Set in the botanical gardens grounds of a lakeside mansion, this is a great B&B. On the edge of a small village with an excellent family run Pizza restaurant (by the little harbour) and ice cream shop by the Church. What more do you want. A few minutes car ride from Laveno with ferries across the lake and free parking (blue line spaces) except holidays and Sundays! Do walk through the botanical gardens and alomng the lake shore. Spring must be gorgeous. Breakfast is relatively simple but more than you need. Fresh fruit and squeezed OJ, croissant, cereal, boiled egg, toast. All day coffee and tea available. Very good WiFi.
I had the opportunity to know Polidora b & b and the beautiful surroundings. A beautiful and elegant base to relax and from where to visit the Lake Maggiore area. I recommend this property to the lovers of trees and the stunners of nature. The gentle owner Mr. Gianluca represents the third generation who cares for and delivers a beautiful dendrological park with rare and majestic trees from all over the world.
This is a lovely place - and not hard to find either - right on the banks of the lake with lovely views and the gardens are spectacular. we loved it and there are really good restaurants just down the road on the lake front, but the highlight for us is the delightful young lady who is the hostess - Giulia - she was lovely, welcoming, informative and prepared the most delightful and generous breakfast. Highly recommended!
We were the only guests for one night at this B&B where we stayed in the Azalea room. Point #1: the place is unnecessarily hard to find ans there is no external sign. If you take the 1-way street from Cerro to Via Gottardo on the left with the red gate on your right, the B&B is behind the red gate. But without a B&B sign or a bell, we drove around three times before giving up and texting Giulia again. Why bother giving anyone an ETA if the gate is not open? Once we got inside, the key with fob for the gate let us come and go as we needed. Point #2: the upstairs room was very large and quiet. It included AC, a wardrobe full of real hangers, a small fridge with bottled water included, two chairs, low table, one floor lamp, bedside tables with good lights, and a large window looking out over the lower courtyard. The room definitely needs another floor lamp for better light, a full length mirror, and certainly needs luggage racks or some long bench at the end of the bed for luggage. Who really wants to put suitcases on the floor? The bathroom was large with a terrific shower and 2 sets of generous towels, towel rack. For the price, amenities are meager -- liquid soap, shampoo, and two shower caps. No tissues, lotion, vanity mirror, etc. As we were the only guests, we had a quiet night's rest. Point #3. The grounds are special indeed. The garden is large, unique, and lovely. The lake views are superb! Also, we asked for and got gratis tickets to the Villa Panza for the next day. There is a large sitting area downstairs with a coffee machine, which we did not use. Wifi was good. Point #4: unlike other comments, we had a satisfactory breakfast outside, although we would have liked more coffee, rather than the one small cup. The offerings included hard boiled eggs, prosciutto, three cheeses, fresh OJ, bread, and a fresh peach. Point #5. Guilia was a helpful hostess and we appreciated the tickets to the Villa Panza. Summary: this could easily be a 4.5 - 5 star establishment with corrections for easily getting to the location, the room amenities, and more coffee at breakfast.…
Having stayed at a friends residence on Lago Maggiore several times in the past I sought to replicate that special experience with my fiancé. Polidora surpassed our expectations and made for a delightful stay. Guilia (manager) and Jean Luca (the owner) were joyful and kind. The property leaves you wanting for nothing. If you've never been to the Italian lakes I would strongly recommend staying like a local on this beautiful lakefront private property.
What a wonderful 'find' and a super location for a peaceful holiday rest, just a short stroll through the stunning gardens to the lakeside beach for a cool swim. We were travelling with our dog and the Polidora B&B was so welcoming and accommodating during our stay. 'Giulia' the manager was so helpful in assisting us with anything we needed, including making an appointment for us at a local vet for our dog to be checked over before returning to the UK. She was also most helpful in recommending places to visit and the best restaurants to eat at. The breakfasts were wonderful too and taken outside on the terrance overlooking the lovely gardens. If you're wanting peace & quiet and stunning surroundings at Lake Maggiore you won't be disappointed here.
We stumbled upon this delightful property by accident almost, and it was an absolute delight staying here. The photos just don't do it justice - the location is amazing, the botanical garden breath-taking and the views of the lake, simply stunning. Oh, and there's red squirrels too! It is effectively like you're part of a Fitzgerald story and are somehow lost it in... We bumped into Gianluca, the owner, who was so lovely and took us for a tour of the gardens telling us the stories behind the trees and making us feel very welcome. He is a fascinating character and a very nice person. Giulia looked after us very well too! She made sure we had all we needed, made as a delicious breakfast and booked us into a very nice local fish restaurant. She was so sweet and helpful and we couldn't have asked for more. Overall, we had a lovely time and the only regret was not staying for longer. Will definitely return! Thank you for everything!…
great place, unique garden and rest, very pleasant host, we were surpiced by the place and the small beach/village next to it. if you want to feel like mr great gatsby, visit a few days here and you feel extroidenary. very cool place!
Polidora is a unique B&B with an isolated garden setting right on Lake Maggiore and away from the crowds. Room was spacious with access to large common room where a great breakfast was served. Very helpful hostess Guilia made sure we were comfortable at all times.
Do not hesitate to book this stunning accommodation. Peace and tranquility on the beautiful lake maggiore. The gardens are amazing. A peaceful location to unwind and relax. Amazing pizzeria in Cerro, a 10 minute walk away in the lovely unspoilt village.
