Excellent hostel with cozy common areas. Kitchen is spacious and always clean and you have everything you need in it. Dorms are tidy and comfortable. Lovely people running the hostel and the athmosphere is very relaxed! Easy access to Tongariro Crossing, daily shuttles leave nearby for $45 return.

We were advised to stay at Extreme Backpackers by the local i-SITE and we did not regret it. The hostel and especially the inner courtyard is lovely, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The owner is a very friendly and welcoming guy. We could even hang out with fellow travellers, whom we met in the hostel.

A simply fantastic hostel, really appreciated having facilities so clean- although one minor sticking point was having only one towel hanging up for hand drying in the gent's toilets. Otherwise, everything was far above the usual hostel standard. The puzzle in the common room was a bit hard, wasted like three hours trying to put it together but i guess...

The Extreme Backpackers stay was perfect for our time in Turangi, doing the crossing and white water rafting! Turangi is a small town and this little gem holds a lot of warm / inviting people. The rooms were clean and well kept, the facilities were clean and the kitchen is huge. We had a group dinner with about 10 people...

We really enjoyed our stay here until the last day when we were told that we hadn't paid for one of our nights accommodation. We had paid in cash for one of our nights but the hostel didn't remember taking our money and hadn't given us a receipt. It wasn't nice being accused of not paying when we did. Anyway,...

Nice and tidy, visited in September 2016. The room was basic but comfortable, the ensuite shower was great, the staff/owners were friendly and helpful, the kitchen was well set up and equipped and the lounge was tidy - what more could you want - would happily stay again.

I've been back a few times and it's always a pleasure. The owners are lovely. Decent wifi and facilities. Lots of communal space; comfy lounge, spacious dining and courtyard. Good location for Tongariro crossing and they will organise shuttle if you need.

I booked this hostel very last minute, because I only had a very brief window to do the Tongaririo crossing. I must of called a handful of times to ask questions, all the where, what, how's. When I got to the hostel at 1:00 am, the key was left under the mat where they said it would be, there were...
