So lets start off by saying that the staff & owner (Christy) are all great. Couldn't be more helpful or welcoming. I came with 2 dogs & it was never a problem having them there. I stayed in room 1 I think it was which opens straight out onto the terrace/ garden at the back. The pub is lovely, v...

Ate here twice during a stay in the area...once for lunch, had a smoked haddock, spring onion and sun blushed tomato risotto that was scrumptious! It was listed as a starter, but was ample for lunch. Beer selection is good; I fell in love with Sneckdust. Very cozy atmosphere.

Went for Sunday lunch and had 3 courses all of which were really enjoyed. The duck salad to start and the lamb for main were very tasty and great quality. The creme brulee to finish was equally good. Cosy atmosphere. good service to say it was so busy as well. Thank you we will be back!

The Golden Lion was a real surprise. It was a stopover on our Coast to Coast journey and we were prepared for a traditional pub hotel - which is perfectly fine - but the Golden Lion surpassed any expectations. Our room was huge, newly decorated with a very edgy and modern bathroom (with the BEST shampoo!). The restaurant was full...

On our way up to Newcastle, we stopped off for lunch at The Golden Lion. On a Sunday, obviously, a reservation is essential. My wife chose the goat's cheese pithivier while I opted for the chicken Kiev, a dish I haven't eaten for many years. The pithivier apparently, was beautifully presented and very tasty, and my Kiev was delightful -...

Lovely lunch - particularly enjoyed the curried parsnip soup. Lamb was melt in the mouth. All in all a warm welcome and attentive staff. Thoroughly recommend for a fabulous lunch and a warm welcome from the staff here.

Our third time here and it doesn't disappoint. We booked Room 2 with it's superking bed and walk-in shower. Even though it's over the restaurant it's totally quiet. The food downstairs is the best in town. If you're traveling in the area, don't miss the Golden Lion.

I stayed here at the very last minute prior to a meeting at Wilton. The helpful woman in the phone said they could accommodate me at very short notice and that they could keep the kitchens open for my late arrival as I was staying. I arrived at 8:30 and entered from the cold dark outside to the most welcoming...

Service and staff very good. Unfortunately meal very disappointing and very overpriced. Order sirloin steak at £21.95. Paid extra for a peppercorn sauce. Steak was cooked perfectly but was served with frozen chips and lettuce leaves, very poor standard. Peppercorn sauce was very bland and very watery. The bill was £79 for a couple of lagers and one bottle red...
