We stayed a few nights in this hotel and were a bit disappointed. The hotel needs to be redone. The wall paper is peeling, the fan in the bathroom doesn’t work at all, I’m not really sure the door locks. We had a room with lake view (+), which means the balcony is directly on the main road and therefore loud at night (-). The guests in the lobby can be easily heard through the door late into the night, and in the morning (around 730) the maids begin their work - our room was across from the storage room, so we could also hear everything. There is a main water drainage pipe in the wall next to our bed, so each time a guest uses water it is very loud. When we first arrived I genuinely thought the maids had not finished, because no pillows were on the bed (we had to grab some from the closet) and there were two glasses on the night stand with no water. Water isn’t a must, but then why the glasses? The hotel does have free parking, but first come first serve, so we didn’t trust to take the car out in the afternoons. It is walking distance to the main part of the city (15mins) as well as a small shop (10mins). There are plenty of restaurants within 5-20min walking distance. Breakfast was very good. Bread, rolls, filled croissants, fruit, cheeses, meats, eggs (hard boiled and scrambled), jams butter and something similar to Nutella, cereal and Müsli, yoghurt, and milk / juices. Try the red juice - that one is very tasty. Staff also very friendly, when we asked for more pillows they provided them immediately. …
Staff lovely and helpful and food ok. Interior of rooms something to be desired. Peeling wallpaper, broken wardrobe doors and lights. Other peoples hair on pillows! Private beach and garden my !***. Mosquitoes and what loojed like a sewage pipe, let alone the campsite that looked more like a traveller sight also using the area.
On a Leger coach tour and this hotel was by far the best of the ones visited in Italy, food delicious, rooms with views, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming . Would highly recommend this hotel. Well done Leger
Stayed here with Leger Holidays. Great location, just by the Lake and a short stroll to the shops etc. Nice and clean although the rooms were very variable in quality. My room was quite small and garishly decorated although it was perfectly adequate for two nights. Friends had a much larger room with a balcony! The food was amazing, two sets of canapés followed by an excellent three course meal! Breakfast was also good but a bit chaotic with lots of people boiling their own eggs. Nice friendly staff who were keen to help plus a nice bar.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. There are stunning views over Lake Maggiore and the hotel has a lakeside garden for guests. The room was clean and tidy and we had our own balcony. We certainly enjoyed the food and service. Be aware that the hotel is on a busy main road with traffic very heavy at certain times of the day.
We had two nights here as part of a coach tour and having nothing to complain about. The food was ok both in the evenings and at breakfast. The waiter was very pleasant and made us all laugh with some of his light hearted comments. He certainly wasn't offensive or rude as suggested in earlier reviews. The rooms were clean and had a balcony with a view of the lake. There was no air con but this wasn't needed as the temperature was in the mid teens.
Awful place, no air con, food under average, Leger holidays should re think and not book anyone here, Cannobio is very nice, suggest walking into the lovely little village down the road. Room dirty and hot, noisy road outside .
