A group of us arrived at Kokonga Lodge earlier than expected as we'd had some pretty shabby weather on the rail trail and were wet and cold. When we arrived Dorothy and Malcolm greeted us warmly then made sure we all got to our rooms to warm up. When we came down they had put everyones wet shoes by the...

We had been warned that we would be in big trouble if we came early or used the wrong door or entered the kitchen or asked for any variation on poached egg breakfast. That all turned out to be very true and not the exaggeration we expected. Not very relaxing - a stressful experience - everything strictly time-based. Strange shaped...

Malcolm and Dorothy are veterans of the hospitality business and it shows in every aspect of their establishment. A comfortable room with a window seat overlooking a splendid view followed by aperitifs in front of the wood burner ( v. chilly summer) and a restaurant quality meal. Yes, you may be paying little more but it represents good value. We were...

With the closure of any hostelry from here to Middlemarch this is the last sanctuary on the rail trail and what an oasis. Fantastic views, comfy spacious accommodation and an evening meal to die for. There is also a liquor licence allowing a fine selection of wine and beer to be purchased. The full breakfast after a great nights sleep...

Due to a booking mishap on our behalf (we had booked the same day the month prior) we were lucky to even get a room it turns out. We were most excited about staying at Kokonga because of the homemade meal, but we missed out because we had booked the wrong date. Nevertheless we were welcomed off the track sodden...

Kokonga Lodge was a great place to spend the night while on the Central Otago Rail Trail. Our hosts, Dorothy and Malcolm were extremely friendly and gracious. The evening meal was delicious and the rooms very comfortable. There was a guest lounge that overlooked the beautiful gardens with views to the mountains in the distance. If you don't visit Kokonga...

Dorothy and Malcom are superb hosts to our group of 6. We stayed a night with them on the Rail Trail, and found them very friendly and obliging. The lodge is very comfortable and spacious. Our evening meal was excellent, and then a hearty breakfast before getting us underway again. Highly recommended. Thank you

The property has lovely gardens, and two interesting historical buildings on site. These consist of an old schoolhouse and the masters home, which is now a private residence. We understand the property is to shortly change hands. This was the last stop on our ride.
