I stayed here with my tour group overnight, arriving from the river boat on the Mekong River. It is situated on a hill overlooking the river. The rooms are simple and clean, and the service is great. The town of Pakbeng is small and quaint and lovely for a walk from the hotel.

We stayed just one night on our way up the Mekong on a Shompoo Cruise. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and the river view from the balcony in our room, or the bar area of the main building is stunning. The room was simply furnished with bamboo style furniture and there is no AC, but the ceiling fan was very...

This is a basic hotel with no telephone of TV in the room BUT it was a wonderful stop overnight on our trip. The food was great and the rooms had everything we needed overlooking the Mekong River. The staff were most welcoming. Highly recommended for an overnight stay.

Great location with stunning views over the Mekong. Hotel is superbly presented, rooms are nice, all with views. Staff very friendly and helpful. Diner and breakfast included in package was nice. And we even got to interact with elephants walking trough the grounds. The manager was very friendly and truly welcoming. He runs a "tight ship". After struggling to be...

We got the impression that there was a bit of a "couldn't care less attitude" about this hotel - reception rather brusquely said "no we have no plug adaptors (they should have) and one got the impression from the reception staff that as one, and presumably most other travellers up the Mekong, were only passing through and probably for just...

We were on the two day boat trip fom Changkong to Luang Prabang. You have to stop in Pakbeng and as we were staying in a terrible guesthouse we decided to go to the Sanctuary for dinner. It's a great place on the evening stop during the Shompoo cruise up/down the Mekong river. We ended up in a suite at the top. From the river, you climb up bamboo walkways, then maybe 5 flights of stairs to the welcome area. Some rooms are here. If not, then you get in a Tuk yuk and they take you...

After the slow boat we arrived here at dusk and first wandered through the village before winding our way here - what a nice surprise- it's a real hideaway with beautiful gardens and a lovely communal area. Only regret we are only here for one night as I'd have liked to do some of the treks they had on offer.

Sitting by the bank of the Mekong, Pakbeng Lodge is halfway between the World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang, and Huay Xai, the main border crossing between northern Thailand and northern Laos, both towns reachable within a day by cruise.Attached to each of the Lodge's 20 Superior Rooms, 8 Deluxe Rooms, and 2 Suites, is a large terrace overlooking the river. The Lodge is an ideal point of departure for walks in the forest of an hour or a day, towards villages off the tourist roads. (Please see our section on Excursions.) It faces the Mekong Elephant Camp, which is dedicated to the protection of elephants in Laos. There, a wonderful opportunity exists to discover the life of an animal that contributes a strong element to the traditional culture, by participating in a walk or with their morning bath. The Pakbeng Lodge suggests you stay a few days in this protected area far from the beaten tracks. You will appreciate the comfortable atmosphere, the picturesque sunrise and sunset over the Mekong, and the comings and goings of the different boats that dock near the Lodge's beach.
