We were a bit early - but that wasn't a problem. In fact we were upgraded to an upper corner room with 3 windows offering a breathtaking view over the Herault river to the cathedral, which, along with the bridge, is beautifully illuminated at night. Just a few turns from the train station and you are at the hotel. it's a busy street during peak periods, but not quite as loud as the quacking ducks in the river or rowers practicing...all quite entertaining by the riverbank below. the modern windows cancel most sound anyway. Genuinely friendly owners who aim to please but knowing a little French helps the guest. They recommended dinner at the floating barge directly across the river (the admiral) and it was good advice. Looked expensive but was actually good value, tasty and personable. We returned and were glad it was so close. A noteworthy site nearby is the Canal Du Midi turnaround with 3 spokes off it. Easy walk. From the nearby train station a bus takes you to Grau d'Agde, promenade, restaurants, beach and river mouth for the commercial fishery bordered by twin lights. Breakfast was spartan, but adequate. Loved the view from the room.…
After looking at "La Galiote" which I was anxious to avoid, I opted on the Araur. Paid 70 Euros per night and stayed two nights, no breakfast but a lovely bar nearby. Reception helpful, can speak some English, which with my French saw us get by. Nice air con room at front, sound of church bell lulled to sleep. Handy for the beach, station, town centre. TV French channels only and about a dozen channels. I was kindly offered a bottle opener for my wine plus a nice glass.
The location is good, right on the river. That said it's on a main road so there is traffic noise. The people running the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very basic, probably haven't been refurbished for at least 20+ years. It's relatively inexpensive but given the quality, isn't great value. Breakfast again was basic; croissants, bread and a yogurt.
The hotel owners are welcoming and very helpful. The hotel is bright and comfortable with a great location by the river, but only 5-10 mins easy walk from the station. I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Araur and I would recommend it highly.
I have stayed at this hotel on and off for over three years and find Martine and Jerome excellent hosts. This is a small French hotel with great views across the river to the old city and Cathedral. As an Australian breakfast is a perfect French one to experience. The hotel is so clean and fresh - nothing too much bother for the hosts to do to help your stay in Agde, as arguably the oldest city in France take the time to cross the bridge and wander the old town. The hotel is perfect location for the bus service to the beaches and the train to anywhere in Europe. Shuttle bus to the airport five minute walk.
The hotel was extremely clean and neat; the owners were very nice and accommodating. We asked for additional pillows and they kindly provided them. They had a nice breakfast area with very good croissants, coffee and orange juice. Hotel Araur was also a real bargain! We would definitely return to this hotel!
Hotel Araur has an excellent location, it is situated on the banks of the river Hérault 5 minutes over the bridge from downtown and near the airport bus and train station. It is a simple hotel, as the new owners (since 2013) are improving further . The rooms are fresh and the beds comfortable . Select any one room with a view of the river and the cathedral , it is magnificent ! You have WiFi in the hotel lobby and free parking around the corner . Best of all is probably still the friendly and helpful owner couple, they take the time to have a chat and have an eye on the time. We can heartily recommend the Hotel Araur , we have stayed there several times and we will return. Inger and Ulf Nora, Sweden
3 of us recently stayed at this small hotel in Agde while cycling the Canal De Midi. It was small quiet and comfortable with helpful owners who recommended a great place to eat. I would recommend this hotel
I can't quite put my finger on what I didn't enjoy about this hotel. The best thing about it was the wifi and the view. On arrival, they couldn't find our booking and it was a bit of a palava checking in and our French isn't great and neither was the owner's English so it was difficult. The room was basic but clean. We weren't given any extra info on check in and I suppose I should have asked, but we didn't know check out was 11am and I was still asleep in bed when the owner came into the room to wake me. Freaked me out. There was no bin in the room to leave our rubbish so I put it in one of our own plastic bags and left it for the cleaner. When I returned to collect our luggage, it was conveniently placed on top of our luggage. Almost as if it was a hint to take it away ourselves. So that I wasn't impressed with. All in all, Agde was nice but I wont be returning to this hotel.…
Very helpful and friendly owners, but basic accommodation in a city where there is almost nothing to see out of season --we came here in October on our way to Barcelona from Avignon, to make a stop and see another place, but found nothing interesting, maybe summer time would be a better time to be near the sea. Anyway, the hotel is too simple. It's very difficult to understand how hotels are rated, since having travelled quite a bit we've seen two-star hotels which were more like three-star accommodation. This is not the case: plain room, rather rundown, like most of the city, and not in the centre.
