyemazy shop and get photographs taken of your iris. The results are amazing & you have a very unique product to take home with you. Make sure to follow @eyemazymaldives on Instagram!
A HUGE, huge shoutout to Rauf in the main restaurant. Rauf, you made our honeymoon so memorable and your attention to detail was excellent. You had our drinks on the table before we had even sat down. Your memory is mind blowing!!
As for the food in the restaurant - we never had a single bad meal. The restaurant caters to so many different dietary requirements and allergens so there was always peace of mind.
Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard on the daily. Sun island, you were incredible! We most definitely will come back. ♥️

We recently stayed in the resort and cannot speak highly enough about the staff, the facilities, the food and the beautiful island. The island is located with a short domestic 30min flight from Male airport, and the staff in the arrivals hall guide you very easily through the process.
The rooms were equipped with all the necessities and more, each located within a few steps to the turquoise sea.
We went as a couple and it was a truly magical experience. This is a very family and children friendly resort, with so many activities to keep adults and kids entertained. aside from the sand and sea, the island has several bars with music and entertainment throughout the day or late into the night. We went on an All-Inclusive basis and the drinks menu and options were fantastic. I would recommend to try the ginebra or goodnight cocktails :-)
We had the pleasure of experiencing both the water villas and beach villas. Whilst both options were amazing, of course the water villas were a truly difference experience. The staff on the island offered us an opportunity to upgrade for 3 nights at a very competitive rate, and we are glad we did that. during check-in, feel free to ask, im sure if they have availability, they would be happy to help.
The Island also has a small farm with chickens, ducks, rabbits and other animals for guests and children to visit. Every evening, there is reef shark and mantarray feeding, which is very popular with the guests.
The island also offers a number of water sports and excursions. we did the sunset fishing and the big game snorkelling. Whatever you catch in the sunset fishing, you get to eat for dinner. The chef cooked our fish perfectly! however, i would strongly recommend the big game snorkelling trip...its about 4 hours and costs $138 per person, and we got to swim with seat turtles, whale shark (incredible!!!) and giant manta rays. I will never forget this experience.
finally, the most important reason we loved this trip and return to this island, is for the staff. They are extremely hospitable, accommodating and genuinely care for their guests. A special thanks to Mr Faiz, the manager at the resort, who was extremely professional and more than accommodating to our every request. He made the experience that much more wonderful and even came to say good bye as we departed the island on our short boat ride to the airport.
we look forward to returning for our 3rd trip in a year later in 2021. if you're undecided which island to choose, you will not get better than Sun Island Resort and Spa.

Arrived here 3 couples, not too sure of what to expect. Some comments about the staff being rude was always in my mind, I was not sure how we will be treated. However apart from the very long journey, as soon as we landed on Sun Island, we were welcomed by staff that had smile on their faces. We were cautious as we thought this may just be a welcome trick. However as days past I admired the honesty and the dedication of the staff.
Our waiter Praveen, the Chef Mado the beach guy Mamoon, the bar guy Suresh and everyone else in the hotel were excellent on the way they treat the hotel guests. Regardless of anything that may feel you bad, The chef will always put a smile on our faces.
Our room guy Zakir always made us feel as if we were at our own homes.
The surroundings of the resort are excellent, this place is like a little piece from heaven.
The welcome drinks we were offered were superb, the food, the drinks, we feel everyone can find something to enjoy.
The resort manager should be thankful to his staff, because regardless of the beauty of the resort or hotel you visit what makes a place really stay in your mind is the way you are treated.
Beautiful sea, excellent beach, excellent activities. If you are planning to come to this place and have doubts, put your mind at rest. You will have a once in a life time holiday.
However there is one downside, to this beautiful place. The activities and food offered outside your package are damn expensive. 360 dollars for 14 photos is damn unacceptable.. Water sports are much cheaper in European countries, food is much cheaper in other countries like Italy, France or Spain. Just dont bother doing any water sports or other activities and you should be just fine..
Still here and very sad that we will be leaving in2 days..

We stayed due our honeymoon at Sun Island Resort & Spa.
It was totally enjoyable since we arrived there, we had a very good feeling staying there.
The first greeting was friendly, easy and the check-in went fast, relaxed and good informed.
Hafssa helped us a lot, was there when we needed something, got us all the information we asked for and was always gentle. This made our stay much more pleasant.
We had a Private Beach Bungalow with a private Pool and 5 meters to the clearblue sea.
The room was big, modern and everything you needed was in there.
Our roomboy cleaned the room twice! a day, wich is very uncommon nowadays.
This has to be pointed out. Previn is doing a great job, we have travelled so many different countries, seen so many different hotels, but he is really remarkable. You have the feeling, that he is working 24/7 and there if you need him. The room was always 100% on point.
The food was good and there is a lot of stuff you can choose. There are also some different restaurants you can choose, but they are not included in the All Inclusive booking. (should be changed, maybe as an alternative All Inclusive Plus? )
Everyone has always their same table, which is very comfortable. The same waiter every day, which was Afeef. There was no time when he was unfriendly, or stressed, which we really liked. He is doing a great job as well.
Activities: there are so many different things to do, on such a small island. Not to forget, the different Watersports acitivities you can choose from. Musalla is funny and has always good ideas and will help you to find the right activities. In my opinion, he is very important for this part of the island.
It is a small island, with a lot of rooms and people, but you never have the feeling, that there are more than 10 people at the same time at one place.
The Beach is almost every time empty, and you can enjoy this clearblue wonderful water on your own.
The Hotel and the Island are clearly to recommend, especially all of your employees are doing a great job and you always feel very warm welcomed and relaxed.

