What a absolutely rude and ridiculous manager. Got there about 6pm. No wood for fire and shop was shut the place was FREEZING!! Not the staff's fault if management won't provide firewood! THEN.... knock knock by management before 7am on our door as the hot water service had tripped and the switch was in our room. THEN she RUDELY blamed me for locking the door. No. If you may need to get into the room have a spare key or communicate it even leave a note on the inside of the door stating not to lock it and this may happen. So absolutely rude, no wonder the place is for sale!…
Extremely poor service. We arrived after dark in the cold after traveling 600km and expected to have a nice hot cup of coffee but they had nothing in stock. We called the owner and her response was shocking, “if you want to be served coffee, go to a guest house” “We are already cheap, why must we serve coffee?” We stated that we will rate her establishment negatively due to poor service and her terrible attitude she said “do what you want”. I have literally stayed in hundreds of backpacker establishments all over the world and I was able to get a simple cup of coffee at all of them, but not this one. The mattress was thin and noisy and the room had a raw concrete floor. If I wanted to sleep in a tin shack I would never pay that kind of money. I rated negative on their Facebook page and they have since managed to remove their whole rating function in order to conceal their poor service. I do not recommend this place at all.…
We spent one night at Platberg back packers en-route to the coast. The room was spotlessly clean and had all the amenities one needed including a fridge and a microwave. The host were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
I stayed at the Backpackers for 4 nights, although initially planned just 1 or 2:) Platberg Backpackers is a perfect place to stay on the way to the Drakensberg or from there It's a family-owned hotel with home-like atmosphere. The facilities are more than sufficient, the kitchen is well-equiped, There is also a gorgeous garden, a cozy lodge and a good library. The wi-fi works well:) Heloise and Jaco are very nice and helpful people. We shared some nice conversations and ideas. I would definitely come here again and recommend it to everyone:)…
Although Harissmith itself doesn't have a lot to offer, this hostel is really good stop for a couple of nights. The staff was so friendly and keen to help, the kitchen for self-cateres really well equipped and the rooms clean, comfortable and warm (especially in winter REALLY important, this was one of the only warm hostels in SA). It has a nice living room with a fire place to hang out and supermarkets around the corner. Definately recommend it!…
