Just got home from staying at Portes beach hotel as a family of 4. The hotel is lovely and clean staff are friendly and helpful. Room is clean and spacious for family of 4. Great hotel for staying with kids as beach park pool are right there. Not much to do other than the beach and pool but you can get taxis to other places which we did. My kids are fussy eaters we did struggle with the food choice but we did eat out few times as we did half board. Would recommend the hotel

overall a disappointing 2 week stay . room was not what we asked for with the toilet seat hanging off , tv not working and the aircon loud and ineffective . food was mediocre with many couples having a sickness and diarrhoea bug including us during our stay entertainment was for kids mainly with very little for adults . the staff were good and the beach is fantastic . hotel is more geared for families with small children than couples . the hotel is quite a distance from nearest town with taxis in the region of 25 euros .

Not what you expect for a 4* hotel. Just returned from a week at the Portes beach hotel and won’t be returning. We came down with severe diarrhoea and sickness which we later found out could be possible food poisoning after talking to multiple guests who suffered with the same symptoms and had tests done. There was multiple flies on the food on a lunch time and raw chicken been served. The pool area is very slippy and dangerous. The drink and food is not what you would expect for a 4 star hotel, there was very little choice. The sun lounges look like they had been there years and are very uncomfortable. The only positives is the hotel is very picturesque especially the sunsets.

On a positive note, the hotel grounds are lovely. Including the pool area and beach. It was also a nice touch the hotel offered free use of kayaks and pedalos. There is nothing around the hotel complex however we excepted this before arrival. The main issue with the hotel is that we suffered food poisoning while staying here. This was not uncommon as 10/16 of our party were bed bound for at least 24 hours in each case. When speaking to other guests we also found they experienced the same symptoms and food poising was found to be the issue after tests. For this reason I would not recommend this hotel.

Response from Portes Beach, General Manager at Portes Beach Hotel

We are truly sorry to hear about your experience at our hotel. We take matters like this very seriously, and we want to assure you that we are investigating the situation thoroughly. It's deeply disappointing that you and your party had to go through such a situation during your stay. As a light viral gastrointestinal virus and a food poisoning are two completely different things we would also like to point out that our kitchens follow all the legal protocols for food preparation and handling (HACCP & ISO 22000). Please check also that viral gastrointestinal virus is highly contagious and close contact with persons can spread it easily and especially in a group of 16 people. This doesn’t have to do with food but mostly with personal hygiene during food and buffet procedures from guests. All buffets have anticeptic stations and the hotel advises the use of antiseptic before and after meals We genuinely appreciate your positive feedback about our grounds, pool area, and beach, as well as our complimentary kayaks and pedalos. We strive to provide enjoyable amenities for our guests. We hope that you will consider giving us another chance in the future. If you have any further feedback or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and once again, we apologize for the distressing experience you had during your stay.

I’m going to try and make this review sound as least condescending as possible, as your holiday experience at Portes Beach really depends on how high/low your standards and expectations are of food, drink, customer service, health and safety etc. I’ll start with the one and only positive - the hotel grounds are stunning, spotless and incredibly well kept. You would think your walking into an exceptionally nice hotel - you’re not… Rooms - as basic as basic comes. Zero “nice” touches and looks like you’ve stepped back in time. Requested a baby cot for our 1 year old, it wasn’t there. After a walk back to the reception (telephone in the room doesn’t work), one was finally sent. However cot was damaged (one side was broken and netting was ripped) and it was absolutely filthy, we wouldn’t have let a dog sleep in it, therefore replacement sent after another walk to reception. Portes Beach, please just take cots like the one we received out of use. Food & Drink - where do I start…I feel like we have no right to complain about the food as other guests seemed like they were “enjoying” it, however this is where standards and expectations come in. Food was cooked fine, however the choice and the quality was absolutely abysmal. Eating quickly became just a necessity, not an enjoyment like it should be on holiday. As for the drink, if you like Lidl’s own branded Beer, Wine, Cola and “Fanta” Orange then this will be fine for you and I mean that with no disrespect whatsoever. Customer Service - Portes Beach is up there with the worst customer service I’ve experienced in the hospitality sector which was really surprising considering the Greek people are particularly welcoming and warming. I’d hazard a guess that a lot of staff aren’t Greek?! After one incident at the pool where another guest fell badly on the incredibly slippy tiles (I’ll get to this next), I ran to get a first aider, the 1st member of staff that I came across said “you’ll need to ask at the bar for the life guard”…another example - went into the main restaurant during breakfast to ask for a bottle of water to be met with “you’ll need to ask someone else, I’m clearing the tables” Incredible. Lastly upon checking out it’s usually common courtesy for reception to ask “How was your stay?” “Thanks for staying with us etc” but nothing, they just take your room card off you. Health & Safety - the tiles around both pools are exceptionally slippy for both kids and adults. My two girls (aged 4 and 1) fell countless times around the kids pool and that was even with wearing water shoes at all times. We also seen several other guests fall, one particularly badly. There is countless reviews advising of this, why has nothing been done about it yet?!? The stage for the kids mini disco is genuinely less than a metre away from the deep end of the pool so as you can imagine there needs to be a wall of adults preventing kids falling in. To top it off, my wife and 4 year old Daughter picked up a sickness and diarrhoea bug which we’ve discovered after reading recent reviews that they weren’t the only ones. This is not a 4 star hotel, nowhere near it. Jet2 absolutely need to review this and stop misleading people. We stayed here for 7 nights however decided to pay for day passes for 4 days at the Ikos Oceania which is a 10 minute drive but a world away in all aspects that I’ve described above. If it were not for the Ikos Oceania saving our holiday then we would have checked out early from Portes Beach and headed home. We genuinely could not have spent 1 more day at this place and needless to say we will never return.

Warning hotel is in the middle of nowhere, unless you just want sun and low proof alcohol this isn't the place for you Also be careful with the food, you tell me were hotels provide imodium and anti sickness for free. Both partner and I got food posioning, we where not the only ones during 14 day stay spoke to over 20 people who had the same. Had to request sheets be changed after 7th day. Entertainment is terrible, Definitely not 4 star more 2 or 3 Also mosquito are shocking, renamed then piranha flies. made worse in room as air conditioning is rubbish Looks amazing on photos Good point beach and sea are amazing, also free peddilo and canoe use.

Very disappointed with the other guests allowing children to run around screaming and causing chaos. Food was very average and possibly the worst we have had in Greece. The air-conditioning in the room was to say the least very poor. As for a 4* I would give it 3*at best, won't be returning.
