We booked the romantic three day package. We loved all of the exercusions/tours and the guides for those were great (particularly Dan/Tajn) who took us for a heated sleigh ride/romantic dinner and Northern Lights viewing. He was a lot of fun, very conversational, and took amazing photos! We really loved the location of our room (the back row of cabins which meant we didn't have any other cabins in blocking our view), but the hotel staff was less than friendly, particularly the front desk staff. There was also not great communication regarding some of our planned activities. The first day we were there the shower in our room flooded the entire bathroom. Despite being told the issue was fixed, it continued to happen throughout our stay. Additionally, there was no communication regarding the sauna/massage. We showed up for our sauna appointment and nobody was there to direct us. It also would have been very nice to have drinking water provided in this area to prevent dehydration. My husband had to walk back to the front desk to figure out that our massage appointment was actually at another hotel altogether and we needed to return to reception to be driven there. The morning we left for the airport we were quite rushed as the wrong time was printed on our itinerary. The taxi driver told us we had to leave immediately while we were finishing our breakfast. Finally, while the romantic dinner was very special, the food served at the buffet was mediocre at best (not something we expected when paying as much as we did). Bottom line, if you get a great viewing of the Northern Lights, this is well worth it. If you get unlucky and do not, you'll be wasting your money.

Enthusiasm across the board to be able to spend 3 nights in this beautiful hotel. The Bongalows' heated windows allowed the Northern Lights to be seen from the bed. The hotel staff notified you when the Northern Lights were visible - great Ihee and great service! The events offered by the hotel itself (husky dog sled rides, aurora hunting, reindeer express) were absolutely great. Super organized; the employees were very friendly, helpful and highly motivated; and that even though the season is coming to an end - compliments! Since the events are all organized by the hotel itself, they all started directly at the hotel. The organization was perfect! Everything went great with the transfer from the airport and back - great service!

We had an amazing holiday at the Northern Lights Village Saariselkä from 31/03 to 06/04 (6 nights). It was a special birthday gift for my husband’s big birthday! We were busy every day and had a very different kind of holiday from anything we’ve had before! It was a very special holiday indeed! When we first arrived there, the temperature was around -7 deg. C at night and there was deep snow everywhere. It was so beautiful! The resort provided sub-zero overalls, shoes and even mittens, so you can definitely do activities at very cold temperatures. We saw the Northern Lights on two different nights through their ‘Aurora hunting by heated sledge’ and ‘Aurora hunting by snowmobile’ activities. Because the day light gets longer at the beginning of April, these two activities started at 9pm and 9.30pm. We managed to convince our 8 year old to have an afternoon nap on both days, so that she could stay awake beyond midnight on both nights! We were very lucky and saw lots of Northern Lights while we were there. We also had another chance to see them from the Northern Lights Village, but we were too lazy to get up in the middle of the night to look at them again. If you really want to see the Northern Lights, you should stay there a few days and also do at least one of their aurora hunting at night activities. They take you to a north facing hill top which has less light pollution from the village. The husky safari was an interesting experience too. We also tried 25mins reindeer express, meeting Santa Claus, cross country skiing and snowshoeing while we were there. Everything was done very well and the instructors were very friendly there! 25mins reindeer express is sufficient and I don’t think you need more than that. We did a 5 km Husky ride, but it is maybe worth doing the 10km one to get a bit longer on the experience! My daughter is 8 years old and she was very excited to find the real Santa there! We met 2 of the elves there and they were very entertaining too. My daughter loved Tami! We liked cross country skiing and did it twice too. Once you have done the instructor led course, you can borrow the gear again to use during your stay. The package we had included a spa activity in the Holiday Club hotel. The pool and facilities were very clean and orderly while we were there. We also went to the nearby ski resort and did a beginner’s Alpine skiing course, which we found harder than cross country skiing and also very expensive for a 2 hours course! If you read the reviews from others, you will possibly get an idea that the food is okay, but not necessarily amazing. But you should expect that you are going there for the wonderful experience in Lapland, not for the restaurant. I guess the place will be very busy in December time and the experience will be different then. Our friends who recommended us to visit Lapland did suggest us to go at a different time, such as February or March. This is a good suggestion unless your sole purpose in visiting Lapland is to meet Santa before Christmas. I think March will be less cold, less busy and a good balance between day light and night time. Overall, the experience we had in the Northern Lights Village Saariselkä exceeded our expectations! It made us feel we should book this type of cold weather experience holiday again in the future!