We visited Sun Island Resort and Spa in October 2020. The island is beautiful with crystal clear blue water and white, powder sandy beaches. We had a really lovely, relaxing holiday. It is a well maintained resort with excellent service and very friendly staff. We stayed both in a beach villa and then in an overwater bungalow. Both accommodations are lovely, with comfortable beds, air conditioning, mini bar and your own sun lounger which you can move right to the beach. Bathroom and shower are outside of the beach bungalow and inside in the water villa. The resort has 6 restaurants, however only 2 were opened at the time of our visit, the Maaniya buffet style restaurant (All inclusive food), and the Al Pontile, Italian restaurant (not included in Ali package, you can use your Ali drinks, when ordering food, though) . The rest was closed due to the pandemic and low occupancy on the island. Special thanks for Wafir, our main waiter in Maaniya restaurant. He is amazing, super friendly, a very hard working man 🙏👏✌️✌️ Also thanks to the chefs, to Hassan and Farouk, to making our breakfast on spot every morning and serving us with a smile and good spirit at lunch and dinner. BIG thanks to the main chef who is amazing. These guys are very well organised, the food is fresh and delicious every day with lots of choices. They are doing a great job, especially in these difficult times. They are always wearing they masks and following procedures to maintain a good hygiene.
The main bar is close to the pool and to the beach with sun loungers and straw umbrellas. The bartenders and waitstaff are very attentive and they are bringing your drinks straight to your lounger. Special shout out to the main bar staff: to Alim for giving us the best service and serving us so kindly, to Sachin and Anil, and to all bartenders for making the best cocktails 👌(Passion drop sooo delicious). Well done guys 👏👏
I also need to mention the island’s Araamu Spa, which is located in a beautiful surroundings, where we had an amazing romantic couple’s massage.
Overall a very relaxing and peaceful holiday, in a beautiful environment. The nature itself is unbeatable. We enjoyed every moment and would come back anytime.

First things first: 3 stars of 5 because the beach cleaning should be improved. You send a guy every day to collect corals but plastic /old shoes and beer cans remain. And they are noticeable please make an effort the nature feeds you guys.
Second point: if you go to Maldives for the first time and for less than 10 days you should probably choose another period because the probability of clouds rains and winds are higher and you will be probably disappointed : best photoes require sunny weather. Sunsets are less impressive when clouds are present. And Manta rays which come to the Italian restaurant in the evening do not like stormy weather. In any case the water is warm and comfortable you will admire it.
Now about the hotel itself :get ready for a long transfer from MLE (3 hours) but it is worth it. The island is the biggest resort in Maldives and for those who like to walk it is a great choice.
Beware of their all inclusive package. It is highly overpriced and disappointing because their best premium cocktails are not included. Save your money take the FB package and allocate the difference as a separate budget for your drinks. This way you will be able to comfortably try their best cocktails. I suggest Meikunu bar the guy whose name is Tara is really great in his job and his Drama Queen cocktail (off menu 26 USD TTC- the most expensive I have seen there) is something you should try. In general cocktail price varies from 11 to 19 usd.
Hotel staff is very friendly I really suggest you tip them maybe except the situation when you pay for the consumption because 10% service is included but when you go for buffet it is different.
That was our second visit in this hotel and we were very satisfied. This time we tried sunset beach villa. Really nice room meanwhile for those who likes exploring reefs and snorkeling superior beach villas can be a better choice. Room service is great and I would like to mention the guy in charge of ours : Limon he was doing a great job.
P. S. They sell snorkeling trips to see turtles mantas and whale sharks. Waste of money. The animals are deep under water so prefer diving if you can. And with some luck you can meet the same animals except whale shark while snorkeling at their home reef. They will be much closer and it is free :)

We stay in the Deluxe Beach Villa (room 133). Great buffet but almost Asian food and not many options for kids. The Resort had many activities available. We loved the bikes but it would be great if bicycles were a complimentary. The whale shark trip was a disappointing we almost feel they didnt even get a effort so we could actualy see somenthing. We only saw turtles when we especify that we only care about the whales so we spend a lot of time with the turtles and than we didnt have time to look for whales.
Mostly friendly staff but only when they see money up front, otherwise we wouldn't have
a clean table to seat.
We went all inclusive and they say the water were free but actualy the only free water was the glass bottles that they refill daily. The plastic ones are not free and they charge us for that even when we complaining on the front desk about it, very sad. We recomend that they seal the glass water bottles so we could feel more safe about it.
We went to The Zero restaurante to have the experience with the garden but the cook that went with us it only took a minute to get the leaves and than come back to the table. It was very desapointing and expensive. Is a very nice place to take fotos but the food doesnt worth the money.
Farck did a very good job cleaning the room and making a very good surprise when we enter the room with a flower decoration.
We love Eva from the bar so gentle and pleasent.

