Stayed here with my family on a one-day visit back in May 2018 to attend a christening. The hotel is part of a high-quality chain and offered everything one would expect. It is at the end of Kalamata beach, with direct access to the sea, the rooms are nicely decorated and the service impecable. We very much enjoyed it - probably more than any other hotel in this - not so sure if I like it so much-city.
We had a great time here. It was very quiet and we often had the pool to ourselves. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast. Hotel bar is very expensive. The bed was so comfortable - best sleep in a hotel I've every had. The hotel is some distance from town (so you're not getting bar traffic in the middle of the night) but there is a regular bus service that stops outside the hotel.
Other than the extremely friendly and accommodating staff this hotel has nothing to offer. Food is mediocre at best. Rooms are very run down with absolutely no amenities. For 150 euros a night this hotel is an absolute rip off. Thank you to Stavros the manager and George the waiter for making the stay more pleasant:
First i'll start with the positive: the location. The only hotel in kalamata that is directly on the beach - no road to cross to access the water. Now everything else. Facilities: this was once a lovely, modern hotel. That must have been 2 decades ago. The room, which was spacious (we paid for a one bedroom suite), had paint peeling off the walls above where my children slept. The hallways were littered with loose floor tiles that would rattle as you walked by. The stairs had sharp edges from where the marble had cracked away. Cleanliness - below average. See in the pictures a hair that was on the wall of our bathroom from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. Service: Poor, very poor. There was only one guy who made any sort of effort to accommodate normal requests (Antoni at the restaurant). When i asked one day for a carafe of water, i was told to get up and get water myself from the buffet. In general it was made very clear via actions that if we were locals (rather than expat greeks), we would have been treated better. For example: on the first day we were aggressively accosted by the waiter on the beach to remove a glass we had brought down. Fair enough: they don't want the glass breaking. Oddly enough though, he had just brought the local greek gentleman sitting next to us a bucket of ice to place his glass bottle that he had brought with him to the beach. Wonder why? The hotel managers did not care really. They offered words without action and made it abundantly clear that we were not important. They acknowledged that the condition of the hotel is poor and that it is due for a refresh. At one point Stratis (one of the managers) told me that we were lucky to have such a good view from the room (which we paid for). Next time we'll stay at Elite or HorizonBlu. DO NOT GO.…
Great four star hotel. Good food, accommodating staff, great location!!! Will definitely be back. Some improvements in the rooms would be advisable. It was difficult to get warm water, it was either too cold or too hot. Cleaning was satisfactory. Close to water spots faculties and paragliding center.
So, my wife and me were looking for a nice and affordable place in order to spend abt 3-4 nights together with our three(3) children, aged 2, 5 & 7 years old. Over the years we have been very satisfied witht he Grecotel Hotels, so we decided to get a better look at this hotel, located just at the edge of Kalamata city in Mesinia. Very near Athens, only a couple of hrs by car in comfortable roads. We managed to find a good deal during the end of July 2021 (25-29/7), and booked the room arnd 5 days before (we were lucky it was not fully booked). For a family such as ours, the hotel offers as a first choice the family room, which comprises of a small hall, a big bathroom and an average sized bedroom, with a double bed, bunk beds for the 2 older children and a small park-bed for the 3rd. Suggest you pick a room situated at the ground floor, and not higher, since you have direct access to the garden / pool / etc. The pool is average-large sized, and the hotel offers you towels and sunbeds. Same for the beach which is literally 20 meters away from the pool. Like my wife said, it is like going to a lux camping place. Hotel offers nice breakfast buffet, lunch buffet for children only, and dinner buffet for all, if you choose the semi-inclusive packet. In general, the food is delicious and offers a wide variety of flavors (foods and sweets). In general, it is a relaxing experience, and i recomend it especially when going for vacation with children (has some child activities organized during noon time, when the adults can nap while their kids are cared for). For couples only, my personal opinion is that you would get a little annoyed if you happen to book dates and hotel is full with families gaving children, as it is not always quiet and relaxing at the pool etc... Many thanks for a wonderful stay at Kalamata, and looking forward to coming backa gain sometime.…
Amazing place. In our way back from and wandering in the maneland we had a stay in Grecotel. So clean following the covid rules and the staff was always there to help. The breakfast was delivious including big variety of products Rooms were amazing and on the same floor as we were a big group!Much appreciate We totally recommend the place and we will definitely come back to stay longer
This hotel lives up to its name, Filoxenia ("love of guests"). They do everything to keep the guests happy under some very difficult Covid-imposed conditions. All the staff are incredibly hard working but always smiley - under their masks ;-) - and very friendly. The hotel itself needs a little bit of TLC, though our room on the top floor was freshly painted and very spacious. The view from the balcony was stunning, overlooking the beautiful tropical garden and the sea. The beach area was lovely, though the beach itself (and the sea) was quite stoney so very difficult to get in and out of the sea. The sea would also get quite rough in the afternoon so we would usually move to the pool. The pool area was also very nice, though the pool was generally taken over by kids splashing around and enjoying themselves.. This is a very family oriented hotel and it was full of Greek families with young children, so if you are a couple looking for some tranquility and R&R, perhaps this might not be the best choice for you. i just wished they had at least one section of the pool cordoned off and reserved for adults only but that was not the case. The food was OK, nothing exceptional but more than adequate for a buffet style service; we loved the salad bar most. Breakfast and dinner times were a tad chaotic and often we had to wait for a table as it was so busy whichever time we booked it for (despite their 'booking system' to which nobody seemed to adhere to). There were also queues for the buffet due to the distancing measures put in place and the fact that there were only 2 people at the buffet station trying to serve everyone. However, having our meals al fresco under the olive trees in such beautiful surroundings more than compensated for it and even the screaming kids at neighbouring tables did not spoil it for us. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily go back. It was really a very good VFM and a lovely holiday.…
We have chosen the family suite, impressed by the photos in the hotel's website, but these few photos have nothing to do with reality. Attached you will find photos of what to expect in case you still chose to travel and stay in a family suite of the hotel. NOTHING IN THE ROOM OR IN THE FACILITY IS SANITIZED AS IT SHOULD BE. On top of that, the customer service was the worst we have experienced as travelers. The staff behaves impolitely and is not aware of their job. "Grecotel Filoxenia Kalamata" is definitely not a hotel worthy of the brand GRECOTEL HOTELS AND RESORTS and represents the opposite of the word "filoxenia" which means hospitality in Greek.
