To celebrate our anniversary we booked a night in a beautiful stone cottage in Glenmalure Co Wicklow. It is part of Wilderness Lodge and Cottages and is nestled in the scenic village of Glenmalure. Maura gave us a warm welcome at reception when we arrived and asked us what we would like to do that afternoon. She recommended that we take in the amazing views from Dwyers Rock which is a short walk from the village. From there we would backtrack slightly and join the Wicklow Way which leads on to the Miners Loop walk. The walks are clearly marked and remarkable for the stunning beauty of the surrounding mountains streams and valleys. Maura supplied us with the relevant map and said that the route could be completed in under 3 hours. Her advice did not disappointment us as the views were truly amazing and we were immersed in nature within minutes of starting the walk. When checking out I spoke with Frank and he gave us sound advice and maps on walking the famous Glendalough Loop that day. Glenmalure is only an hour from Dublin and the walks are accessible to anyone with average fitness. This romantic location is truly restful and already we are planning our next visit. …
We stayed this weekend with our sons in two rooms. They were spotless with everything you might need. Toiletries, tea and coffee, plenty of towels. If it's not in the room you just need to ask and it will arrive. The view was breathtaking and the welcome from Maura, was breath restoring. She is the thread that binds this wonderful retreat experience together. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is provided but little things which meant so much to us, like opening up the hall, offering us things we had forgotten, sheer kindness, from the heart not the business sense, was evident and given. It's not a profession, it's a vocation to be as welcoming as Maura. She lives welcome. We had a wonderful time and we want to come back. Unforgettable.
A group of us stayed here while the quest glendalough challenge was on. I cannot recommend this place enough. Maura the lady who owns the place is so lovely and accommodating. She went a above and beyond for us. The rooms have everything you need. Towels, toiletries and tea and coffee. The little touch of chocolates was so nice to. The glenmalure pub is a minute walk away and the food was lovely. Great craic was had. It’s such a beautiful scenic place to stay. We will definitely be back
It's hard to put into words just how wonderful our stay was. The accommodations are exceptional, the location scenic, and the proprietors are the nicest people around. The proprietor is a publican who runs the lodge out of love, so what you get is a personalized experience, with recommendations geared toward your interest and hill walking level. Don't worry about charting your route ahead of time. Frank and Maura will chat with you, lend you maps, and help you to navigate your way. When we were stranded with no taxi available--because the only taxi driver was visiting family in the North--Frank, the proprietor, immediately went out of his way to pick us up. His and his wife Maura's concern and desire for their guests are without limit. They want you to enjoy your stay and will bend over backwards to make that happen. Friendly, caring, considerate, and real, Frank, Maura, and their lodge are the best. Although the lodge is self-catering, guests can purchase food at the lodge across the street. This establishment has earned the Saroely stamp of approval. Two thumbs up!…
Small space which contains kitchenette, bed and bathroom. Go with someone you know well ! Expensive for what it is . Owners like to chat and live close by so silent taking in the scenery may not be an option ! Close to the Glenmalure Lodge Hotel for great food. Clean accommodation. Nice bathroom. Would recommend.