My boyfriend and I stayed here as our last stop home from a long trip to New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand and Singapore so we booked it last minute. We found it was full of people who are into quantity, not quantity. We were Disappointed with the ‘premium’ options for example - we booked a lobster dinner and the lobster was frozen and chewy. To the restaurant credit - the staff only charged us for one so we were happy about that. We looked at the wine list and it’s truly a scam - we decided to spend one evening putting all the white wines into vivino and found that most were all worth 10 euro and they just seem to increase at random. They are all worth around 10 Euro ( aside from a few very expensive ones like dim perignon for I think around 1.8k USD. Even for this wine, this is absolutely obscene pricing. This place is ideal for families who need to keep their children happy with lots of food at many beaches and activities but who do not care if their neighbor is a total creep who flies his drone over you as you sunbathe by the beach outside your beachside house. I didn’t hate the place but it was not what I had expected from the existing reviews. We did find that the staff were super nice and always tried their best and that if you’re happy to eat pizza at the Italian restaurant then you will be ok. Anything more premium, the resort falls short

+1
Four of us (2 couples) travelled from London to Sun Island resort for 15 nights commencing 7 Feb. This was our third visit to the island. I have to say each visit of ours in time surpassed the previous visit. Most of the villas have been refurbished. This resort is perfect, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the villas fronting the beach, the variety of the swimming areas for confident swimmers to non-swimmers, snorkelling off the jetty, and the sheer cosmopolitan variety of food. We went full board as we do not drink alcohol. In the rooms a litre of water bottle is provided per person, similarly at the restaurant, there is plentiful of water at the table. We were very impressed with the food in the restaurant, it catered for all tastes, from European, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern and Indian ( with varieties of dishes) , plentiful of salads, range of desserts and fruits galore. The stations are duplicated so there is not much queueing .We were fortunate to indulge in mangoes and papayas. In addition the head chef Santhanu and chef Nandakumara treated us to grilled red snappers one evening to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary and our 3rd visit to the island. I do not think we were ever bored with the food. The restaurant Greeters Sabita, Jyoti were a pleasure to talk to and have a banter with. To get around there is a very efficient buggy system run by very courteous and efficient team and we used it often to get to our favourite swimming areas or to return to our villas from the lobby. The trips, the spa are excellent but expensive but then this is Maldives. The only gripe we had was that on our previous trips we indulged in Coconuts everyday but this time we skipped the coconuts (8$ each). Be aware to get to this island (unless you can find a direct flight to Male) involves 2 international flights, 1 local flight (20 minutes) and a short fast boat ride (10 minutes). We are already planning our return trip to this paradise in 2025.

We stayed here in a water bungalow on the all inclusive basis for one week over the New Year period for what was supposed to be our honeymoon. Sadly it ruined our honeymoon experience, it wasn’t the romantic getaway we thought the Maldives would offer.
Our water bungalow was lovely, very spacious and clean, and our room attendant was friendly and polite, our waiter was also very helpful, polite and friendly, unfortunately that’s as far as the positives go.
The reception staff don’t have a clue what is going on, four times I had to ask the same question to the staff, they had to amend our final bill 3 times as there were charges on there that were not ours, and in the space of 15 minutes, the same girl acknowledged me as though she had never seen me before!
As we were in a water bungalow, we were ‘confined’ to one restaurant unless we wanted to pay an additional charge for the other restaurants, which when you have already paid a premium for a water bungalow AND the all inclusive package, is a joke. The restaurant manager was very rude, unless you were a returning guest, he never made eye contact with us and didn’t greet us when we arrived for breakfast/lunch/dinner.
We had to pay an additional charge of $75 per person for the New Year’s Eve gala dinner -$75 for cold food and to be shoved behind a bush with our phones torch light resting on a glass as a means to actually see the cold food!
The island itself is beautiful, it really is a paradise, and the rooms are fabulous with the grounds kept clean and tidy - the biggest downside of it is the staff, rude, incompetent and completely clueless. I left my comments with my contact details on our last day, I have also emailed the General Manager since we have returned, but I have heard nothing from them whatsoever .....
If you want an exotic honeymoon avoid at all costs!
