A resort that caters mainly to Dutch speaking people as most staff felt quite uncomfortable to speak English if they had some proficiency.
Website not set up for booking 2 nights. One has to make 2 separate reservations. They called us even to check if we did not make a mistake.
Reception staff mostly could communicate in English. Friendly check-in. Luggage was stored ( and reappeared in our room) as we were early to already enjoy the wellness areas. Happy with al the sauna's etc. The aufguss sessions at the Kelo sauna were nice. Some equipment was not working. I mention one of the infra red sauna booths and several showers in the scrub area.
Poterne restaurant not quite ready yet for a bib gourmand. Service slow esp. on the second night. Food fine although deserts somewhat disappointing. The gentleman who served us 2 nights did a fine job.
Breakfast has several a la carte options. Like eggs and pancakes.Buffet fine for clientele but should be expanded for International guests. Features prosecco and smoked salmon though and a few local products like jam and cheese.
We had requested twin beds and they came with appalling faux mattresses. Thin and not proper mattresses. Room nr 6 spacious and all in order with non descriptive design but not dated (yet).
What is it with no staff members wearing name tags. It is beyond me. It is now impossible to compliment some one, although Dutch culture is not into compliments.
We had tipped our waiter but we found out at check-out that tips given are divided to ALL the staff. That certainly beats the objective. Probably better to give cash which we inquired about. One receptionist said they do cash pay outs to guests but next morning other, not so nice, receptionist said we don't do pay outs. She also starting lecturing us about the fact that the dongle watch had to be reloaded. As we were staying 2 nights.

The listing for Fort Resort Beemster on Booking.com is very inviting. The impression is that you’re booking hotel accommodation together with beautiful spa facilities … only to find out when you make direct contact with the hotel that there is one requirement, of which no mention is made in the listing – no bathing suits are allowed at the spa! (except for 1 day of the month). Very annoying that it wasn’t mentioned as this is not suitable for all guests. Having said that, the spa is very nicely laid out with a number of options and our hotel stay was very enjoyable.

The Fort is only about half an hour from Amsterdam by train or bus to Purmerend. From there the easiest is to take a taxi.

The rooms are spacious and very clean but the décor is uninteresting and dated. Mattresses are quite soft.

The selection at breakfast was fairly limited but always fresh, served in the attractive Poterne Restaurant area and service was always polite.

We found the 4-course dinner at the restaurant to be quite pricey but it is also possible to order a la carte or eat in the spa area.

Somewhat old, rickety bikes are available for free use by guests. We enjoyed having them on site. Worth visiting in the area - Edam and Monnickendam as well as De Rijp, which was particularly charming, elegant and un-touristy. Vollendam is more touristy. Alkmaar was also worth visiting which we did by local bus.

All in all would recommend a stay at the resort.

We had a fantastic time. We stayed at the hotel and really enjoyed our room , in fact we wished we had stayed longer. The real highlight though was the spa. There was a great range of pools, hot tubs, saunas etc which meant we spent almost two days there and would have been happy to been there a few more days. Also great to have both indoor and outdoor options - we were very lucky the weather was relatively warm for March and being able to lie outside after the sauna infusions was really good.
Definitely recommend this for anyone just to enjoy the spa or to have great weekend for two. We came straight from an overnight flight from Vancouver so this was a perfect way for us to recuperate afterwards.

We only stayed one night but it was such a great relaxing end to our vacation I would have liked some more time to explore the grounds and local community. The jungle sauna was a favourite as were the two salt pools. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Close enough to Amsterdam that most were day visitors, so massages etc. need to be booked in advance. Staff were great, and our room had a really nice walk out but some chairs outside would have been appreciated.

A great spa and lovely hotel with beautiful area around.
What we liked:
- helpful and friendly staff. Especially reception and restaurant
- modern design, a lot of wood and very stylish hotel
- spa complex is huge, well maintained and clean. You can easily spend the whole day there.
- dinner at Poterne restaurant was amazing: food presentation , service, atmosphere - all was great. We really enjoyed it.
- breakfast is good including a small a la carte menu, but it’s the same every day, so after 2 days it will be difficult to eat the same things. Can be more veggies to be added like avocado, bell pepper etc. Coffee was very good.

What we didn’t like:
- there is no information in English or German, everything everywhere in Dutch only
- the hotel room has a bit of smell, like it doesn’t dry properly, so it was the smell of dampness
- they serve plastic straws, that’s not cool. It’s paper or metal straws almost everywhere these days.
- Food in spa restaurant was not good, especially burger. Meat was from supermarket and cooked to well done :(
- People were breaking rules in spa, for example with limitation of 2 ppl in jacuzzi, it will be 4 or in sauna it says 8, but will be 12 and nobody controls or checks it. So it’s disappointing. Also people were wearing flip flops inside sauna and even step on bench wearing them and again nobody checks and fixes such rules violation.

We have been doing various short trips in the Netherlands this summer during our vacation, and this stay we were much looking forward to. We had namely booked the Romantic Enjoyment package at Fort Resort Beemster, which included amongst others (quote) a bottle of sparkling, a bubble bath with attractive candles, rose petals on the bed, and breakfast served in the room. What a treat this would be!

Well, we stayed in suite no 7. Upon entering the room, it was like entering a shower or steam room. Very moist smell and feeling. (Another reviewer also mentioned this) It is of course an old fort/ bunker, but still, either they could invest in proper airco, or prior to our arrival, the small windows of the suite could have been left open, to get refresher air in the suite.

