Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely stunning property, situated within walking distance of the beach and restaurants, cannot recommend it more highly. We had a nice room with a small en-suite which was sufficient for 2 nights stay. Lovely soft bedding and towels provided and breakfasts on both morning was very nice with home made preserves etc. Made to feel welcome too

We spent two nights in this comfortable B&B in early July. We booked two interconnecting rooms at a total price of €300 for two adults and two children including a lovely breakfast.
The house is superbly located on a quiet side street but only five minutes walk to the beach/ restaurants/ bakers/ shops etc. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful but in no way obtrusive. They gave us great local recommendations and even booked our restaurant. Gaston the long shy dog was a huge favourite of the children.
The bedrooms, dining room and living room were all bright and smartly decorated in an elegant though understated way. Our interconnecting rooms were configured in a slightly unusual manner in that one bathroom contains a shower and basin etc and the other bathroom contains a toilet and basin. Both bathrooms were bright and a reasonable size and we had no difficulties with the configuration.
St Palais is a lovely old-fashioned seaside town with a wide and clean town beach. It provides all the amenities a holidaymaker would need without becoming garish or over-commercial. Like the B&B, it manages to find the perfect harmony between having it all and getting away from it all.

Highly recommended, a great spot!

Situated in a quiet neighbourhood about seven km north of Royan we found this oasis - perfect for tired bikers after a long day of cycling. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and the feeling was more like «coming home» than staying at a B&B. Lovely breakfast - a recomended choice for any traveller !

What an amazing place. It's on our list to visit again. It is so close to the village and the beach too. A very French resort with a lot to offer. Babette and her husband were perfect hosts and nothing too much trouble. The room was very comfortable with a balcony overlooking the front garden and a very quiet road. A very small en-suite but adequate (I don't spend my holidays in the loo!).

Babette recommended some places to visit which we did and enjoyed each one. Babette obviously has interior design experience and it shows throughout the whole house. I fully recommend this place and Saint Palais Sur Mer.

We stayed at Villa Frivole three nights and really enjoyed our stay! Gilles and Elizabeth are the best hosts you can think of, always helpful, nice, cultivated and always suggesting inspiring outdoor activities and cultural ones. We biked on the beach dozens and dozens of kms, after which we treated ourselves with great dinners nearby. We had a very nice large room with a balcony, the bed and mattress were excellent and the breakfast a feast. We will be back soon!

We spent two nights at Villa Frivole. Our room was terrific, our breakfasts fabulous and Elizabeth and Gilles were wonderful hosts. The house has loads of fascinating objects to enjoy. The location is great as there are many enjoyable drives to a really interesting coastline and it's an easy walk down to the town to enjoy wonderful dining right on the beach. This area is a quiet retreat from the more busier areas to the south. A great little secret location!

Excellent romantic weekend for my husband's 50th birthday.
Large Royan house in a quiet street, very close to the sea and the customs path.
The decoration is full of charm, a thousand and one discoveries for the eyes.
The bedding is comfortable, and the breakfast is a delight.
Great hospitality from Elisabeth and her husband.

The owners of this guest house are very welcoming. The breakfast taken outside is plentiful and very pleasant. Excellent location close to everything (beach, shops, restaurants, market), and yet very quiet. You can do everything on foot.
