Passing through St Margaret's at cliffs near Dover we came across this pub/restaurant /hotel and thought it looked nice..I hour early for our ferry back to France a pint by the fire was what we wanted...and it did just that..

Had coffee twice outside in the Autumn sunshine, then a cold November in Walmer and remembered this for lunch. Excellent. Greeted by a fire; background chatter but not noisy. Gibbs from a barrel. Good sandwiches; rest of menu looked good.

We had a delicious, unusual - in the best sense, reasonably priced meal with some very palatable wine. It was a freezing night so the blazing fire was a treat.The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed although I could have done without the background music.