We had a fantastic four night stay in an aurora cabin from March 18-22. We did the Romantic Aurora Escape 3 night package and added on an extra night. This was by far our favorite hotel out of our 13 night stay in Finland! The excellent service started even before we arrived. I reached out to request one of the cabins along the tree line so that our view wouldn't be blocked by other cabins. Not only were they happy to oblige (unlike another hotel we stayed at later that charged us extra for this same request), but also told us they would give us one of their newly renovated cabins. They were also very flexible when it came to arranging the private airport transfers that were included in our package. We were coming up from the snowhotel via a private tour and heading to a hotel in Inari after. Since we didn't need the arrival transfer, they offered to provide the full transfer to Inari on our departure. Our cabin was beautiful. Love the heated floors! It was perfect for the two of us. The staff at the hotel were wonderful and couldn't be more helpful. They provided a free aurora alert service and we were able to pay 5 EUR per bag to have someone help get our bags to our room vs. using the sledge to bring them ourselves. Our booking included full board and the breakfasts and dinner buffets were really good. No complaints at all. The bar was also open really late...I assume to accommodate late night aurora hunting! The package we booked included the following activities: 2.5 hour Private Aurora Snowshoe - This was scheduled for the night we arrived. It was snowing all day and we had a long trip up from Rovaniemi with a stop at the amethyst mine. We were pretty tired and the thought of the snowshoe tour in the weather sounded exhausting. However, we ended up really enjoying it! The weather was a little better at night and the hike was very relaxing. Good to stretch our legs out too after being in the car all day. Our guide was great and we loved sitting around the fire in the kota drinking warm berry juice and toasting marshmallows. 2.5 Hour Reindeer Express - I expected a big sled pulled by a team of reindeer but this was actually done with small 2 person traditional sledges. There were maybe 8 couples on our tour. The ride through the woods was very peaceful and relaxing. After we learned a lot about the reindeer and had a chance to feed them. Definitely do not miss this. Private Aurora Hunting by Heated Sledge and 3 Course Dinner - This was the main reason I booked this package. We road in a heated sledge pulled by a snowmobile to a kota where a guide cooked us a private dinner on the fire. We had delicious soup, roast reindeer and Lappish squeaky cheese along with some sparkling wine. After, we went back out in the sledge to some more remote areas to hunt for the lights and we got our first glimpse of them on this trip. We saw a beautiful show and our guide took some great pictures of us. The entire night was wonderful! 4 Hour Snowmobile - If the aurora hunting and dinner was the reason why I booked the package, this is the thing that almost made me not book it. I was terrified of going out on the snowmobile, fearing being left behind or crashing (I have an anxiety disorder). I made my husband drive. I have nothing bad to say about the guides or anything. It was well run and everyone was friendly and helpful! I just do not enjoy the snowmobiling. It was really, really long and bumpy. After about an hour I was ready to turn back and by four hours, I was way past done and sore from the bumpiness of it. We had some trouble toward the latter end when my husband got a little snowblind and we went off track twice and tipped over once. We were fine and laughed it off and the guides were quick to help us and make sure we were ok. All the other couples had a blast though, so I'm definitely in the minority. My husband did enjoy it for the most part. Massage and Private Sauna/Jacuzzi - This was scheduled after the snowmobiling which was a blessing as I was so sore. We had one of the igloo saunas to ourselves with a jacuzzi outside and then were taken into town for an hour massage. It was just what we needed. On top of what was included in the package, we booked a 2 hour husky safari for our last day. This was our fourth time attempting dog sledding having done it in Norway, Greenland and New York previously, all of which were completely different experiences and none of which were what I imagined dog sledding would be like. We decided to give it another try in Finland and we were so glad we did! This time we took turns mushing while the other person road. The dogs were happy and eager to run, following the trail and the other teams. It was so much fun and the best dog sledding experience we've had! Overall, we loved our stay and definitely want to come back. We also had two more nights of northern lights from our cabin windows and it was magical. I can't recommend this place enough!

