We were here yesterday, didn’t stay the night but were here for the wines. We had a semisweet yellow muscat and a forditas. They were very lovely wines, and this place is definitely worth a visit when you are in the Tokaj area :)
Nagyon jól éreztük magunkat az itt töltött 4 nap alatt. Remek szállás, kiváló házigazdákkal. Boriskát és a cicákat kifejezetten imádtuk. A ház Tokaj központjában, a sétálóutcától néhány lépésre található, mégis csendes pihenést biztosít. A reggelik finomak és változatosak. A borok isteniek. Reméljük még visszatérhetünk. Köszönjük! We had a great time in the 4 days spent here. Great accommodations, great hosts. Boriska and cats were specially worshiped. The house is located in the center of Tokaj, a few steps from the pedestrian street, yet it offers quiet relaxation. Breakfast is delicious and varied. The wines are divine. We hope we can go back again. Thank You!
We arrived in Tokaj and had no trouble finding Paulay's Borhaz on the older side of town. But our host, Peter, was not there when we arrived. We did a little Tokaj wine shopping while we waited half an hour for him to return. I was worried that our room would not be ready, but I worried in vain. Peter speaks excellent English. Peter showed us to our room, one of eight in the house. The bed was large and comfortable, the room and bathroom were very clean. Peter showed us how to adjust the temperature in the room with the remote. He supplied an extra towel and shampoo and invited us to the wine cellar for a complimentary tasting of some of the local white wines. That was fun and very tasty. We met some other guests in the common areas outside and in the well equipped kitchen. I was surprised that Peter's garden was still so productive with tomatoes and peppers so late in the season. There were many plants, flowers and trees that enhanced the garden and made it a pleasure to be outside. When we were ready to leave, Peter insisted on taking us to the train station and refused to let us pay for the trip. It was well worth waiting for him!…
We were fortunate to recently spend three days in Tokaj after a River Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Tokaj is a little village in the wine growing area of Hungary. A very quite and quaint village, perfect to slow down and watch the day go by. We stayed at The Paulay Winehouse, our host Peter was very good. Not only does he run the accommodation but is also a winemaker. so you have the ability to taste some of his wines in his cellar. We really enjoyed our time in Tokaj, travelling by train was easy and the village is very friendly.
I hope I've got the right place. We stayed in Sep. 2016, but my review seems to've disappeared and I recall the owner as Peter, not Paul; and we never saw Linda. But everything was as good as was promised. My only critique was that the room lacked at nightstand. We managed to squeeze a chair in between the beds for a makeshift solution, but I would've preferred no closet (we didn't use it) and more room, and a nightstand. Everything else was top-notch, including the breakfasts. Quiet, perfect location, helpful owner. When I discovered that I'd neglected to print out a boarding pass, Peter kindly allowed me to use his PC and printer to do so. Thanks! Recommended!
husband and i stayed 2 nights and were very pleased with our room and guest areas, especially the lovely garden. Paul was amazing and very knowledgeable about the Tokaj area. We wine tasted his own wines and thought they were so good we bought a couple of bottles for the rest of our trip. We arrived in Tokaj having never been to that area before but are wine lovers and wanted to see this lovely wine country. Paul gave us great recommendations for local wineries including Himesudvar, Rakoczi Cellar, and of course his own wonderful wines. We drove to Disznoko winery and ate at SÁRGA BORHÁZ Restaurant, which was probably the best meal of the trip. Our room was comfortable and had a private bath. the kitchen was shared with a very sweet Czech family with two teenagers who were delightful. we spent some time one evening with them wine tasting Paul's wines. I would recommend Paulay Borhaz and make sure you taste his wine and visit his wine cellar. Enjoy!…
I really recommend it. Great location (5 minutes from the central square, but a bit away from the main street), beautiful building with cosy, air-conditioned rooms. Kitchen available for quests. Very friendly owner. He has his own cellar, so wine tasting possible. Do come here, it is worth it!
The clean, light--filled, nicely furnished guest rooms are built over the wine cellar of this family home. Each room has an en-suite bathroom, and we made use of the communal kitchen which looks out over the garden. The property is very well kept and also well situated for strolling into the town of Tokaj, where we found various restaurant choices, wine cellars, and an excellent coffee shop. On arrival, we were met by owner and winemaker Peter, who gave us a tasting of his wines - all excellent. Peter also provided a delicious and generous breakfast each morning, served in the wine cellar. Using the guest house as a base, we drove throughout the Tokaj region, concluding that none of the other lodging options nearby would have given us the same comfort plus range of walking distance dining choices. I have no hesitation in recommending Paulay Vendeghaz. Thank you Peter for a great stay.…
We stayed only one night, but all the four of us were completely satisfied. We stayed in the apartment. The rooms and the bathroom were nice and very clean. There is also a common kitchen, so the guests can prepare things for themselves. The guestrooms are in the mansard, the owners live below and in the basement there is a wine cellar. All the wines are very tasty! I recommend tasting the Arborétum Cuvée, which is a special sweet, white wine, made from grape species, which survived the Phylloxera attack. (In the second half of the 19th century more than half of the Hungarian vineyards were destroyed by the Phylloxera.) The breakfast was tasty and we had big portions, it was served in the wine cellar.
I stayed for 6 nights. The room was clean and with private bathroom and shower. Linda(the owner) is dedicated and keen to make the stay of the guests great. The breakfasts she made were extremely delicious and different every day! The wines in Paulay Borház are as good as the hosts. They have their own characters and are worth tasting/drinking. Highly recommend place to go and stay!
