This hostel is a nightmare. Looking nothing like on the picture: on the picture is the visible proper bathroom - at the actual place, not a bathroom, just a toilet with a shower head aiming at toilet lit. Very old furniture and hostel bedding and towels clothes - not having the courage to use it. Musty bad smell all over the place, dirty or improperly cleaned kitchen. When I saw an old flip flop negligently chucked under a table, reminding me forgotten belonging from a previous client - I have been told the flip flop is new and I can use it. owner is like the greatest joke on its own. Very aggressive, intimidating, shouting treating. No way you can agree with him on anything. The man is very greedy, charge you for every little thing. One day the use of the internet 2 euros and so on. We didn't feel safe and decided to leave the accommodation withing 20 minutes after our arrival. When we were leaving and walking the stairs down, I was terrified that the man is going to push me down from the stairs as he was shouting at us and running behind with a tomato-red face. I will recommend this accommodation only to an enemy. The quality of accommodation is not adequate for the asked price per night at all. I guarantee you that you can find something so much better as we did after all. I would recommend a council inspection to come to see the place. I have never been accommodated in the worst place. Please, AVOID this place if you do not wish to test your fear factor.

When my friend and I got to the place the owner tried to overcharged us he wanted us to pay €80 instead of €70 and we showed him the booking.com amount and he was arguing with us saying it was wrong then he went on his computer to check and was trying to find a way to overcharge us, when he couldn't find anything then said It's for the internet trying to make an excuse for over charging us and I said that's €2 not €10 he was rude and trying to take advantage of us girls, my friend and I were a bit in shock with his attitude, Then he quickly showed us the room my Friend and I were Still in shock and when we went to the bedroom we smelt.something weird we opened the cupboard doors and it was disgusting very dirty my friend went to the toilet to try to have a shower and there was no shower only a shower hose-head so u r suppose to stand in front of the toilet basin to shower?? The place itself was dirty when we told him we didnt want to stay there and wanted our refund because there is no shower and there is a yucky smell coming from the cupboard he said we were not meant to open that cupboard and he starting getting aggressive and yelling i told him not to raise his voice and we wanted our money back and he kept yelling at us, we took some pictures of the place as proof and he got more aggressive I had to tell him if he continued been aggressive we would call the police, we were so scared he was going to do something to us, he said he was going to charge us for the day and 1 day internet and only gave us a refund difference for the other day we were meant to say in, even we were Not happy with it coz we didn't stay there but we just wanted to get out of there! We were so scared and it ruined our whole day. My experience of this hostel is truly unique out of the 100's of hostels, that I have stayed in, in the world. Ridiculous over the top rules by a super suspicious owner, that always seems to suspect the worst of everybody. A truly terrible experience!! Be warned.....

Stavros Hostel is a homely little place, with a certain quirky charm, and, in my experience, an extremely welcoming and helpful owner. Be sure, this is a hostel (though a small, quiet one), so don't come expecting a hotel. But if you're used to hostel accommodation (and narrow stairs!) then it's a great place to stay. The location is excellent, about five minutes from the bus station, and a few steps from the heart of the old town - though it is a bit hard to find at first, so do make sure you have a map/Google maps. I had a single room on the top floor of the first building, which, though small, was cute and cosy. There was a nice little balcony outside, and the price was excellent - certainly far cheaper than anything else available nearby. This is the major benefit of Stavros Hostel - there's a lack of proper backpacker accommodation in this part of Greece, so it's great to have this central option, from which it would be easy to make day trips (to Sparta, the Mani, etc.). Kalamata itself is a pleasant town, with some great cheap food and a nice atmosphere, although there aren't many major tourist attractions (other than a really good museum very close to the hostel). Stavros himself certainly works very hard indeed to make his guests feel welcome, and I had a great experience staying here. I note some other very negative reviews, and can only say that, as usual with hyperbolic hostile reviews, you have to assume that there's another, very different side to the story somewhere!

Relaxing stay in the center of Kalamata. Stavros the owner is extremely friendly and helpful. The hostel has a lovely terrace to chill, have a drink and chat. It's also the cheapest accommodation of the city.

We ended up at stavros because there wasn't any other hostel in Kalamata. We checked on hostel world if there were rooms available and the prices. All rooms were available. Wo got to the address but nobody was there so we called the number, the owner said he was at his other hostel so we had to walk there with all of our luggage. We asked for the two bedroom and he walked us in. He asked us to pay so we were about to when told us it was 34 even though on the internet it said 30. So we told him that and he really said that that's not his price. So I had to show him in his computer that 30 € was the real price. He argued and argued and we had to wait for like an hour while he was talking to himself trying to change the price. The entire time he was calling us "darling " and "my dear" and talked to us as if we were dumb. We ended up getting room for 30 but it's worth no more then 15. My friend took a shower - no hot water, he didn't even tell us how to turn it on. A lady from across the hall told us the next day. The Second Morning er Heard a Knock in The door at 7 am. He answered and started yelling at me that we left the hot water on and destroyed sth in the kitchen. Which is not true. We didn't use the kitchen or the bathroom at all the day before because we left early and got back late and had a bathroom upstairs that we went to the toilette in. So I told him that we didn't do any of that and he started yelling that who else would have been that. So I told him again that it wasn't us and went to back to bed but of course I couldn't sleep again. So when I got up an hour later or so and wanted to take a shower after all I saw that the box with the switch for the hot water was locked as well as the kitchen and even the bathroom( there wasn't English in there, I checked ) !!! So we couldn't take a shower at all. Something like that has never happened to me before and I'm still in shock that a hostel owner acted like that to us. If there is ath wrong with his pipes or whatever that the hot water can only be on for like 10 minutes he shouldn't blame the guest for it and definitely shouldn't wake them up blaming and yelling at them. DONT STAY AT THIS HOSTEL! ANYTHING IS BETTER !

We ended up in Stavros Hostel because we didn't find another place to sleep. Me and my boyfriend stayed in a 2 person room and we paid 16 euro each (waaaay too much). My boyfriend went to shower and after that he called me from the bathroom telling me there's no hot water. I went to the owner, told him that there was no hot water and then he toggled 2 switches and said to wait 5 minutes. After 20 mins, there was no hot water. I told him again there's no hot water and he toggled 2 other switches from the main electric panel. After another wait, my boyfriend came angry out of the shower after he showered with cold water. We started arguing with the owner, as we paid 16 euro and we don't have hot water. He asked us "but what? are you made of sugar? why take hot showers on hot weather? take a cold shower" and then he said "wait, now there is hot water, see?". It was my turn to shower and I put my shampoo on, turned on the water, it was hot enough to clean my body a couple of minutes but after that I had to wash my hair with COLD water, as it stopped pouring hot water. We had such a bad experience there. I don't recommend going there. Also you should know you have to pay extra for using the kitchen (which is insane if you pay 16 euro). Don't go there.
