The village is like nothing I've seen before, especially the amount of snow cover. It's location is quiet, off the main road, 25 min drive from Ivalo airport. The cabins are quite private, quiet, warm, and the bed was very comfortable for us. There is a computer information pad on the wall, but it didn't work. I liked having a cabin with the bedroom facing the trees (row 1-20). There are tea and coffee making facilities, a pay for mini fridge, and a hair dryer! The heated roof over the bed allows you to watch the night sky, stars or snow, and if lucky, the lights. No one can really see inside below chest height.
The bathroom is a good size, the hot water will run out if you prolong your shower. There is no shower enclosure, so water ends up everywhere, but there is a long handled squeegee to wipe away the excess. The basin drains to the floor, a little unusual for me, but I didn't get wet feet. The bar and restaurant have a relaxed feel, there was plenty to eat, dinners were very good. We enjoyed all our planned activities of snow showing to see the lights, snow mobiling, ice fishing, reindeer sled ride, husky driving/sledding, and spoilt ourselves with a limousine ride in search of the lights. We missed one activity searching for the lights by the lake, but other guests told us we didn't miss anything except snow and cold. Wi-Fi is patchy in the cabin but good in the restaurant. Lights are never guaranteed (but we were lucky to see the most amazing display!). It's cold, I mean really cold, but they provide good waterproof warm overalls, boots, socks, balaclavas, gloves/mittens (you need to wear warm long underwear). The guides and staff are friendly and helpful. There were 4 of us traveling; one booked direct, one through an agent and by emailing with NLV were able to i Emails were answered promptly. Highly recommended.

Our family (2 adults 2 children) stayed at Northern Light Village for 2 nights. It was one of the best family holiday we ever had!
One of my daughter was not feeling very well so I called the hotel and they managed to send the hotel car to picked us up from the bus stop with relatively short notice and when our bus arrived, the hotel car was already there waiting for us.
I also recommend to use their luggage transfer service ( again need to be booked and will incurred a fee ) as we have quite a few pieces of luggages and we didn’t need to pull our luggages through the snow to our cabin using this service.
The hotel staffs are all very helpful and thoughtful. During our stay , Rebecca from the front desk helped us a lot - from answering all questions about tours, arranging hotel car to pick us up from the bus stop, coming to our cabin to help us with our luggages at 6:30am , and she even packed us 4 breakfast bags to be eaten on the road as the hotel breakfast didn’t start before our departure ... how thoughtful was that ?!
Of course the place itself was magical! The cabins has high ceilings and HUGE glass and we can laid in our bed while waiting to see the northern light. The design of the cabin is simple but very cozy and comfortable. The walk between the cabins within the property is breathtakingly beautiful. There was not a lot of light pollution within the property so it was easy to see the Northern Light inside the cabin. We managed to see the light on the second night of our stay.
We also joined the Husky safari organised by the hotel. Our guide Henry was fantastic! He checked on us quite a few times during the safari as he could see that we were quite nervous and he has been very patient with us to help us and answer all our questions. It is obvious that he love the dogs , and the dogs are well trained.
Please note especially if you like long hot shower - the water system in the cabin can only supply 10mins of hot water and will need 30 mins to recharge afterwards!
Breakfast and Dinner are included in our package. The restaurant was very beautiful and comfortable and food were pretty good with great selection.
We have stayed in other hotels / properties to try to see Northern lights but we love Northern Light village the most. Will definitely go back!

Our stay in the Northern Lights Village was nothing short of a dream. The property is vast and has some very cozy cabins that allow for a wonderful aurora light experience if you are lucky. We stayed for 2 full nights on full board which meant we had access to their delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. Yes they are expensive, but once you get there and experience what they have to offer, you will understand that all good things come at a price. The front office staff are very polite and helpful. I would recommend also trying their experiences…we did the husky ride and the snow shoeing excursion which were both fantastic because they have a stunning gorgeous property to explore which is suitable for such activities. They also have a nice sauna with a hot tub and ice pool for those who want the complete sauna experience.
My only neutral comment would be on the very serious bar tender who makes great drinks, but seems almost unhappy to be doing what he does. A little smile or emotion while talking to guests wouldn’t hurt, I suppose. But otherwise, a wonderful place to stay where the stay is an experience by itself :)

We stayed at the Northern Lights Village for 3 nights in December with a group of 7 adults, 1 child and 1 infant and stayed in 3 separate cabins.

Before booking the accommodation, I did a thorough check on whether the Northern Lights Village will be suitable for us considering the steep price of the cabin. Happy to say that I made the best decision to stay here!

We contacted the hotel to arrange the airport transfer and we were greeted at the arrival hall upon exiting the customs. Upon reaching the reception, the check-in process was done quickly and smoothly.

As our cabin was located facing the forest, it was quite a distant to travel there. Thankfully, there was a member of the staff on stand-by to drive us to our cabin (12 - 14) with all our luggage.

The cabin itself was spacious, with one main bed and one sofabed. While the room did not have any television, we were happy to just relax and see the night sky. We were very lucky to witness the northern lights on our second AND third night! The cabin is always warm, which makes it very cozy and comfortable.

The accommodation came with daily breakfast and dinner. While i agree the choices are limited, it still suffice and was quite delicious.

We participated in a few activities: Husky Safari, Reindeer Ride and Aurora Camp by the Lake. On the day of our arrival, the team loan us overalls that we can keep throughout our stay and also to be used during the activities. They even have sizes for a 9year old and a 1year old.

The husky safari was an amazing experience that even the infant can participate, while the reindeer ride was very relaxing and calming. The aurora camp by the lake was interesting and very cold, and unfortunately we did not get to see the northern lights. The husky safari is highly recommended.

