Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As an exiled Salopian, my family and I came to stay for a couple of nights during the last year and very impressed by Peter and his Team’s welcome and hospitality. The cooked breakfast was the best I’ve ever had and instead of venturing into Bridgnorth for a meal with my sister and her family they came and joined us for dinner at The Halfway House 😊. Homely surroundings in the bar to catch up in and comfy room for us with delightful 18th Century prints - keep up the good work and likely to return 😁.

Great range of accommodation at competitive prices. Converted 16th century stables with what looked like original beams; so expect rural authenticity not pampered pristine especially as we stayed towards end of busy season. Great rural setting yet close to Bridgnorth and other intended destinations in Shropshire/Staffordshire. Very helpful owners - they even sent on left belongings - and welcoming environment. Schedule too short/busy to eat on site but food choice and quality looked good from what we saw. Clearly appreciated by locals. Would suggest booking direct.

Stayed for a night in a camper van at the campsite behind the pub. Placed in a level plot near the toilet block. Next bay was covered in a tipper load of tarmac waste. Toilet block had one toilet not cleaned and no working light. Grass needed trimming. Feels like a traveller site. Two caravans were in front of us, I think long term but anyway about 6 men sat around a campfire very noisy until nearly midnight so not good. Pub itself is characterful but run down. Great locals in there, decent pint and food acceptable from a very limited menu. Final disappointment was being charged for our ‘caravan’ £32 for one night, despite also eating and drinking there. Sadly a total rip off. Avoid.

We were part of a wedding party staying at the Inn. Peter the owner makes the place fantastic, knowing everyone by name and going above and beyond for any requests you may have (we had a newborn with us so had a few!). We had dinner in the bar and it was delicious, there was a good selection of wine, gin and whisky too. Our room was clean and cozy and had everything we needed considering it was such an old building/Inn. Thanks a lot Peter & team! Holly & Daniel

Stopped on way back from Rays Farm for something to eat with 3 over excited children in tow. It was so quiet (and the children so loud) but they were so understanding and accommodating and put the TV on for the kids so we could enjoy our meal which was amazing, we got to try both the chicken and lamb curry from new limited winter menu and both were superb, lamb was favourite. Have zero complaints. Lovely cosy little pub run by lovely people. Will come back (probably not with so many kids lol!)

A birthday treat for my wife, but failed to live up to expectations. The Sunday lunch was adequate, although lumpy mash and they take al dente to the max as far as the veg was concerned. We didn’t eat the deserts, they really weren’t nice at all. Pricey for what it was.

We stayed at this Inn the year before the pandemic for 2 nights .We were on a house viewing visit. Matthew looked after us from start to finish. We stayed in a coach house which was looking a little tired but it was OK. We also had our very well behaved & clean little dogs with us. We eat in the pub and had a nice time. We said would visit again & we did. We decided if a coach house was avaliable August 2021 we would have a 1 night stay on our way up to North Yorkshire & a 1 night stay on our way home. SEPTEMBER 2021. I rang, asked for Matthew but unfortunately he wasn't available & his Dad Peter took the call. As requested I sent an email quite clearly stating I required a coach house for 2 , 1 night overnight stays for our Yorkshire journeys. Peter assured me he could accommodate us. So the day comes & we arrive. Peter then tells me he doesn't allow 1 night stays in the coach houses & we would have to stay in a "room" with all the facilities we would need. I was surprised as Peter had assured me he could fulfill our email requirements. Fine I said ( thinking all would be well.) He showed me into what I can only describe as a big shed. It stank, the carpet was fithy dirty, mould in the shower think you get the picture. Talking of pictures don't think the pictures on the website resemble anywhere near as bright and clean as what you actually get. We decided to keep quiet as it was Bank Holiday & only 1 night. My husband then picked up the kettle, it was green inside!! It all became just too much. I took the kettle to the the pub & unfortunately Peter wasn't there. I asked if they had any better accomodation as we were not used to such as they had given us. We live in a nice clean house. I also asked for 2 teas. And a different kettle. The one I was given was just the same. Green inside!! Eventually Peter came and rather than ask what he could do to put things right as any normal person working in the service industry would do, he accused me of being rude to his staff & said we had to leave. So this now obviously obnoxious little man decided the best thing was to order a 65yrs old woman with disabilities & a 77 yrs old man with a pacemaker & other health problems on a bank holiday to leave. I refused & held him to account. I also reminded him He had assured me our accomodation would be a coach house. He then relented a little & said we could have one. He took me to it, opened the door, shut it quickly saying..We couldn't have it because it hadn't been cleaned. All this was late afternoon. He then went on to say he'd send a cleaner round to our "room" He just didn't get it. You would need a builder doing a complete refurbishment to make the " room" anywhere near acceptable ( to our standards) So we didn't have a choice but to stay the night. It felt very unpleasant. We had booked dinner in the pub & looking forward to a very enjoyable meal as we had, had last visit. The potatoes were hard in the middle, peas like bullets, my Salmon was fine but my husbands was hard in places. Profiteroles were delicious. We were somewhat surprised as our meals on our previous visit had been excellent. BREAKFAST. A very nice good morning welcome from the staff. We both had poached eggs on toast. The toast had hardly seen the toaster which is not my idea of a nice piece of toast. I waited for our extra toast which came out the same. I did ask if it was possible to be toasted a little more. I needed to eat. Just before we had finished breakfast Peter appeared in the bar with shall I say a defensive look on his face, came over to me produced our bill and announced he wanted us to pay. (I smiled as I thought...did he seriously think we were going to do a runner like some kind of naughty teenagers! At our age we can hardly go faster than a snails pace!) NOTE. He never said a word to my husband. We finished breakfast & I went to pay the bill. I was told that there would be no accomodation for us the following week on our return journey as we were not "on the same wave length..too true!! "!!! What planet is this man on. So the moral of this factual tale is before you part with your hard earned cash. Make sure you are "ON THE SAME WAVE LENGTH " otherwise you could be asked to leave. What a disgusting way to treat paying customers let alone 2 pensioners with disabilities. Dont be fooled ,all he wants is your money on his terms. !! Oh and the bill in case you're wondering. For the privilege of A 1night stay in a shed , treated in a very unwelcoming way, plus a bad meal.. a few pence over £142.00 SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE..
