Very warm welcoming hostess and host. Lovely spacious and clean with ensuite and tea making facilities which is always a nice option. Breakfast the next morning was lovely. Have stayed here a few times and will always go back. Its like a home away from home.
We spend a night at Coolalingo on Friday, July 17th. It's a great base for hillwalking in Glenmalure. We climbed Lugnaquilla and got back to the B&B at around 7. Maura very kindly put my soaking wet boots in front of her stove to dry them out. Our room was facing the river, and had lovely views. The room was clean and warm and the shower was hot! The next day we had a typical Irish breakfast and Maura let us fill our flasks with tea before we headed off again. They are very nice, decent people and I'd highly recommend the place if you want to stay in Glenmalure.
Other B&Bs I stayed at had rooms facing the road and were of new construction with thin walls so noise carried. Coolalingo's solid farmhouse with bedrooms facing out to the pasture was a lovely surprise. Breakfast was excellent and Coolalingo was steps from the Wicklow Way hiking trails and the good food at Glenmalure Inn. It was also nice that Coolalingo had reasonable rates for single travelers.
We stayed at Coolalingo B&B for 2 nights, but paid for 3 since we arrived at Dublin Airport at 5am (from the USA) and had a 7 year old with us. We really appreciate Mick and Maura holding that room for us and it was nice to have breakfast within a couple of hours of landing in Ireland! We thought our son would enjoy a working farm and we were right. And Mick and Maura treated our son like a grandson! It was his first trip outside the USA and he loved every minute of our visit to the Wicklow Mountains. The B&B is around a 30 minute drive to Wicklow town on rural roads. But Glenmalure Lodge has good food, beer and outside seating for when the weather is good (which it was for us) and is walkable (like 150 ft away) from the Coolalingo B&B. We will definitely return when we are visiting the Wicklow Mountains again.…
My first country spot to stay, thoroughly delightful hosts, and fantastic food! Highly recommend for solo travelers and couples. Glenmalure is a tiny little spot in the Wicklow Mountains - and its a gorgeous locale. Town Inn is just over the bridge, for a bite to eat and some live music.
