Price / performance ratio is hard to beat, you see wonderful new details in the rooms and on the grounds all the time. Modern and traditional in one. Huge garden. Philippe is wonderful caring host with exquisite taste and knowledge of arts. Lots of interesting places nearby. The approach through narrow village streets (2m wide) is an adventure in itself! Would return anytime!

Staying at Cas Vallate is one of the best things you can do. Philippe is super friendly and a wonderful host, all the rooms are decorated with so much taste, the garden is really a paradise and the lake is very nearby (walking distance). I enjoyed every moment and was sad to have to leave. Hope to be back!

Casa Vallate is an immaculate villa surrounded by a garden in a village of Castelveccana on a lake Maggiore. If you fancy a peaceful stay overlooking the mountains, cooking meals and having them in the outside space (garden, courtyard, balcony) or a big kitchen, you will find here everything you need. Philippe is an amazing host, who managed to create a modern high-standard accommodation out of an old villa preserving its authenticity and charm, and makes his guests' stay here relaxing and comfortable.

We arrived at Casa Vallate very tired and disgruntled from being sent the long way round from the airport. It took us 3 hours, with 2 train changes, when in actual fact there is a DIRECT 1 hour train from Milan Malpensa Airport! I had already read this on a review but stupidly didn't question it when the train guard sent us on the longer route from the airport. We certainly didn't make the same mistake on the way home! Anyway, having walked 10mins up the hill with our bags from Caldé station we received a friendly welcome from Philippe and Antal. Philippe even went so far as to give us some pasta and pesto to cook as we hadn't eaten and all the shops were shut (3pm - quiet time!) which was a lifesaver as I was close to tears! We stayed in La Pergola, which is on the ground floor. It has it's own kitchen (whereas all the other guests share the lovely big communal kitchen) and a separate bathroom. We were staying as a couple and La Pergola suited us perfectly as it was all self contained. The gardens and grounds are beautiful and very peaceful. Later that afternoon Philippe drove us to the local supermarket to stock up on food! He and Antal really are extremely accommodating and full of advice and information on what's around and where to go. As we had no transport they kept offering to drive us to places, but we found we were fine walking, taking the train or ferry to most places. We took a long walk around the local area and walked up to the obelisk on the hill that can be seen from the garden of Casa Vallate. There is a little trek down the hillside on the other side, with some spectacular views of lake Maggiore. Again, Philippe told us about this and it was worth doing! Fresh bread every morning was a lovely touch. We would definitely recommend for a relaxed, romantic and enjoyable stay! P.S. Philippe speaks so many languages! He said he used to know around 15, but has forgotten a lot of them. He spoke brilliant English and we heard him conversing in German a lot of the time with other guests!

After extensive research looking for a small B&B on the east side of Lake Maggiore (one hour direct train from Milan Malpensa), I came upon Casa Vallate and just had to book there for a week in October. I was not disappointed! Philipe met us at Calde train station on a rainy Saturday evening and proved to be a charming and hospitable host. Both Philipe and Antal are very accommodating and helpful and staying at Casa Vallatte was pure joy. Philipe spent two years renovating the house and his keen eye for detail shows in little touches everywhere. There is a large kitchen for guests to use (including fresh bread each morning) and our room faced the very large, beautiful garden and lake in the distance. We came upon a Pizzeria less than 10 minutes walk away for our second evening which was excellent and very reasonable. There is also a supermarket at Porte Valtravaglia which also has a few shops and is an excellent place for a Latte break. Casa Vallate, the location and holiday was just perfect!
