What a pleasure! My wife recently booked us 3 nights at the Drakensberg Mountain Retreat for our 2nd Anniversary...and it did not disappoint! Everything at the Vergezient Lodge is about the client...immaculate rooms, breathtaking views, good food and great service! A special word of thanks to Shaun (Manager) for the extra effort that he had put in to accommodate my...

We immediately felt welcome when greeted by a very friendly Paul who manages the place. The rest of the staff was as friendly during our whole stay. We unfortunately stayed only one night, but this will be a great place to escape the rat race. There is plenty to keep yourself busy with even if the weather isn't too good....

One of the few pet-friendly places in the Drakensberg. Beautiful, vast views of the Drakensberg with plenty of ground for my dogs to roam. We walked for about 2-3 hours twice a day, either following walking trails or strolling 1-2kms up the Retief Pass to enjoy sunset at the Kaalvoet Monument. My dogs were happy, there were lots of dams...

I cannot make up my mind about this place. if I were an upmarket backpacker i.e. want better than hostels it would probably be perfect. Dolly, who is charming, made it quite clear however they were aiming higher than that, in which case they need a serious rethink for what is a converted cow shed. There were positives but many...

This place is beautiful. We stayed here in Oct 2004 as a group and had our own private chalets between about 4 per chalet. The staff were incredible and really went out of their way to make us feel at home. They did water sports and other activities with people there and children but we went on hikes through the...

If the place was called a "guest house" instead of "mountain retreat" , my attitude and approach might have been much better. I planned our 17th wedding anniversary as a surprise for my wife and explained to the institution that it's a romantic surprise, thus they knew what my expectations were. I was assured the " honeymoon suite" would offer...

We visited Drakensbeg Mountain Retreat to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and really enjoyed the experience. As mentioned by a number of other visitors, the drive on the dirt road was a bit challenging, but we managed to do it in about 30 minutes in a relatively low sedan motor. Once there though, the views and the peace and quiet...

Ah, we had a lovely stay here all on our own mid-week. The drive to the lodge is spectacular-especially for bird watchers (take it slow!!) and as you bend around more and more corners of the lovely gravel road, your anticipation grows-what lies at the end of the road?? The lodge is one long building that stretches across the edge...

High in the Drakensberg Mountains, at 1700 m altitude, some 50 kms north of Bergville, at the end of a very well mapped 12 kms long dirt road, you will find Drakensberg Mountain Retreat. It consists of the Barnhouse conference facility and the Vergezient Lodge. We had booked ourselves into the latter. Their website gives very precise information on size...

I love this place. This is my second stay there. The first time we stayed in two different rooms so I stay in three rooms in total. The best by far is the room on the other side of the pool area, but don't tell anyone! It is like having your own apt. with access to the pool. It is...
