My family and I stayed here on June 20. We were coming from the Giostra del Saracino in Arezzo back to our base in Alba Adriatica, and decided fairly late to stay overnight rather than do the 3 hour drive through the mountains after the Giostra ended at midnight. Since lodgings in Arezzo were pretty well filled up, we decided to drive back to Passignano before stopping. We liked Hotel Darsena, but the problem was that we would be arriving at 1 AM and their office closes at 11:30 PM. We contacted the hotel by email, and received a very nice reply in English from Sasha. She agreed to give us our room key on Saturday morning as we passed through Passignano on the way to our day's activities. We came in at 1 AM and reached our room quietly. The facilities were nice and clean, and in the morning the staff laid out one of the finest free continental breakfasts I've ever seen, with salami, two cheese wheels, yogurt, cereal, croissants, bread, pastries, two kinds of juice and coffee. We explored the beautiful Lake Trasimeno in the morning, and headed back to Alba in the afternoon. We were very pleased with our stay and the value we received for our money.…
La Darsena on Lake Trasimeno is a good base to explore the area, but you definitely need a car, it’s a good walk into Passignano. Also we went in the beginning of October and we were bit all over by the ‘zanzari’, take insect repellent/joss sticks, whatever you need to keep’em away! July and August must be horrendous. You get a view of the lake from the balcony, but only just………..it’s further than you think. Also, the railway runs in front of the hotel and the motorway to Perugia runs behind it so you are sandwhiched between the two. We flew to Pisa and did a tour around Tuscany and Umbria so La Darsena was a good base further south to enable us to visit Montipulciano, Siena, San Gimignano, Perugia and the Termes (a must). The hotel staff were very friendly and the food was traditional……..would I stay again? Maybe…….. It would be ok as a base for exploring the area for a couple of nights.…
what a great place to stay and enjoy all the cultural and historical towns in the surrounding area we found the hotel to be extremely clean and comfortable lift to all floors and exceptional personal service. Excellent restaurant providing quality food and wine at very reasonable prices for the area where it is situated and should you just want to relax there is a swimming pool and roof top solarium. Situated on beautiful lake Trasimeno you are near ancient towns of passignano, tuoro, and castigllieano. Just a great place to stay, will definatley be staying there again
Situated between a busy motorway, a busy road and a railway line doesn't exactly inspire you on arrival but we heard no noise from the roads and only the occasional train which seemed to stop at night. However I would ask for a lake facing room away from the traffic. Distant view of the lake. Nice swimming pool and garden area. Small grocery shop 500 metres away. Food good., room quite small. Clean and tidy. DO NOT leave windows open when you go for dinner, our friends next door were invaded by mosquitoes when they came back from the restaurant, they had forgotten to pull down the insect screen and left the light on. They had to spray the room, then vacuum up the thousands of bugs from the carpets, beds and clothes. Large rustic restaurant with outside terrace. Friendly staff.
Plus points: - friendly staff, speaks english - good restaurant - OK breakfast Minus points: - smelly rooms (damp smell) - bad beds - train passes by room window - nothing to see or do in the vicinity
