Hotel in a beautiful location to see the northern lights. Hotel with a beautiful and clean room in a spectacular position to see a Lapland landscape. A good restaurant and a good breakfast. The staff of the restaurant is good, but the staff of reception should be more kind. For 4 stars hotel we expected more servicies. (e.g. a shuttle to reach the village center) and more competent staff for the activities. Good experience in Lapland.

We have nothing but positive things to say about this fantastic place. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect with great views and close to the ski lift. It only takes 30 minutes to walk down to the town, and if you prefer not to walk, getting a taxi is easy. We highly recommend the reindeer and dog sled tours, as well as a visit to the huttop and sauna. It was truly an unforgettable experience that we will remember for a long time.

We would definitely come back to this hotel again. We booked a 4-day package including 3 morning excursions: Snowmobile, Reindeer Farm and sleigh ride, and Husky experience and one evening Aurora hunting. We had booked the Aurora Glass Cabin. Everything was excellent, the reception staff, restaurant staff and all the guides. We had set menu with 2 mains to choose from. The food was exceptional and beautifully presented. The breakfast buffet was incredibly good with a huge variety covering all tastes. The cabin was quite small - but we knew that beforehand, but perfect for a 4 night stay. We we’re lucky to be able to see the northern lights, which of course can never be guaranteed. A magical winter wonderland

What a fantastic hotel! The staff were amazing and so friendly, a special thank you to the lovely barmaid (with blond/blue hair) who put up with me trying to learn a new Finnish word each day! The food was delicious! We stayed in a glass cabin, they’re all north facing so we were lucky enough to see the northern lights from our bed! They woke me up at 2am!!! We booked through Santas Lapland (I’ve done a separate review for them!) and we would stay here again any time! The view from the hotel is just breathtaking! There’s a handy restaurant and souvenir shop just a few steps away and the ski and toboggan slopes are in your doorstep! Really beautiful hotel with everything you need for an amazing stay!

If you’ve booked this hotel expecting a 5 star experience you may be disappointed . Upon arrival the location of the hotel is pretty special with great views over the town. We were immediately taken to our room which in fairness was ready on arrival. We stayed in one of the glass cabins as a family of 4 and I was extremely disappointed! The room is tiny with no real room to unpack. The bathroom is a small wet room shower only so no hot baths for the kids. Plus of course the whole floor floods. Our tv wasn’t working and the room does get pretty cold (this may be due to the glass roof). When you arrive the staff explain there are no guarantees of seeing the Northern lights which of course isn’t fully explained when you book the room type. I would 100% book a different room type at this hotel it did kind of tarnish our whole stay The staff are good and the food decent only comment would be sometimes we were waiting for things on the buffet to be topped up. The bar area is very small, only room for 2 families so having a room you can chill in definitely helps. I’m not sure there are better hotels as we went down into the town and didn’t see any that stood out. Book the right room type and I’m sure you’ll have a much better experience than we have. The rest of the trips and the in resort reps were brilliant. Just a shame we didn’t get better advice from our Santa Claus trips rep on the room!

The Star Arctic Hotel is located in a magical place. The view is incredible. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the restaurant is good. We had half board and breakfast buffet is yummy and the diners are great. Both with enough choice. We stayed in one of the glass roof cabins. It is not big, but cosy and functional. It took as a while to figure out the heating (floor heating as well as glass heating so you can see through the glass roof). Good bed and nice shower. Enough space for all your gear. The location of our cabin was perfect, due north for a good sight line for the Northern Lights. And lots of privacy. Please be aware that all the cabins and accommodation are detached so you have to put on your coat to walk a short distance to the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. And would love to stay there again.

Cabins look amazing, however we didn’t stay here overnight. But we visited twice for hot chocolate & full breakfast. Amazing place, great views and great breakfast full of Finnish flavors (fishes, berries, sweets etc.). Amazing for seeing sunrise/sunset.

We stayed in one of the glass cabins in December 2022. Booked via Santa’s Lapland. Short transfer time from Ivalo airport and it was wonderful to have to stop the coach to let reindeers cross the road! The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially when getting all of our snow suit gear. Lots of choice for food. Alcohol expensive but perhaps to be expected. The glass cabin was lovely and warm. I was a little surprised that’s there were no heated towel rails to dry wet clothes, however, laying them on the heated floor was fine and worked a charm. We really enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again if the opportunity came up.

Before even arrival, contacted hotel via email and they were so helpful and very quick to respond with any questions, including transport from Rovaniemi Airport to Saariselka. Our bus had been delayed and had issues getting there on the first day, the hotel rang us to make sure we were alright and reserved a table much later at the restaurant to ensure we didn't miss out. We were given all the dates and times of our activities included, and also overalls, boots, gloves. We arranged on the last day to be dropped of for the bus back to Rovaniemi from one of our activities and they even packed up a tea for us as we were unable to attend for our last night. Reception staff and staff at the restaurants were super friendly and spoke very good English, nothing was ever too much trouble. Had an issue with the hair dryer not working and they unsure it was replaced for when it was required. There is a ski bus from the hotel that will take you to they key skiing spots and also to the only shop in Saariselka. There is a nice little lobby area with seats near a fire that is lovely to sirlt and have a drink by. There is a sauna but we did not use it, the Finnish etiquette is to go in naked or with a towel. Sauna was open 10am-10pm. Hotel had shower gel, shampoo and conditioner which great when wanting to travel light and not take loads of toiletries. Breakfast was a continental either some traditional Finnish food, which was absolutely amazing. There was typical scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, hashbrown. Cold meats and cheeses. Different types of bread, cakes and pastries. Fruit and salad. Granola, seeds, cereals, berries and dried fruit. Only negative was that we found the room to be too hot, despite it dropping to -23 at night. The heating wouldn't go any lower than 20c and found we were waking up with a dry throat every morning so had to leave a window slightly open.

We completely enjoyed our stay at the Star Arctic! We booked the package for 4 nights and had plenty to do each day. The staff were amazing, starting with the front desk who checked us in and helped organize extra activities, the tour guides had a lot of information to share, and even the drivers were knowledgeable and chatty about life in Lapland. The room was lovely, we had the view room with the beds upstairs (and yes, the stairs are steep). The room was big with a sofa seating area and coffee fixings. We enjoyed all of the activities and appreciated the snowsuit and shoes provided by the hotel. The temperature was -10F to 20F during our stay and I can honestly say we never felt cold, well except late at night while Aurora hunting but doable with hand warmers that we brought with us. We wore our regular winter clothes with layers and put the provided snow suit over that. Warm all the way. We had daily tours provided by the hotel and had time for afternoon outings. We went cross country skiing, visited a sauna with cold plunge, and shopped in nearby Saariselkä. The food was tasty and local Finnish style with lots of fish, reindeer dishes, and a variety of options. We had the fixed menu for dinner and would have liked to have chosen from the al a carte menu at least once but we didn’t ask. A wonderful epic holiday that I will never forget!
