#1 of 5 in Menfi
Travellers' Choice
The La Foresteria resort is the hallmark of the hospitality of the Planeta family, the ambassadors of Sicily and of its fine wines and oils throughout the world. Located on the southwestern coast of Sicily, in Menfi, a town between Selinunte and Agrigento, it bears resemblance with a typical village of rural homes standing on the hill to watch over the surrounding vineyards and olive groves. An enchanting site located just 4 km away from the crystal-clear sea and the beaches of fine sand of Porto Palo, which has attained 16 Blue Flags, an internationally recognized eco-label awarded to seaside resorts that meet criteria on sustainable environmental management. La Foresteria has 14 spacious rooms, each of which blends together a sense of essentiality and style to offer a vacation truly Mediterranean in spirit in a place of genuine beauty and superb hospitality of the Planeta family. A stay at La Foresteria means enjoying a special vacation and unique experiences: the cooking course that our chef Angelo Pumilia holds to teach you the recipes of the Planeta family and the secrets of traditional Sicilian cuisine, from Sicilian-style pasta with sardines to "true" caponata, from the superb timbale in Ricotta cheese crust to scabbardfish with herbs. Every recipe is made with local ingredients and finely matched with the best Planeta wines. While staying at La Foresteria, you can visit the wine cellar where you can taste wines matched with the dishes of "Casa Planeta". The resort also offers a wide range of services: a restaurant, a marvelous deck level swimming pool, a relaxing Turkish bath, fitness area, bicycles at your disposal for ride to explore the nearby olive groves and vineyards, guided tours to archaeological sites of Selinunte, Agrigento (Valley of Temples), and Segesta. Please refer to the calendar of events and happenings with all the available offers to choose the type of stay you prefer: wellness, sea, romantic, fine cuisine (and drinking), cultural, weekend, last-minute.

Stayed with my wife and 14 year-old daughter for four nights. The setting, the design, and the food was amazing in every regard. I would strongly recommend the cooking class (Angelo is fantastic) along with the wine tour and tasting. There are a few nearby (less than 30 minutes) towns worth exploring too (Sciacca has plenty to offer) but simply relaxing at the hotel was great. The staff (all supermodels!) were great in assisting with anything from trip planning, wine recommendations, etc. A great deal of care was put into the design and operations of the hotel and restaurant and it shows.

Set among gently rolling green hills with views of vineyards and olive groves, La Foresteria Planeta resort is the ultimate in peace and serenity. While our schedule did not permit time for the many amenities offered, we did enjoy a wine tasting among the ruins at Planeta’s Ulmo winery. The entire staff was constantly at the ready to offer the best in customer service. We thoroughly enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet as well as the chef’s creative, original and oh-so delicious dinner menu offerings.

We had an amazing lunch, in the midst of beautiful grounds, with a lovely view of the sea beyond and the vineyards in between. We found the staff to be very attentive and caring. Afterward, we strolled around the herb gardens, which we enjoyed very much. We wish we could have stayed here.

I had the luxury of spending 5 weeks in Sicily. My finals days were spent at the planeta menfi. I spoke with a member of their team to plan a great last weekend, I was very excited about the gorgeous beach that planeta guests could use. I confirmed with the planeta staff who promised me that the beach club was open until sept 30. I arrived on the 26th for my extravagant weekend with wine dinner pairing to find out they closed the beach club early, I felt betrayed by this. The entire vibe was gone.

One of the nicest resorts I have stayed in. Every detail, down to the linen napkins is planned. All staff are attentive and helpful. The rooms are beautifully designed and comfortable. The food is delicious and chef Angelo is imaginative and accommodating for special allergies. After our first day the staff remembered I was gluten intolerant and brought gluten-free bread to every meal. Then there is the view and the grounds. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the resort is.

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at this place. The service, the food, the location and the wines are absolutely world-class. The Terebinto and their Chardonnay -both made with grapes from the same area - are stunning! I am surprised they don’t have at least one Michelin star…yet! I wholeheartedly recommend it!

La Foresteria Planeta occupies a wonderful spot, on top of a hill overlooking vineyards. It is a charming property, ideal for a couple of nights of relaxation. The restaurant is very good, with a beautiful view of the hills at the front and the kitchen at the back. To be precise: the lunch service was not so good (some bland recipes), whereas dinner was exceptional. The wine is a highlight, featuring plenty of vertical selections of Planeta’s most famous wines going rather far back with vintages. My only point of criticism are the rooms. We had a Junior Suite (supposedly the highest category). The decor is rather dated (especially the bathroom). The biggest issue was the VERY noisy air conditioning unit. We flagged it to reception but it was clear that there was nothing they could do. It made it hard to sleep, choosing between swarming hot temperature or constant noise.

Nice hotel and wine experience. Owned/run by the Planeta family/winery. Room large and comfortable with good views over the vineyards to the sea. Food good albeit menu choices limited if you stay more than a couple of days. Wine excellent.

Beautiful destination hotel, lovely staff but service is lacking. We are mid way through a 2 night stay and were anticipating eating all our meals here. Unfortunately, due to the service, we have made other plans - which is a shame, and a disappointment :-( We have been here for 24 hours and on 3 separate occasions been left feeling dissatisfied by the poor service... 1. Ordered 2 glasses of wine by the (beautiful!) pool area in the afternoon - they didn't arrive. 2. At sunset we ordered 1 Apperol spritz and 1 glass of the Planeta sparkling wine - 2 Apperol spritz arrived. 3. We sat down for dinner at 9pm as arranged (the restaurant has 12 tables) - we waited 45 minutes and reminded staff 3 times before we were served our wine, it eventually arrived after our starters had been served, and the wine was not chilled. We are still enjoying this wonderful place, and the staff are all lovely people - unfortunately they do not seem to notice, and therefore rectify, their service inadequacies. Considering the room rates, and the wine & food prices, things should be better...

Majestic resort in the middle of wine country. Fantastic views with a beautiful infinity pool, perfect to relax and enjoy a drink or wine. Dinner was delicious and eaten in an outdoor arbor covered space. Wines of course were excellent. Just a perfect place to spend a few days away from it all.
