In the last couple weeks I have stayed in at least 12 hostels across South Island and this was my favorite. This hostel gives you much more of a "homey" feel and less of a cookie cutter feel where there are 100 other travelers in and out. Yes, Punakaiki is out of the way but I am so glad we...

You can't get any closer to the ocean than this! You can see the blow holes blow at Pancake Rocks from the beach in front of the hostel. Well equipped kitchens. good seating/lounge areas. Room 4 is right beside the toilet so recommend getting a different room. Joe and Patrick were excellent hosts.

We stayed at Beach Hostel in a 6bed dorm for 3 nights. We had booked a 4bed dorm in Te Hui, but when we saw beach hostel, we wanted to stay there. The room was nice and quite big. Kitchen was one of the best and cleanest we seen during 6 weeks in NZ. You can buy good fresh bread...

We were probably the oldest people here but we loved it. It was a very refreshing change! Joe greeted us on arrival and took us to our Sunset cabin right on the beach. It is basic but clean and well maintained. Great to sleep at night with the waves crashing right outside your door. Joe and Patrick make bread, muffins...

We loved our stay at the beach hostel! Emma checked us in and is delightful with answering questions about the area and making you feel welcome. The setting for this hostel is spectacular- right on the ocean where you can enjoy sunsets and stargazing nightly. We were in the Sunset Cottage and enjoyed having our meals and wine on the...

Located between Westport and Greymouth, Punakaiki Beach Hostel was a lovely surprise for my girlfriend and I. We just wanted to sleep one night there to get some rest after a long travel. But the thing is, this place is ridiculously clean and comfy. I didn't expect that at all. Kitchen, bathrooms, Lounge,... everything is neat and tidy. And there...

Wonderful owners, always around to help out, they make fresh home made bread, cakes and cookies. the place is great location, right in front of beach, my bed is nice and firm to the wall and room is spacious. Kitchen is always clean and well equipped, I certainly recommend to people and will go back again.

This is probably an awesome place to stay if you are in your 20's and wanting to hang out at night, but not the best for anyone who wants to go to sleep early or needs to use a toilet during the night. Our double beds were pretty good and the room clean, but we were upstairs from the toilets...

Upon arrival I was met by Joe who checked me in and gave me lots of information about the surrounding area. The 6-bed dorm I stayed in was spacious and very comfortable; with the bed being wooden and built against the wall, I had 2 very pleasant nights sleep! The kitchen was well equipped and always clean and tidy, the...

We have had scheduled late arrival to Punakaiki and were a little worried that there will be no one to do the check in for us. The owners were so great that they have left us note with all the instructions and wifi codes. The beach is so close that you could hear waves all night long. Unfortunately we didn't...
