I booked a family trip for myself and my two children to travel in February 2022 to stay in one of the igloo accommodations. After arriving in Europe from the US, my children were denied entry at the border because their passports only had 2 months of validity beyond the end of our trip rather than the 3 that are apparently required. I acknowledge that travelers must be sure they are aware of such requirements but I did extensive research on entry requirements, Covid testing and vaccine requirements, etc, and had not seen this at any point (and a long story why the passports got that close to their validity point). But in any case, we were sent back to the US by border police and so were not able to reach the resort. The resort's refund policy states that "in case of any border issue" there would be a full refund. I realize they likely intended this to cover Covid-related items (though other reviews suggest they don't even honor that), they were totally unwilling to show any empathy whatsoever for what became a disaster of a trip for me an my children. They would not refund a single euro from the thousands that I had paid. I could have understood having to suffer some kind of reasonable cancellation penalty under the circumstances but to not be given any concession at all was just incredible. Stay away unless you're absolutely sure you'll get there. Any issues in arriving and you're out of luck!…
Fantastic resort, beautiful igloos, delicious meals. Loved the husky safari and reindeer sled rides. We say incredible aroma borealis shows. The hospitality was amazing and the location was perfect. Even the sauna after a cold day was awesome. I highly recommend this place.
The highlight was the cute glass igloos – they are small, but clean and comfortable enough for the night. If staying longer, you may want to reserve one of the larger cabins with a shower. A special experience was seeing five reindeer wandering freely through the resort and into the adjacent forest. The dining room is beautiful and dinner that evening was included in our reservation price. Options were limited and the food was not great, but edible (do not recommend the potato-leek soup – not a potato to be found and quite watery). We did not see the lights from the igloo (a light cloud-cover that night), but did see them while on a Northern Lights Riders tour that evening. We were also awakened in the morning by a beautiful sunrise. Breakfast was also included – again, sufficient but nothing special. It was definitely a wonderful, worthwhile experience to sleep in the glass igloo for one night - that alone would have been a 5-star rating and highly recommended. The food and mediocre service from the staff was the reason for the one-star deduction - not a reason to avoid the resort, just realistic expectations.…
We had a trip planned for March with our two kids. When we booked the trip I made sure that in case of Covid 19 restrictions changes, the hotel had a FULL refund policy in place. Their policy on their website cited that “ the hotel will reimburse 100% of the stay for ANY Covid restrictions or ANY flight cancellation preventing customer to come. Unfortunately, we were unable to board the plane because of new Covid restrictions in Finland. When I contacted the hotel to get a refund, the refuse to issue a refund saying that it was not a covid restrictions but a requirement!!! Nevertheless to say, Finnair did not allow on the plane because of Covid entry restrictions in Finland. After many attempts to reason with them, they are still refusing to reimburse us and decided to keep all our money, $ 7,000 total. I don’t know what to do at this point. So, please, be careful with this resort and try to book with someone else. They are clearly more concerned about money than customer service. Very disappointed!!!…
My husband and I stayed in a glass igloo for 4 nights in March 2022. This was a postponed trip for 2 years due to the global pandemic. Our experience here was amazing! The staff was very friendly, especially our waitress, Miriam. The igloo was exactly as we had thought it would be, warm, cozy and such a unique experience. The bathhouse was clean and well taken care of, also a very short walk from the igloos. During our stay, we were fortunate to have 2 wonderful evenings with the most vibrant auroras ever! It was truly awe inspiring. The highlight of our trip!! This resort has an aurora alert system that goes off when auroras are present. It was such a cool experience to have the alert go off one night at dinner and the entire resturant ran outside to see! It should be noted that the alert system is also in the igloos as well. For having to wait over 2 years to visit, Kakslauttanen was a dream come true.…
We planned this trip to celebrate a milestone. We stayed in a large log cabin perfect for 4 people with a spectacular view, fireplace, and sauna. The resort's customer service was excellent; all the staff was courteous, kind, and accomodating. One of us arrived on a different flight, it was easy to reschedule the airport pickup. The resort offers many activities, which filled our vacation with lovely experiences. The cabin northern lights alarm rang when these were visible. Out of five nights, we had two nights with dancing lights in the sky; the other three were out of luck because were cloudy. Some highlights were the reindeer posing for the picture and the surrounding silence and darkness away from the resort. We enjoyed looking for a nice clear spot within walking distance from the cabin to see the magnificent northern lights. There is a building complex with a gallery and a planetarium; their restaurant and a brewery were under construction. Breakfast and dinner were included with delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. We stayed at the resort from March 13 to 18.…
We were here on our honeymoon. A perfect place in the Kelo Igloo. Good food and good experience. Excellent services by the staff. Nothing around but snow, trees and reindeer. Absolutely perfect! We suggest this experience to everybody who likes the feeling of the High North
we spent 5 nights in the glass igloo and were able to see the northern lights for 3 nights. that was a unique experience. We did a sleigh ride with huskies and one with reindeer and loved it. The breakfast buffet was rich and the dinner we liked it too. All in all it was not a cheap trip BUT a really great and unforgettable time
We stayed at this resort in March 22 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had 3 nights in a small log cabin (which we thought was very spacious) and 1 night in a glass igloo. Both accommodations were excellent, very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The staff at the resort were very polite and helpful. The food was excellent with choices to suit all tastes. We did three excursions, the husky safari, reindeer safari and the snow mobile safari, each one was brilliant and well run by the guides who were friendly and knowledgeable. There were a few areas of the resort that were closed but that was understandable due to the last 2 years of the covid situation. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and would recommend the resort. We also got to see the lights which was an added bonus.…
Stunning resort. My boyfriend and I stayed in a small igloo in March and it really was an amazing experience. We weren’t lucky enough to see the Northern Lights but we did have some clear nights where we could see the stars. If you’re staying for more than one night in an igloo you will need to book some activities because once you’ve been on a walk around the resort once you’ve seen it all and there isn’t much else to do. We did the reindeer safari, huski safari and snowmobile safari and had a great time on all of them. The staff were lovely! The only complaint would be that we arrived and our igloo hasn’t been cleaned and changed over for us from the previous guests so they moved us to another igloo and the temperature control was broken so it was way too hot which meant they moved us again. Once this situation was sorted we had a great trip.…
