Albergo Mangusta is sure to make your visit to Madesimo one worth remembering.
My wife and I spent 8 nights at the Albergo Mangusta in Isola, Italy which lies between Madesimo and Campodolcino. Isola is a very small village with little services, but the great value and the incredible staff of Albergo Mangusta will make you want to stay there and come back. Mangusta is owned and operated by sisters Ebe and Olga. Immediately they make you feel like family and take pride in their hotel. Cleanliness is taken to a different level there. Accommodations are simple but effective and rates are quite reasonable given its location in the heart of ski country. Mangusta has a restaurant, and there is only one other restaurant in Isola, but each operates outside of the winter months. However, Campodolcino, Pianazzo and Madesimo have excellent restaurants, and it takes about 10 minutes to drive to either. Remember that these are alpine roads which requires some patience. From Mangusta views of the mountains and the small lake in Isola are beautiful. During snow season the big hill next to Mangusta is snow covered and the locals really enjoy sledding down the hill. Serious skiing in Madesimo or Campodolcino is 10 minutes or so away. Caution: parking in Madesimo is a serious issue, particularly on weekends. We really enjoyed our stay at Mangusta and look forward to the next trip there.…
We chose this hotel because we wanted to ski in Madesimo. Unfortunately (but as announced) we were the last ones to check in at night and there had been a misunderstanding with other customers in the afternoon, so they ended up with our room and theirs was the only one available when we arrived, which was not really suitable for a couple with a kid (bunk beds). Anyhow...the room was tidy and warm, the staff friendly and hospitable. We had dinner there and it was simple, genuine and good, and we liked the mountain chalet atmosphere eating with the other people by the fireplace. Boardgames and cardgames are available for everyone to socialize. Don't expect a 4 star, but a cosy, family place.
Isola was the end of our 3rd day Via Spluga hike from Splugen (Switzerland) to Isola (Italy). We didn't expect much of this hotel being in a small and remote village like Isola, but it was surprisingly good. The rooms are quite modern and clean, and the staff was friendly and patient to the fact the we don't speak italian or german, and thet don't speak english (thank god for google translate :) ). The hotel's restaurant have no fixed menu, they just suggest dishes they can make from whatever they have in the kitchen. It was also nice to switch from Swiss prices to Italian prices (hugh difference).