Stayed here as part of a leger tour. Had a balcony with a view of Lake Maggiore- Italy & Swiss sides. Family run hotel. No air or fan which was a big shame- as temps were very high. Tiny bathroom had no air con so felt like a sauna at all times- l rectified this by having a hot shower which then made the room - briefly feel alittle cooler. The room we had overlooked a busy rat run road, with traffic constantly roaring up and down all day and night. The sound of motorbikes in the early mornings became annoying. But because of no air con you have to sleep with balcony doors open. Food was lovely. No hot drinks which seems to be the thing in Italy. Little put out by being told about the tip box which was placed on a table in the centre of the dining room and being told we should tip because it was expected. Many of us didn't for that very reason. Tipping should be an optional personal decision.…
We were told as our Leger coach drew up that Albergo Campagna was a family run hotel - but that's not an excuse for sloppiness and cynicism. When did Italian service become so sneering and high-handed? I was once married to a northern Italian, and I was taught many valuable lessons about hospitality, none of which seemed in evidence in this out-dated establishment. The antipasto on the first evening looked deliberately insulting - two round slices of salami with a strategically placed gherkin - quite phallic in its imagery... At breakfast "mine host" (the elderly grandfather) asked if I'd like tea or coffee. I replied in Italian that I'd like tea, and he proceeded to pour out what seemed like hot water, but DID have the slightest hint of colour. I asked if he had anything stronger, and his reply was: We're not in England anymore (!!). Then he hurriedly suggested that he could bring me a teabag to pop in my cup. The next morning I heard someone on the next table comment on the strength of THEIR tea, which received his reply: You should ask your butler when you get home. I'm sure he knows just how you like it (aghast!!) Tip for the paterfamilias - a jug of hot water and some teabags would save everyone a lot of trouble... Other reasons to return to this jewel of a hotel - ants in the bed, no air-con (okay, but what about a few plug-in fans for the bedrooms in temperatures of over 35?). We heard more stories from other guests, but felt we should only comment on our own nasty experiences. Come on, Leger, time to review your hotel selection policy for your very captive audience.…
DO NOT STAY HERE! We arrived and checked in at Campagna. We were on tour with Leger Travel Company. There wasn’t a very friendly welcome to start with but it got worse. Peter our coach driver explained about the facility and internet plus he spoke fondly of this place and the owners and it sounded ok, until we settled in. We walked up to our room and my heart sunk, I couldn’t believe this hotel was picked by a big company for people to stay in. A Joke! I would rather have stayed at Faulty Towers at least it was clean. The wallpaper leading to our room was in a terrible state. Somebody described it as Shabby Chic, I would leave out the word Chic! No air conditioning or even a fan in the bedroom – temperatures hitting the high 30’s ! The bedding was dark and old with a matching material hanging from the headboard, another place for more dust to accumulate. Saying that, the sheets were clean, beds were comfy, ensuite showroom was ok but we had to ask for three bulbs to be fitted as two lamps in the bedroom never had any plus we needed one in the bathroom for make-up and getting ready. They fitted that one but strange they still didn’t put two in the lamps. We had a balcony with a view of the lake but you could hear the noise of a very busy main road that passes the hotel. Some people pulled back their bedding and found there were ants in it and another guy pulled back his curtain and a cockroach fell off. We sat down looking forward to the meal but then I saw a cockroach beside a young lads chair and mentioned it to the people we had met on this tour. Food was dreadful and I mean DREADFUL! And they took the Michael. They really did. I’m a vegetarian. It’s our first night and I got my starter: a sliced tomato and that was it. Dinner: a bowl of white rice with a small amount of watery tomato sauce but it wouldn’t have covered the rice. I couldn’t believe what they were feeding us. Peter our tour guide came up to me and asked if everything was ok but by then I was so upset and disgusted at what they served us after a long 9 days on the road. I almost lost it. Peter didn’t want to discuss it and walked away. My husband is a meat eater like most men on the tour, Meat eaters were served starter: Two thin slices of Salami with a very small gherkin and Main meal: pasta with a few bits of minced beef and watery sauce. They could count the little bits of meat in their dish. Some of these guys were big men and used to eating good food. It turned my stomach as we are not used to eating this sort of rubbish, I wouldn’t even think of serving that muck to a child. I was totally embarrassed for the people who stayed there to eat, we had to walk 15 minutes into the town to eat on those two nights. I’m still feeling angry and upset, it was humiliating. Water in this hotel was 3 euro with drinks a bit pricey but if you turn right out of hotel there is a little bar 100 yards up the road where they sold water for 1 euro. The only thing we enjoyed here was a lovely day visiting the Lake Maggorie and the Borromean island of Isabella - its beautiful, I could have stayed there forever plus Stresa is a lovely place to visit. This should be inspected by the Ledger Company if their bringing English people to stay and not word of mouth. Its terrible!…
