Excellent food, friendly service. Great choice for vegetarians. Very good selection of wine. Pleasant atmosphere with exciting paintings . We could get a table without reservation in the rush hour. Good location , easy to find on the walking street.
As a wine lover, a visit to Tokaj is a must. Me and a friend arrived late afternoon to Tokaj and checked into Toldi Fogado, a middle size Inn, very central located in Tokaj. We were friendly greeted and got a spacious room with very comfortable beds, TV, free wifi and a good bathroom. The hotel has a small pool and a wellness department. We had a nice and good dinner outside with a delicious white wine from the area. Both of us went for catfish, I ordered grilled and my friend deepfried. As side dishes we had a tomato salad and the spicy Hungarian Bell peppers. Everything was great except all mosquitos, they were impossible and left us with several bites. Breakfast was served between 07.00 and 10.00 am in the restaurant. Cold cut, lot's of different bread, scrambled eggs and sausages. An all over pleasant stay.…
If you're looking for some place to stay that's comfortable, has a restaurant and spa and offers affordable prices - then look no further than Toldi Fogado! The owner couldn't be nicer, the staff very polite and accommodating, and of course the generous amenities that you'll find here are not to be beat. What is most noteworthy about the rooms, are not just the comfort and cleanliness, but the fact that they have carpeting which is a really nice change for any westerner abroad in Europe, as carpeting is rather scarce here. I would highly recommend this place to people who are on a budget, and who are looking for a place to relax while in the famous wine region of Tokaj! Conveniently located in the heart of the city center, there are more than plenty of great wine cellars nearby, and if you don't even want to leave the hotel to partake in some adult beverages, the restaurant has a long list of Tokaj wines to choose from! Don't miss out on spending some time at the spa, as it's not only relaxing but beautifully designed as well. Fully equipped with a large swimming pool, jacuzzi and gorgeous sauna, it's ideal for any type of traveler, looking to rest after a long day!…
Best part of the Toldi Inn is the location, which cannot be beat for walking around the center of Tokaj! Decent rooms, good breakfast, traditional small seating area in the bar for dinners... and the second best part is an indoor pool with loads of natural light. Loved that. We stayed as part of a group bicycle tour.
We spent three nights in this hotel. We had one of their best rooms with balcony and view to the Tisza. The room wasn’t particularly clean. One of the air conditioner wasn’t working at all. When we reported that, nothing happened. Precisely next to the balcony, there is a street lamp on the wall. So all of the bugs and spiders was swarming the hole night in the balcony. I counted more than 20 spiders on the first night. The staff wasn’t nice. The breakfast was ok, but they didn’t have normal coffee (just Nescafe). The hotel’s restaurant is expensive and bad. They open after 11 and before that you are not able to drink a normal coffee in the hotel. The swimming pool is nice, but for little children is too deep.
We just have had a short stay in the hotel in the largest apartmenteith a large balcony. It has a perfect location right in the city center. Free parking. Wellness services are excellent. The quality of the apartment was acceptable. The restaurant offers plenty of really tasty Hungarian dishes. I do recommend it for a shorter or a longer stay as well
Pros: 1) good location in Tokai 2) swimming pool and sauna 3) comfortable room and bed 4) parking next to the hotel Cons: 1) poor and loud air condition in the room 2) dark bathroom 3) poor ventilation in the breakfast restaurant 4) average breakfasts and poor cofee from concentrate 5) restaurant open till 9 p.m.
