Beef Island Guest House, as of August 7, 2019, has not reopened and is still being repaired from hurricane Irma. The same is true for the attached restaurant De Loose Mongoose, though a few other bars/restaurants are open on trellis bay if you are waiting for a ferry or flight.
We chose this location because we had an early flight and wanted the extra sleep of being so close to the airport. It has a "cottage" feel and great location at marina and beach with lots of restaurants. We were only there for 12 hours so did not explore much. Checked in smoothly, ate at the restaurant, had a great sleep, and left for the airport. Staff helped us arrange a cab in the morning (a short ride, but it would was pitch black and we did not want to haul bags in the dark). Room was spacious and clean. No frills and wifi only worked in common area, not in room. There is very little privacy because doors are all slotted (so no solid barrier). Only real complaint was we were coming off a charter and really wanted a nice warm shower and neither of us got one. The water was not ice cold, but it was not enjoyable or even tepid, it was cool.…
Last minute booking and stayed here for 2 nights on my own. Felt very safe, but you are a bit out of the way. Trellis bay is great and had good restaurants. Room was large with aircon. Had shower and a fridge so you could pop to supermarket and keep some stuff in your room. Wifi also available. Staff polite, when you see them.
I'm at the Beef Island Guest House as I write this. It's 10:30 p.m., and although I'd love to get some sleep, there is band playing island music about 75 feet outside my room. The Windows don't shut, but even if they did, there would be no peace. A restaurant next door, the Loose Mongoose, has live music three nights a week. We don't know how long they play, because there is no management on site to ask. So, we may need to drink ourselves to sleep. (Kidding.) We are with a group of 7. We had four rooms reserved (with confirmations). When we arrived, they had reservations for only two rooms. They had three rooms available, so one of the couples in our group had to go elsewhere. The rooms are no-frills. Old furniture. A soggy bed. I admit the ambiance suffers from the music outside, but trying to be objective, it's barely passable. Thus far, the room appears clean. It is convenient to the airport, which is why we chose this location -- we leave tomorrow. But, after a day on the water, we were looking forward to a good night's sleep before the trip home. Looks like we will be disappointed.…
This was our first stop on a 12 night trip to the BVI. We walked to it from the airport (you can walk via the beach or a gravel road, so rolling luggage was a challenge but we packed fairly light). The guest house has four rooms, all air conditioned, and it was clean and comfortable (though it would be nice if our room had a chair). The guest house isn't big on frills, but it was a very enjoyable place to spend a few nights. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. It sits on a small stretch of beach, and is near some great places to eat and enjoy a drink.