Overall, it was an unforgettable stay for our family and we hope that one day we can return to do it all again. Thank you to all the team at Northern Lights Village for making it a dream to stay there!

We have just come back from the Northern Lights Village. We had a really good time. The cabin was cosy and warm. All the windows face north so if the northern lights come you can see them from your bed. Unfortunately for us it was cloudy the whole time we were there so we didn't see them. The trips were good but expensive. My husband really enjoyed his trip on a snowmobile. The people at the hotel were lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them. You can ask for more coffee or tea for the room. Our computer tablet in the room wasn't working for the first couple of days and because of this we didn't know that you have to ask for your room to be cleaned. There is not a great deal to do at the hotel unless you book things. Probably two activities a day is good but expensive. The food was ok. A choice of meat, fish or vegetarian. It is all buffet style and not always hot. On the whole we had an amazing time.

Arriving in Saariselka after a 4 hour bus trip from Rovaniemi, it was a little dark and snowy. As soon as we entered the reception/meals etc in the same building it was like a large log cabin. We took our bags to our designated private cabin in the snow, lit up alolng the way by lights. So excited with the cabins scattered throughout the property and how magical the trees and snow everywhere. We had cabin no 7 with a front porch. Each cabin has a bar fridge with a loung and bed with half the roof being glass, looking out the sky and trees. Private bathroom. Stunning!! Dinner was great, breakfast was good, not outstanding but everything you need. A short walk to a large general store with everything you may need, supermarket/alcohol etc. The negative is we only had one night and would love to have stayed at least another night. Must stay and it was like fairyland.

The accommodation is in individual cabins with heated glass roofs and adequate general heating. We didn't see the northern lights from here but there was always a possibility. There is an i-pad system in the rooms which is supposed to alert us if there was a sighting but it was out of order for most of the time and was an annoyance the rest of the time as the light from it reflected directly from the angled roof in to our eyes when in bed. I recommend covering it with a towel.
The food was fine; always buffet style.
We were provided with an itinerary for our booked activities but we got this too late and missed the first workshop; they booked us into another one when we has spare time though. Husky sledding was fun - I was surprised that we had to drive the sleds ourselves. Clothing was provided for all activities although our local ski-shop had prepared us well before we went, with layers of thermal gear.
The Aurora Zone were our travel agents and everything booked through them was top quality; we had private transfer from the airport, baggage portage to the cabin door, although I believe you could borrow a sledge if you wanted to do it all yourself.
If you get the option, choose a period with little or no moonlight as it is so bright that it would obscure the northern lights.

The north facing glass cabins work really well, and an alarm wakes you if aurora ia detected. Magic electric system quickly clears the windows of snow if any has fallen. We saw some level of Aurora on 3 out of 4 nights so pretty good going but its never guaranteed. Food is great, half board recommended (possibly unless you're vegan...a lot of the variety is meat and fish based). Staff friendly, helpful, and impressively multilingual.

One suggestion, would be good if the rooms featured full size black overblanket or cover as we happened to be there on a full moon, so the crisp white sheets reflect off the windows in the moonlight and confuse the view. Another suggestion...aurora alarm could also be available on an app allowing users to set their own volume or opt out for a night, and would also allow guests to receive alarms say if they are in the dining room. If allowed it would also be nice to be able to switch off the movement-triggered lights outside each cabin, as during an aurora display people are walking about outside setting off lights which isnt great for aurora photography. Finally the wall tablet is quite bright in the dark and reflects off the windows ... Some kind of cover flap could be good. Minor enhancements though, this place is great.

I visited Northern light village with my family for New Year celwbrations. We have fallen in love with this property. Its so beautiful, you feel like you are in a winter fairytale and the staff is very warm and welcoming. We took 3 days experience pack and saw Aurora/Northern lights on 2 Aurora hunting experiences which was incredible specially since we saw dancing Aurora on one of the nights and 2nd day on a cloudy night which are both rare. The all inclusive 3 nights package is very well planned with enough rest time and time to enjoy hearty meals. I specially loved the local delicacies they served on 1st Jan. We will surely visit again and recommend the property to everyone coming to Lapland!

Tips:
1. Book atleast for 2 nights for maximizing chances of seeing Northern lights
2. All inclusive full board packages are well planned with enough rest time between experiences and time to enjoy hearty meal at their restaurant.
3. Even if you dont have a camera, pay attention to their photography session as you can take pictures of Aurora through your mobile phone as well with the tricks they share.
4. If you are travelling with kids, its best to give them rest on days which have -17 temp or below as the experince sites are much colder than resort.

The Northern Lights Village was above all our expectations. Sleeping under the dark night sky in the warm aurora cabin in the middle of a snowy forest is something you will never forget! The restaurant and the reception are easily accessible from each cabin. The food (buffet) is delicious and prices for extra beverages (water, coffee & tea are complementary) are fair for Finland. We went for the 2h husky safari at 9 am which was the absolute highlight of our stay. Driving the sleigh into the glowing morning sun with 6 fast huskies in front of you is a once in a life time experience. We can highly recommend this activity. All the equipment (very warm overalls, shoes and gloves) can be borrowed for free. Also the sauna and the ice pool are a must! The whole staff is very professional and always very positive. We hope we’ll back soon.

Hi. We didn't see any cabin larger than ours. Our cabin could easily accommodate 3 people since there was a sofa but I don't think it would be really comfortable for 4 or 5. But you may ask the sales department (email), since they are super helpful and will answer promptly. At any rate, focus on the activities and the ski center! You won't spend your day in the cabin!

We saw a ski bus in the parking lot of Northern Lights Village, but I can't provide any details because we didn't take it. We did, however, cross-country ski over to the downhill ski area and had lunch there. The Alpine skiing looked to be rather limited, but we enjoyed the restaurant very much.