I can hardly find any words to describe my experience in Northern Lights Village (NLV) in Saariselkä. My wife and I visited this resort on mid March as our final destination of our journey to Finland and Lapland and what a magical ending it was! To begin with, the location of NLV is unique. Although it is situated within a short distance of just 5min walk from Saariselkä, you have the opportunity to admire the aurora (if you are lucky) from your cabin, without any excessive light pollution, and enjoy the activities that are offered from the resort in the snowy forest of the surrounding area. You may easily get even to the Ski Center which is also in a walking distance (approx. 20min). The ski bus won't be really useful since it passes from NLV only at 10:55 and 15:00. You can take it though from a bus stop in the village. The resort is perfectly organized. The main building hosts the reception, where there is always someone full of kindness to help you on anything you might need (many thanks to you all - sorry I can't recall your names), and the super cozy lounge area where you can relax, have your breakfast or dinner. The meals are delicious, perfectly served with plenty of food, while the place offers a great view outside! The Safari House, which is the meeting place for all the activities, is located close to the main building, where you may ask for thermal/waterproof suits, mittens, boots and balaclavas, that you may keep during your stay, if you don't have your own. Concerning the activities, we had a 5km Husky ride (book for the 10km if you have time), a 2-hour Cross-country Skiing lesson and of course Aurora Hunting (Aurora Camp on the Border). The activities are very well organized and the guides are super friendly and helpful. Many many thanks to Linda for her patience during the Cross-country Skiing lesson and to Tamara for the amazing photos that she took us under the northern lights! I can't easily describe the feeling of riding a sleigh with these lovely huskies or skiing in an amazing snowy forest. Definitely book for these activities!!! The Aurora Huntings on the other hand are not trully huntings. They have a certain destination and if you are lucky you will see the northern lights there or on the way. Aurora Camps on the Border and by the Lake are probably their best. It is a great experience, perfectly organized, with photo shootings by professional cameras and I recommend booking at least one of them. However, if you want an authentic aurora hunting, you should consider booking, at least for one night, with another agent, such as Arctic Timetravels (which we did and didn't regret), in order to have the opportunity to visit more than one spot for better chances to see the northern lights. The cabins are super cozy, warm and clean, unexpectedly spacious, with amenities and a tablet on the wall as your link to the reception but mostly as your aurora alert! And it truly works! The bathroom is also spacious. We stayed at cabin No 71, which was at the edge of the camp, offering us a stunning view of the forest. We were blessed to see the aurora both nights from our cabin, apart from our aurora huntings. But even if we hadn't, it is still an amazing experience to sleep literally under the stars and wake up with the view of a snowy forest!!! Tips: Cabins are truly great but I strongly recommend to book as many activities as possible, during all day and night! And DO NOT forget Europe's northernmost Saariselkä Ski Center nearby! Even if you are not for skiing, you should definitely book for Toboggan. Just walk to the Ski Center (or use the ski bus or ask NLV for a transfer with just 5€), buy a 2-hour ticket for Toboggan including free lift pass, use the lifts to get to the top of Kaunispää fell and enjoy the amazing view and the super amazing experience of Tobogganing! Last but not least, I would like to mention the helpfulness and kindness of the sales department. Since I wanted to plan some of the activities prior to my arrival, I asked for some information by email. Not only I had their promt response to all my emails but they also gave me a lot of information and offered obligingly to book some activities for me as well as our transfers on our arrival and departure day. Although NLV is indeed a luxury option compared to other hotels and resorts nearby, the overall experience that it offers undoubtedly is worth paying for, at least for 3-4 days. I suppose that this resort is the top of its kind and now I really regret we didn't stay more days. Congrats to the manager but above all many many thanks to the staff of NLV for making our stay unforgettable! Trust these people, as they truly know how to boost your experience to the top! PS: Mid March is the best period to visit Saariselkä. Not too crowded and better weather conditions for seeing the Northern Lights.

Our stay at Northern Lights Village was truly magical. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, it was amazing. We hadn't even put our bags in to our cabin and the northern lights were dancing in the sky. We were so lucky to see them every night. The cabin is the perfect size, so warm and cosy and clean. The buffet dinner and breakfast was great, always a good selection and choice for everyone. During our stay we went on a reindeer sleigh, photography lesson, camp by the lake, husky ride, snow shoeing and tobogganing (at the ski centre). The guides for all the activities were amazing, so knowledgable and made the experience so enjoyable. We have raved about our stay since we came back from our holidays and would highly recommend staying at the Northern Lights Village!

