Christina Dunleavy goes above and beyond in offering a comfortable and welcoming stay at Ashfield House, Cong. The bedroom was spotlessly clean with plenty of fresh towels. Breakfast was varied and appetising, made to order.
We found that nothing was too much trouble for Christina.

Absolutely wonderful hospitality, views and vibes. Plenty to do in the area and within a reasonable driving distance. Other members of my family have stayed here in the past as well, and will definitely choose Ashfield House again in the future. Thank you, hosts! <3

Great rural setting and close to restaurants (Cong). Hostess was very attentive and the room was immaculately clean! Breakfast was very good and plentiful. We picked this B&B because of the rating and we’re not disappointed! I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Ashfield House is a good location if you're interested in visiting Cong, and the surrounding areas. The rooms were small but adequate and very clean. I would recommend a sweater for the breakfast room if it is not a sunny day.
The breakfast offerings were generous, hot and multiple.

A great location for a visit to Cong and the Quiet Man museum and village. Even if you were not going to visit Cong the location is perfect as we had travelled down the west coast from Castlebar towards Galway, and this was a nice stopping point in the journey and not too far off the main road.
Located on the Ballinrobe to Cong road, very well sign-posted and easy to find. Parking was very good for quite a number of vehicles, even large enough if you had an RV.
The room was extremely comfortable for our family of four with a great shower in the en-suite. We arrived late as we had been driving all day and the plate of biscuits was much appreciated when we finally arrived.
Getting there late was not an issue as we emailed ahead of time and kept in touch, Christina was very accommodating when we did arrive, the best.
I would stay again the next trip to Ireland and highly recommended the Ashfield House to any and all visitors, single or family. At breakfast we talked with some of the other visitors and they couldn’t get enough of the location and amenities in the area.

Our arrival was late, our room was gone. Christina did find us another room and have us follow us her there. However, I have traveled all over the world and have never had a room for which I had a reservation given away. This was after our plans had become topsy-turvy because my husband was recovering from food poisoning and had spent most of the previous day in the emergency room. The only time an innkeeper has made me cry!

Response from christina d, Owner at Ashfield House
Responded 17 Jan 2014
Your Reservation for August 17th - You arrived in the early hours of the 18th of August your review posted on Christmas Day I do understand your disappointment at not being able to stay at Ashfield house, but As you are aware your reservation was made on the B&B Ireland Ltd Booking Engine and the terms and conditions are "ARRIVAL between 3PM and 6PM" or advise the home directly if you need an early or late check in ". At no time did you make any contact with me. I presumed that you were not arriving. When you arrived at Ashfield house it was nearly 1 am, we had locked up and gone to bed. I got out of bed and took you into the sitting room and offered you some tea. I proceeded to ring around to other b&bs in the area to find a room this took awhile considering the time of night but I found a B&B just 10 minutes drive. I got dressed and into my car and drove ahead of you and got you checked in to the other B&B. It was very unfortunate that your husband had taken ill a few days before, but, you did tell me that you back tracked from Sligo that morning to the Giants Causeway as you had missed out on this because of the illness, and then that left you with the whole journey back again to the West - if you had phoned me I would have had No Problem Arranging a Late Check In Ashfield house is an Award Winning Family run bed and breakfast and I have been welcoming guests over the last 15 years. I give personal attention to all my guests and I always do my utmost to make guests feel welcome and ensure that they enjoy their stay, this is evident from the positive reviews, my guest book and all the lovely greetings and cards that I received this Christmas from past guests. I also have a very high percentage of repeat guests. With this in mind, and as you did not get to stay at Ashfield House if you get to visit Ireland again I would love to welcome you back to Ashfield house, so that you can experience true Irish Hospitality and explore the beauty of the Cong area.

Ashfield House: Clean, tidy, tiny: adequate. We are in the smallest twin room we've occupied in 30 years of travel. One of us has to get in bed for the other to edge to the closet or bathroom. No space for suitcases or gear except the floor. We checked in on a cold, wet day (48F) - our room temp was about 55F. We inquired as to when the heat would come on and our hostess repied "In the morning for a couple hours, because we haven't needed it yet evenings" so we put on our long underwear and wool socks and sweaters until we went out to dinner. The bath has spotless modern fixtures - but we had to keep our cosmetics and towels on the end of the bed because there was no room the bath to put them - and no cabinets or shelf space in the room. This is a basic, clean accommodation with adequate breakfast hosted by Christina, a pleasant and helpful owner.

This is the third B&B in Ireland I've stayed in this year and certainly the best. The room was comfortable, very clean and well kept. The family and their dog were also very nice and friendly! The breakfast was also above average and served in a nice setting.
All in all, a nice family run B&B with a warm welcome and great value.

Ashfield House B&B is somehow rated as a 9.3, the third highest of 9 B&Bs on our trip in Ireland, but was not nearly as nice as many of the other B&Bs we’ve stayed at with ratings in the mid 8s. (Clearly I don’t understand the rating scheme.)That said, Ashfield provided a perfectly acceptable room in which we opted to spend two nights. The room (#5) was small, had fake wood flooring with one tiny rug that had the look of being dirty. Lighting was very good during the daytime due to a solitary 45-degree roof window (un openable), but very poor once the sun set due to remarkably inadequate electric lighting. I really don’t understand why about half the BnBs we’ve stayed in seem to choose to save a few pennies by providing such poor lighting in their guest rooms, and in nearly every case the lighting could be greatly improved with simply brighter bulbs, and better lamp shades. Bathroom, small but adequate, was even darker. Plenty counter space for toiletries, however. Shower fine, no washcloths. Breakfast self-serve selection meager at best, but the cooked to order options were quite good with delicious potato waffles, decent pancakes, and the usual (not tried) Irish Breakfast. Hooks behind entry door would be a good addition. And better lighting! You’ll have to drive about 2 km for dinner.

Ashfield house is situated just 2 km from the Ashford Castle gates.
All one needs to do is turn right on leaving Ashfield house gates and drive 2km and you reach the Ashford Castle gates. There is then an avenue into the castle.
Any further questions please do not hesitate to ask or if you need me to check any particular dates just email me
Yes they do -- several, in fact! The room in which my wife and I stayed had a full bed and a twin.
