This was a budget overnight stay. the location in the forest was lovely. It was a short walk from the beach and about 3km from centre of town and meal options. There were facilities for cooking, the apartment was clean and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, there were not insect screen on the windows to allow windows to be open...

Lovely cabins in the rainforest with easy walking access to the beach and within walking distance (3km) of the Pancake Rocks and blowholes. This is a YHA as well as a retreat and has a common room and communal kitchen. We had our own private cabin with an outside deck. Lovely and tranquil and surrounded by rainforest. You need to...

Awesome place to stay! This place is very different from any hostel I stayed in. Te Nikau is nestled in a beautiful forest and it is a treat to walk around the grounds towards the beach. It's so well-organized, stocked, and clean. The kitchen area is huge and room was a decent size. This place came with everything I needed-fridge,...

We were a group of 6 staying here for a night, spread across the hideaway cottage and a ruru lodge room. This place is very different from any hotel/ hostel you would have stayed in. It has a wide variety of accommodations to choose from. It even has a sky-gazing unit with a transparent ceiling! Our hideaway cottage was pretty...

This might be the best hostel we've ever stayed in! It's so well-organized, stocked,  and clean. The kitchen area is huge and our room a decent size. The bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the Wee Store so we could have eggs in the morning... great idea! We'd definitely go back.

This was booked as a one night stopover driving from the top of South Island (Golden Bay) to Franz. We needed a break in the journey and this was in the right spot. We booked a private cabin with all it's own facilities. The price was very reasonable. Facilities all there. There is also accommodation with shared facilities, we popped...

We booked Te Nikau based on the amazing reviews and I think the best part about this retreat is the value, but we were rather disappointed with our stay. First of all, we had booked a room in Te Ruru lodge, but upon arrival, were told that another couple was already sleeping in our room and that we would be...

Wow, this place is awesome, hard to believe it is a hostel. Nestled in the most fantastic rainforest setting was our room, hideaway cottage. We had everything we needed, including air con and wifi. Walked the Truman track to the beach for sunset which was fabulous. Reasonably priced, you must stay here.

We stayed in the hideaway lodge during our 2 night stay at Te Nikau Retreat and were not disappointed! We were nestled right in the rainforest and less then a 10 minute walk away from the beach. The lodge was not over looked and in a nice quiet spot just up from the main pathway. The hideaway came with everything...

We stayed in the hideaway cottage which was setup snugly in the bushes. The common facilities are excellent and they do have a kitchen which packs essential stuff (not free; but with reasonable donations). The beach is just a 10 minute walk away and is an excellent place to spend an evening (beware of sandflies though). The pancake rocks are...
