Stayed here for a wedding. Terrible service. No power or water even though the Guest House has generators. The owner, Ane, refused to speak to me when I asked and chased us away when we launched a complaint. Her husband came to shout at us in our room. They also attended the wedding and ended up speaking badly about us at the wedding. Terrible food. Rotten wood deck. Bad client service. Rather not stay here. You will have to pay full price for no water or electricity and be asked to remove yourself when you complain to a owner who refuses to see you.

Quick stopover in Harrismith on our way back from KZN Coast. Nice old turn of the century home. We booked the family room. Dinner is only available Monday -Thursday We had to go elsewhere and on a Sunday in Harrismith not very much choice. (Suggestion - have braai packs or something similar available for guests over weekends) Breakfast was good, just the toaster that's not working properly and you end up with toasted bread on one side while the other side is still soft! But hey, that's First world issues.

Very well equipped with excellent décor. Gives one the experience of time that's gone forever. Will stay there again plus also recommend to visitors to see the place and feel safe when you stay there. Very quiet and old.

My father and I travel through to Durban every year and use the Shady Pines as a stop over. Wow, what a venue. Warm and inviting. The rooms are clean and spacious. We have stayed in their single queen rooms and twin rooms in the main house, as well as the outside twin rooms. All are fully equipped with showers, tv, kettle, cupboards and electric blankets (these come in handy over the colder months). We have not dined at the venue for dinner as we never know an exact time of arrival. However their breakfast spread is well worth it. We will forever stay and recommend Shady Pines. Keep doing what you do.
