Sold as a semi boutique hotel, it is at best Holiday Inn or worse. The building is quite beautifull from the roadside, but inside is a little on the run down side and totally soulless. Also, it is huge and the small pool can get busy very easily. Staf was what you would expect from this type of hotel, so fine on that front, but the real nightmare was the noise. Staid in a superior room with balcony number 141, which had the maids quarters in front, so the noise starts at 8:00am with talking and banging outside the room, then the gym in front of the room which started their classes at 7:30am in the courtyard so people talking and making noise then continued with gym classes and loud music all day. To top it all the bar just below our room had speakers with lout music also all day long till 9:00pm after which the street noise started till 1:30am, with the kinds fair blasting out till 1:30am, and that was crazy loud. Last but not least the dogs, lots of them, in the neighburing property which barck all day and night. The position is good and it has semiprivate parking to the side entrance, also breakfast was good, yet very busy. All in all not a good stay as way too noisy.…
We stayed here as part of our Sicily tour. Rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet. We had dinner our first night and it was good with plenty to eat and drink. Breakfast was also tasty with many options. All staff were friendly and helpful especially the restaurant staff.
Style and location of this hotel was ideal for us. The rooms were clean and tidy including the bathroom. Our shower had a weak flow but other guests stated they had no problem. Reception and waiting staff were friendly and helpful. We liked the food in the restaurant at both breakfast and dinner. The courtyard fountain is tired as are some of the fixtures and fittings.
We only spent the one night at Mahara as part of a driving tour around Sicily. From the moment we arrived we saw that the hotel needed maintenance and a freshen up. Our room was fine, a decent size, very clean and the hot water supply in the shower was great. Once again, though, the furniture on the balcony was not in good order. We have no idea where the pool was! We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was good and reasonably priced. There was also a good spread for breakfast. Staff in the dining room were all lovely and attentive. We were a little surprised when the fellow on reception insisted on keeping our passports until the following morning. The hotel was very quiet as there were only a couple of people staying plus a tour group of about 25. It may be different during peak time. It was an easy walk into the city and nice to stroll along the promenade. This is not the usual sort of place we would stay in but just for the one night it was fine.…