How to improve the gray gloomy day? Try good food and wine. Restaurant Toldi was a good choice after city walking which was interesting but weather was cold and humid. Tokaj lies at the river Bodrog and Tisza confluence and you can taste fresh fish dishes. Very tasty fisherman’s soup "halaszlé" prepared for several ways - with catfish from the Tisza, with carp from the Tisza, with different kinds of fish from the Tisza, Drunkard Fisherman's soup with catfish from Tokaj and soup with fish from the Tisza, with large noodles and sour-cream were served in pot and with white bread. We have little problem to eat next meals after huge portions of soup. But fattened duck liver with duck cracklings and mashed potatoes with onion or confited duck leg with steamed cabbage and mashed potatoes with onion were big challenge. Lighter choice were pancakes with cottage cheese and with vanilla sauce. World famous wines Tokaj were excellent point of our lunch.…
We spent 3 days in Tokaj and I booked this inn after a long research. We went there at end of August so the pool was important for me, anyway the wellness part is always one of my best used in each hotel. For my Dad the food was important, so I booked a Tokaj wine pack, with 2 nights, wine-tasting in the restaurant and in other winery, and half-board with full breakfast and dinner. We stayed in one room so with 2 double bed they offered a spacious room in the older part of the hotel. The newer part is more modern with elevator, the older part has no lift, however rooms are bigger. But to reach it we had to go through a dark little corridor next to the restaurant staff entrance, so it was not any privacy and always smelled food. The room was very nice indeed, but with very old fashioned door/door key and the bathroom... Well, I have seen better bathrooms in poorer hotels in my life... Everything was the simplest from the 60-70,s, without the basic equipment (soap, hairdryer, etc) but at least clean. Bathrobes were ridiculous, 2 different size and colour, material on wire-hangers. Room was comfortable by the way, but without air-condition which is only in the new part of the hotel. Wifi worked well in the hotel, but to step out from there it stopped. There is no smoking area separated, so smokers have to go out of the hotel, or at dinner time there is a small outdoor space with few tables. The spa and wellness part was OK, but extremely far from us, indeed in the very other edge of the hotel. It is not overrated by me at all, but was OK for 2 days, with pool, sauna, salt -room and Jacuzzi. Their intercontinental breakfast contained only a few choices, and the very same next morning, too. Restaurant closed at 10am, and when I wanted to have a cup of coffee at 5 minutes past 10, the coffee machine was already stopped to work! As for the dinner... Well, it was again something ridiculous. I was told though that the dinner is from menu card, which is OK, but that menu card contained 5 soups and 5 other choices, on a laminated sheet what I can see in roadside buffets!!! Coupons were given to us at the reception for each day to use it for the dinner and wine-taste and give it to the waiter!!! Also in the restaurant we have been told, that we can choose from the restaurant full menu, and they use our coupons for a fixed price (HUF6000), everything above that HUF6000 we can pay ourselves. Of course this was the best option, as to see the laminated menu made me feel very annoyed. Despite of this I CAN NOT tell that they had such a rich menu, and specially for vegetarians which I am. Desserts were fine, but nothing special, and the whipped cream on my ice-cream was watered-down and tasteless. For 2 evenings I could choose something to eat, but nothing special. In addition, the prices are high, portions are small with big decoration. At first evening when we sat down at a table, the tablecloth was dirty and spotted, they do not use textile napkin either, so only some cheap paper napkin we used having dinner. I think those 2 nights were enough in the hotel. I can not imagine other hotels, inns in the area, as when I researched for long days, this one seemed the best option in Tokaj, there was a castle hotel a little bit away, but we wanted to stay in the town. When we looked around in the town I saw other hotels outside and they looked very worn and retro, so in any case Toldi Inn was a better choice. But based on the price they have (not cheap, as we can stay in 4 star hotels cheaper), and on the fact they serve lots of tourists from the country and abroad, and their business built on tourism, they really have to provide better service. They should improve many things to be competitive and to get returning guests as well. I should say for the same price there are better choices in the area, but not in the town. If someone does not mind to drive a little bit, better to stay out of the city. It is OK to stay 1-2 nights without any expectations, but be prepared that their price is for tourists. The staff was very friendly and helpful by the way, but as far as I see they were not too many, as sometimes I saw the receptionist helped in the kitchen, but I can not say anything bad about the staffs, they are really great and very helpful. In summary it was OK for a short while, specially that we spend more time out of the hotel. But if someone needs more comfort and choice, better to look around in the near area.…