The suite was clean and spacious, but quite dark, having only two small windows. If you look on their webpages, you might assume the rooms have openable double-doors towards the small channel. In this suite that was not the case though. There was also no door to the bathroom/ toilet area.

Well, we decided to hit the spa, to get out of the moist room. Good to be aware about is that people are fully naked everywhere, mixed in dressing rooms, saunas, in the pools, and laying in the grass outside. From the wellness restaurant you will also be able to spot nude people outside, so good to be aware of, if you are from a more modest culture.

In the evening the bath had been prepared for us in the suite, a bottle of sparkling brought in, and rose petals put on the bed. When it comes to the rose petals, this is the first hotel that we experience where rose petals translates to some low-quality fabric which is supposed to look like rose petals, but were not actual rose petals. Also the attractive candles they refer to on their homepage, are the cheapest, standard tealight candles that exist in any store. Anyhow, we did enjoy the bubble bath, accompanied by a bottle of prosecco.

Afterwards we decided to go to the restaurant. We had by the reception been told there are two different menus, one for the Poterne restaurant and one for the wellness restaurant, both kitchens open until 22:00. As we liked the menu of the wellness restaurant more, we went there. By the door we were advised though to go to the other restaurant, because we were dressed. Yes, literally dressed. As the Poterne restaurant seemed more upscale we doubted could we go there dressed very low-key, but we could – and it turned out both menus were available there, which was different than we were told upon check-in. The food and wine was good though.

Back to the room. The beds and bedlinen seemed of good quality, and we slept well.

Prior to our arrival, which we even double-checked upon actual arrival, we had informed the hotel that we had to leave earlier the next day as we had rented a boat in De Rijp, and thus requested breakfast in bed latest at 9:00. Both ladies at reception confirmed this was possible, and at the same time they checked what we wanted to have for breakfast. The following day though, at 9:10, still no breakfast. My husband went and checked to the reception, and it had not been noted down. Well, it meant heading to the restaurant after having packed the bag, to have a rush five minute breakkie. Not what we paid for, not what we expected. Moreover, the breakfast was very poor with few to no choices.

At checkout I requested for compensation for the blunder, and there was a pleasant lady, who seemed most customer-service minded so far. She took one breakfast (20 EUR) off the bill.

In conclusion, this was an okay place for a night stay, but we would not return. In my view, their marketing was a bit deceiving, and they did not get the service right. At least this time.

I just used the spa facilities today and asked directly upon arrival at 11.15 if I could book a massage treatment. The receptionist informed me I could do so at the spa receptionist. So I went there directly, but receptionist was not there. I went to the spa for 30 min and went back. Again nobody there. Third time around I spoke to one of the therapists and she told me to come back in 15 min to book it. So i did, again nobody there. I went to front office again to book and then the answer was that the treatments where fully booked!!!!! This surprised me as all treatment rooms where available and staff was chatting with each other. This all happened in a time frame of one hour, so i still can not believe there was nothing available before 4pm. Really not the way you should handle guest requests at any time. Such a shame that people who want to spend some extra money are (not) treated this way. I am considering not to go there again.
In addition to this all the service is quiet slow in the restaurant. It took them 15 minutes to prepare and bring an orange juice (with only 10 guests in the restaurant).

This was booked as a surprise birthday present for my (German) partner - she loves saunas! I, on the other hand, hate them - typical British prudishness! This was a good compromise, as it was big enough to have everything to satisfy a sauna-enthusiast but exclusive/intimate enough to ensure some degree of British respectability. That being said, I'd rather not see reproductive organs flapping about and bulbous pleasure zones bouncing whilst I eat the delicious food served - some people really are brazen!

The suite was large and to a high spec. The lack of blinds in the bathroom was a tad annoying, but, considering the purpose of the resort, hardly surprising.

I've already touched upon the food, but I need to add that the restaurant options were good and the food tasty. Breakfast was also good.

The only negative point was the lack of any documentation in English. The Dutch are incredibly good at languages, so I was lucky that they could all speak English, but I would expect a resort of this standard to be more international.

In all, a lovely place to stay if you like to flash your bits and be flashed.

I had a day free during a business trip to visit Dutch countryside and this hotel had good reviews. I used booking.com and they mentioned bicycle hire and free wi-if. The wi-if was true, bicycle hire was not available and I specifically chose the hotel to cycle to Edam and Voldendam, instead of which I had a to call a taxi at €44 each way. The girl on reception wasn't very polite, nor helpful, felt like all the effort was on my part. She had no local knowledge, didn't offer any info on the hotel and I felt they didn't want me to stay. If I hadn't pre-paid I would have left immediately. The spa was extra € and so was the outdoor pool. I had a quick look around while waiting and thought I'd walked into the ladies changing room by mistake, then realized this was a nudist spa. As a lone business traveller I would not recommend this hotel. Interior renovation was well done but there was no atmosphere, a harsh exterior, nowhere to walk or relax outside (where was the garden?), and frankly I was delighted to leave. The hotel felt lonely and there were few guests. Noise reverberated down the old corridors of the fort. On departure, although I'd paid a reservation on Amex, the hotel wouldn't accept my card. Very disappointing overall.

We have stayed here several times and have always enjoyed the experience. They have the best hammam I've ever had with great atmosphere. Several new features including the opportunity to do yoga have been added. The rooms are unique having re-purposed some sort of armory. We will definitely be going here again.
