Wonder owners, beautiful and well maintained property, soft beds, private bathrooms. The hot side of breakfast was cooked as we waited, so very fresh and good sized portion.
I happened on this through a random search, but I will absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone I know headed to Wicklow.

A wonderful location tucked away and yet not too far to drive to shops, etc.. We were made to feel very welcome by Tom, who communicated well before booking, and was very accommodating regarding our dog. Comfortable bed, lovely shower, and delicious breakfast. Would recommend.

Stayed last week, and we were kindly allowed to bring our small rescue kitten! We got the lovely room with the sun terrace, and the weather matched up for a change! Tom kindly drove us to Glenmalure Lodge where we had our dinner on our first night, and organised a taxi back, this was great as we had yet to orientate ourselves. Perfectly located for access to Glendalough, Sally Gap and Military Road, Mount Usher, Avoca and so on all within less than 20 minutes drive. The house and gardens themselves are really lovely. Husband enjoyed very ,uhh his cooked breakfast each morning and I was grateful to indulge in a variety of fresh fruits, yogurts and cereals. And gorgeous fresh cafetière of coffee too, bliss. Highly recommend and we’d love to come back (without kitten though!)

After reading the reviews before writing this, I was shocked to find that the owner does indeed have a pattern of double booking! I think it's disgraceful! We booked 4 rooms, three were cancelled without our knowledge and one remained which he refused to refund despite us not staying there. Very disappointing stay and the host's attitude made the situation ten times worse! Very aggressive and rude. Would not ever recommend this place to anyone. It's not the time of place where you'll feel welcome. It's the type of place where you're walking around on your tippy toes afraid to disturb the owner.

Response from Tom Moylan, Owner at Birchdale House B&B
Responded 22 Aug 2021
The situation which arose at 1.30pm on 3rd July 2021 was very unfortunate, but it was not of our making. You arrived here with a large group of 11 people, with a booking for one double room only and created a very intimidating situation for us. It was everyone else’s fault except yours. Even when it was explained to you over the telephone by Booking.com, you didn’t want to know. The cancellation of the booking was, according to Booking.com, due to insufficient funds on the Card used to cover the €327 cost. This was cancelled 9 days before the check in date on the 24th June at 11.06pm. This was done automatically by Booking.com and not by the Property. The person who made the booking was sent an email from Booking.com confirming this cancellation. Booking.com informed me this to be the case. The Booking for the one room, which was made separately was not cancelled. You walked out, without cancelling this room. However, I received a request to cancel and refund this booking at 7pm approx. on the day of arrival, while my latest possible booking on the same day is 8pm. Therefore, this request was far too late to cancel a booking; I can only request Booking.com to cancel the booking. Booking.com need permission from the person who made the Booking. I did try to cancel the booking from 2pm, so I could try to resell the room and refund you, but Booking.com could not contact you. Therefore, the room was un available online for re-sale. It was not a Double booking, because you did not have a booking. You cannot comment on our previous reviews without knowing all the facts. We would have found alternative, similar to our accommodation, for any guests. Like we offered to help you to find alternative accommodation in the area. You still had one room with us and we even offered to allow you use our Barbeque and Bar Area to salvage your party and we offered to ferry your guests to and from any alternative accommodation, but you rejected this offer. You say that the booking was cancelled without your knowledge, but that’s not true, this booking was cancelled due to insufficient funds on the card of the person who made the booking, that is you. It is therefore, incorrect to say that it was without your knowledge, as you were informed by Booking.com. You did not stay at Birchdale House, and therefore you have absolutely no right to make any comment on what it is like to stay with us. You arrived here with a large group of 11 people, with a booking for only two persons and created a very intimidating situation for us. And, it was everyone else’s fault except yours. Even when it was explained to you over the telephone by Booking.com, you didn’t want to know. I tried to help you. You were a nightmare for us. Tom Moylan Owner Birchdale House B&B

Lovey stay in the B&B! We booked the cottage (not sure the exact term but the Double Room with garden view, outside the actual rooms of the house) and it was lovely! Very quiet, peaceful and the room was plenty warm in September, but also has a radiator/heater. Little fridge if needed but it’s lovely to have access to a shared ‘bar’ as well. Lovely breakfast in the morning and perfect for two people.

If you are looking for an amazing Bed&Breakfast in County Wicklow, Ireland highly recommend staying at Birchdale House Bed&Breakfast. Upon my arrival to this Bed&Breakfast. I was made feel very Welcome. When I arrived Tom the owner showed me around and showed me my room. The Birchdale House is located not far from Glendalough and is ideal for people who love walking. As stated in the above I was made feel very Welcome. It should be noted I served all the World with the U.S.Marines and lived in the United States of America for over thirty years. I definitely know a great hotel from my travels and life experiences . I definitely will stay at this amazing Bed&Breakfast again in the near future. The Birchdale House Bed&Breakfast rates Five Stars and more! you definitely won’t be disappointed. Tom the owner very kindly drove me to my next destination. All the staff are all very professional and friendly! The Breakfast was amazing. A must stay in County Wicklow, Ireland!

We LOVED staying in Tom’s beautiful garden cabin at the Birchdale House B&B. We were hiking the Wicklow Way and Tom kindly picked us up and dropped us off near the trail. The cabin was super cozy, private, and very clean. Also, the breakfast made by Tom’s beautiful wife Sam was delicious! We loved the honesty bar and the Irish hospitality overall was above and beyond! Highly recommend :)

This B&B was very nice. Our room had a beautful large balcony that overlooked the back garden. Unfortunately if was cold and pouring rain so we never got to use it. The room itself was spacious and clean. Breakfast was good. There was ample parking.

Although it felt like we were lost in the back woods it was just the route our GOS sent us. It was well worth the drive. And we were only 10/15 minutes from Rathdrum and Glendalough. The home is beautiful and our host was very welcoming. He had some good recommendations for food and provided a delicious breakfast. We were encouraged to make use of the back yard. The setting was beautiful. I would definitely return.

We are just home from a few days here. There were 5 of us,including two kids. Tom and staff could not have been nicer to us. Very accommodating. Extremely helpful. More like a family run hotel than a b and b. I will definitely return in the future. I might even go alone for some rest and relaxation. Just perfect 🥰
