Don’t waste your time or money on this place. Trails are poorly marked, and they don’t even give you a map. We walked around in circles, and were lucky to find our way out before dark. Some of the trails are out of service.
We went there with the guide Jorge and had an absolutely amazing time. The lodge and trail were not crowded which we really enjoyed and so we could fully focus on the peaceful nature. The bridges (especially the 2nd) are really cool and exciting! We encountered beautiful nature and saw many animals. After the tour we had lunch in the lodge which was delicious and the staff was very friendly and welcoming! Thanks a lot to Jorge and the lodge team for this great time. We would also recommend this place to stay overnight which we haven’t planned on our trip but would have been great!
We went there to hike their hanging bridges trail. We had the whole trail for us - it's certainly not a tourist trap! The three hanging bridges are pretty amazing - high over the jungle floor. After the hike we had lunch at their restaurant. Would we not have already a place to stay in Bijagua Heliconias would have been a good alternative. Amazing views, lots of wildlife. The whole lodge including the trail system is a community effort of the city/region of Bijagua - the best example of ecotourism which supports the local community.
Heliconias breakfasts were awesome! The lodge is friendly, and the staff go way out of their way to take care of your needs. The trails are the best, and the guides on the night hikes are knowledgable and personable. Bring ponchos!
One of the richest wildlife experiences in Costa Rica! This hotel has 2 hiking paths that you access directly from the hotel campus: a short Heliconias Rainforest Trail that we did at night and saw frogs and snakes (might be less scary if you do a night hike with a professional guide...) and the longer Heliconias bridges trail that we did early in the morning and enjoyed a close encounter with a troop of howler monkeys that swung overhead while we crossed the second of 3 bridges! There was a sloth hanging out in a tree adjacent to the hotel and toucans eating plantains just outside the hotel dining room windows. The trailhead to access Rio Celeste is a short drive away... but our most memorable hikes were definitely the ones that we did just from the hotel campus. The staff at Heliconias was friendly and helpful, breakfast and dinner were typico and great, but our favorite typico meal was in Bijagua at soda called las Tinajitas- pura vida!…