Amazing stay for a dream vacation! Every staff member was kind, helpful and so professional. We booked the 3 night/ 4 day romantic package for 2 and it was perfect! All meals were included as well as the activities below. We did pay extra for airport transfers to and from the airport via the hotel. To note, these are normal taxis simply booked through the hotel. The transfers are not directly with the hotel. Activities: - Snowmobiling (4 hours - small group): for this activity we rode through the beautiful woods of the surrounding area. There is a bathroom break about halfway through but also ensure you use the toilet right before you go as it can be a bumpy ride! We also stopped for lunch about 3 hours in with soup and a sandwich toasted over a fire. Loved this experience! - Hot sauna and jacuzzi (private): lovely experience with the sauna cabins very near the main reception building. There is a bathroom and shower within the sauna as well. - Hot stone massage (private): we were picked up at the main reception hall and driven to a hotel in the town of Saariselkä. The massage experience was wonderful! We walked back from the town and told the driver he did not need to pick us up to go back to the hotel. The town is small but has a few souvenir shops, gas station, restaurants/bars and a grocery store. There is a tunnel under the road that leads you straight back to the resort. - Husky ride 5k (private): a great way to start the day! We learned a lot from their keeper and there was plenty of time to meet the dogs as well. We were also very lucky to play with a litter of puppies! - Reindeer experience (small group): lovely experience with a local Sami reindeer herder. We loved learning about the history of the local Sami people, going on a reindeer sleigh ride, and feeding them. - Aurora hunting in heated sleigh with private dinner (all private): this was a highlight to our trip! The cute little sleighs/cabins were cozy and well heated. The dinner was in a heated teepee with a fabulous Finnish dinner. A great highlight to end our trip! Pro tips: - When you land in Ivalo airport you will walk off the flight. Be prepared for this as you will walk off in the snow and ice. Ensure you have all layers and sturdy boots out before you exit the plane. - Thermal/ waterproof winter suit, boots, head/face cover, and mittens are all provided for your stay. To note, if you arrive later than probably 9pm or earlier than 10am you will most likely have to walk to your cabin with what you are wearing rather than being able to retrieve these items first. This is just important to note so that you are prepared with what you are wearing to get to your cabin before you grab the gear. - Request a low number cabin. We stayed in cabin 10 and it was the perfect location. The front row cabins are the best to be in because the view is unobstructed. This cabin was perfect because it was closest to the paths and easiest route to the main reception hall for meals and activities compared to others in the row of cabins. - Highly recommend going end of March/ beginning of April. All of the guides noted how busy it is in December and how this time of year is perfect to come for a trip. We definitely agree! - If you arrive/depart between 1am -8am the main reception house with the food hall will not be open. This also means if you have an early flight there will not be breakfast. We had requested a breakfast box the night before and were told there would be cold breakfast from 6:30am onward. Which was not true. We arrived to the main reception house about 20 minutes before our pick up time and all doors were locked. Thankfully someone was cleaning the space and let us in so we wouldn’t be stuck in the cold and snow. We absolutely loved our stay and can’t recommend this vacation enough!

First solo traveling experience in my life, I was a bit afraid of being mildly ignored among entire families and groups of people, but every-single-one of the staff members, from reception desk to the last safari guide was as friendly and professional as you can get. The activities were amazing, whether Aurora sightseeing on clear skies, or Husky riding through calm, snowed slopes to riding a snowmobile through a harsh blizzard at midnight. Just an incredible experience that I'll never forget. If you doubt about how many activities to book, go big, honestly. I booked from home only about 60% of all the activities I ended up doing, It was so much fun that I kept going to reception right after finishing one to ask what activities were available for that same day. You are supposed to get back to your room tired and excited of the day you've enjoyed, not wasting half of your days idle in your room not knowing what to do. I don't have enough memory nor time to be grateful to every single member of the Hotel, Thank you to the bar and restaurant staff for the attention, thanks to Tamara for taking us on Aurora hunting at night on snowmobile, thanks to great Portuguese guide for taking us ice fishing over a frozen lake, thank you to the extremely knowledgable musher that spent half a day only by oursleves showing how to ride a husky sled (some of the dog were even his own!) thank you to Valtteri for guiding us through his home country. To all those I sadly forgot to name, thank you.
