We stayed for 4 nights in September just long enough to visit all the interesting sights. The monasteries of Alcobaca, Tomar and Batalha are stunning and not far away and even Nazare is worthwhile visiting if you approach it from Sitio up the rock face (easier for parking). There is a heart-stopping view to the beach below and you can... More

Words cannot adequately explain the magnificent experience of Casa Alta. I recently stayed at the bed and breakfast for my second time; the previous time being March of 2013. It's simply the epitome of perfection. The bed and breakfast is immaculately clean. The food is wonderful! The bed and breakfast offers the opportunity to experience in-vivo history of medieval Portugal.... More

The Casa Alta is run by Father John Mariani, a transplanted American who joined the priesthood late in life. The house is quaint, nicely appointed and Father John is a great host. We were there a day before the pilgrimage at Fatima nearby. It was an interesting and fun time to be there. We loved the house and the other... More

The hospitality my daughter and I received during our recent stay was second to none. Fr. Mariani is a wonderful host who kept us entertained and cheerful throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the rich and varied traditions of this fascinating area and we were bowled over by the beautiful house and fantastic views. Words cannot express how unique... I would just like to start out by saying this is not an ordinary B&B experience. If you are looking for something completely different stay here! The location is perfect, the sweeping views of the countryside are awesome and the house and grounds are beautiful. We made day trips to Fatima, Batahla, Alcobaca and even to Nazare with little to... Our experience at Casa Alta Royal Lodge was by far the best part of our two week trip to Portugal. The lodge is beautiful, the rooms cozy and spotless, and the gardens unreal with views of the valley on one side, and the Castelo de Ourem on the other. We were welcomed by Fr. Mariani like old friends. We were... More

If you are traveling anywhere in the vicinity of Fatima and Ourem, choose to stay at Casa Alta Royal Lodge. My husband and I spent two nights using it as our point of departure for day trips far beyond and found it well worth the effort to get and return there. I have been trying to put into words how to describe our Casa Alta experience and the task is next to impossible. It was beyond wonderful! Father Mariani is the perfect Host--so pleasant, charming, warm and hospitable. Valentina - the cook and housekeeper - is an asset that Casa Alta can be very proud of. The cuisine was every bit... This place was highly recommended by a friend. It's a well maintained house that has only 3 rooms available for lodging.
