I made a reservation today in Hotel Kelep for 2 nights - May 3rd to May 5th. When I arrived at 21:30 the hotel was closed. I rang to the door but nobody opened it, so I called by phone. The representative from the hotel informed me that the hotel is closed, and since I am the only guest it is not worth it for them to open the hotel and heat it up just for me. Nobody will come to open the hotel even that I received a confirmation for my reservation. I was informed in the reservation confirmation that I'll be charge 50% after making reservation and that if I do not show up at the hotel at all, then i will be charged for the full reservation amount. This is absolutely ridiculous - I am a professional driver and I was planning on resting at the hotel after a day of work just to find out, that the hotel will most likely take my money and not even care to open let me inside. If I find out that my card/account has been charged or if the hotel decides to cause me any further trouble, then I will be sure to take legal action against it to the fullest extent. Absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. Furthermore, because of the 22.00 curfew in Hungary, I am now forced to wander around illegally and look for a place to stay. I'll make sure Booking will be informed about this as well.…
Liked: Plenty of packing space, cleanliness, friendly interior, children's corner, garden, small wellness, calm nights, nice staff, free parking, free wifi, large balcony, pre-arranged private wellness (COVID-19 conform :) ). Disliked / suggested: Some parts of the furniture were worn out (eg. door of the shower cannot be closed). Bed is too soft for me. A small room safe would be handful.
This is a slightly soulless but clean and spacious hotel located a 20 minute walk from the town centre. Secure parking is available onsite (for small additional cost) alongside free parking. Bikes and 4 person bike “carriages” are available to propel yourself into the town centre. The hotel does cater for children with a dedicated play area but otherwise appears to be more of a business traveller type hotel. Breakfast is good - buffet style but with typical Hungarian cold meats and cheese. Coffee machine is good! There is a great traditional / authentic Hungarian restaurant (Horgony/Anchor) on the walk back from Tokaj town centre. We didn’t try the spa facilities on site but they are available. Rooms are clean, spacious and totally acceptable but not worth the last minute booking price we paid.…
Went to Hotel Kelep because it was walking distance to a concert we were seeing. Hotel looks plain but it has mostly what you need. The room was clean. The mattress comfortable. A/C worked good. There is a balcony and a TV. Has an elevator. Room has a mini fridge that was stuffed to the brim with their mini bar items. There are enough outlets around the room. The bathroom is one area that needs updating. It is small. The shower head is not hung correctly. You have to hold the shower spray with one hand at all times, or no water hits you. There was no hair dryer. Towels are quite small, more like dish towel size. The room Comes with breakfast. It is a typical hungarian breakfast. Cold cuts, cheeses, cukes, peppers, tomatoes, yogurt, fruit, coffee maker, juices, breads, etc. it also had scrambled eggs. Food was acceptable. The hotel has a sauna and jacuzzi, but the jacuzzi was not working that day. There is also a tiny exercise room. You can get an hour massage for around $25. The lobby has a coffee bar. The hotel was quiet. There are games and a playgym in the yard, so it seems to be good for families. There is limited free parking in front and pay parking in the rear. Overall it is a no frills hotel, and was acceptable for overnight.…
Our room was huge: it had the size of a suite, with quality interior, decor, bed and facilities. Great plus. Cleanliness, breakfast were also a bonus. Great that the hotel has several entrances making it easier to move across the different wings. Helpful and kind staff. The hotel is around 20 mins walk from the downtown of Tokaj. Wellness facilities are OK, although upon our Friday late afternoon arrival none of the facilities (neither jacuzzi nor sauna) were on operational temperature therefore none of them could be used for several hours. Fridge in room was the same. We had to choose walking downtown instead. Fitness equipment require service and maintenance. I think this could be easily solved in the future by preparing rooms and for the arrival of the guests on due time and despite these nuisances I can recommend the hotel for stay.…
Hotel Kelep is a comfortable and well-shaped hotel. The prizes are not too expensive. However, there are some unpleasent element in the accomodation and in the service. The light in the room is poor, it is necessary more lamps on the ceiling for the corresponding room illumination. In some place the wall is moldy. Another unfriendly moment was that the waiter couldn't provide in time the warm dishes for smorgasbord-type catering. And finaly, at the paying process we received the correct bill just after a while because the young receptionist couldn't know some necessary information related to hotel prizes.
This was our second stay at the Kelep and we were not disappointed... Given the sparse choice of decent accomodation in Tokaj you could certainly do worse than spend the night here. We had a large corner room which was relaxing, modern and warm as the weather turned on us.. Super comfortable beds and a decent restaurant serving very good beer made for a nice break after a day on the road..Breakfast was a bit dodgy as the scrambled eggs made to order were cooked in lard rather than butter... This made for an interesting morning of driving as they slipped out and easily as they had slipped in.. If you are travelling with a dog forget the luxury hotels in Tarcal.. They will not let you in...But ours was a welcome guest at the Kelep.. Bravo!. The only problem was the weak wifi in the annex where we had our room.. We had to go to the bar area to use our email...…
Hotel Kelep is a nice, clean and calm hotel with a bite of a wellness section. I was fully satisfied with the room, and the meals, everything was delicious. But the best thing in this hotel was the staff. They were friendly, always helpful, they were the soul of the hotel.
After having stayed down the road the Kelep was not the lap of luxury that that the Andrassy was but it is perfectly acceptable and half the price of the 5 star. We arrived at 3:pm ( CUT OFF FOR LUNCH SERVICE THERE) but the staff took pity on us and cooked us a nice meal which we ate outside in the garden.. The food is decent .I thought the pork and chicken cooked in a Tokaj wine sauce was pretty tasty.. A cold glass of draft beer was nice too. The back garden is a little rough looking and could use some landscaping but its nice to sit out there on a sunny day. The Kelep is located on a rather busy road and its not really the most picturesque part of Tokaj but once inside you its a relaxing place with a friendly staff. On the night we were there there was a gathering of Jaguar car enthusiasts who had fully booked the hotel... They were noisy but once in our room it was pretty quiet.. It's about a 20 minute walk to the center of Tokaj if you want to eat and drink and avoid driving. Hungary has a 0 tolerance for ANY alcohol in your system... We had a good dinner at The Bonchidai Czarda along the river..( see my review) One of my pet peeves is the complete lack of any sort of English language news channels in so many hotels in Hungary.. What's the deal? How much could it cost to get CNN or BBC????…
On arrival we found our booking, made five months previously was not showing on their reservation system. Took a while to get a room. While to be fair the rooms were very clean and comfortable the air conditioning did not function at all. The double glazed units had not been fitted well as you could hear ever vehicle that passed and there were many throughout the night. As for the breakfast they were just having a laugh. No Coffee available and you could stir a teabag in the water for tea using your finger it was that tepid. As its a long way from the centre of Tokai along a very noisy dirty road stay somewhere else -
