We love the Caramulo and we want to return again to visit the museums and see the immense valley until the Serra da Estrela mountain. The check in was friendly, fast and efficient and they put us in a room with a view of Estrela Mountain. We stayed at 322 which was recently renovated. The view is amazing. We arrived in the late afternoon of a very hot August day and were still able to go to the pool which was almost empty because we went out to dinner. The next day we wanted to go but it was very busy because it is small for the number of guests. The indoor pool is larger but full and children and some excess chlorine. The saunas are small but empty as was the very complete gym. We eventually decided to go to dinner at the hotel. It was a big surprise. We opted for the buffet. It had several excellent local cheeses and sausages, especially the blood black pudding, very, very good indeed. Two main dishes the extraordinary cuttlefish stew, the right expression is made as if it were by our grandmother's hand. The other dish of veal stew with mashed potato is also well above average, the veal better seasoned than that of my grandmother, and the soft and seasoned mashed potato with chef's hand. We passed near the hotel on a warm night, all very calm. We head to the room with the extraordinary and relaxing night view on the balcony. The next morning we had breakfast in a room that was too hot, the normal offer full of people. August does not allow you to enjoy this hotel because there are too many people. just 100 meters from the art museum and next to the car. The hotel staff are all very young, fast and always very friendly, efficient and with a smile. The hotel needs some renovation, but everything works. On the 3rd week of September it will be a perfect relaxation destination.…
This is an historic hotel in a beautiful property and wonderful views but unfortunately due to some legal problems on its ownership it has been left quite in disarray for the last years. The superior rooms are agreeable, specially the ones facing the mountain view but the common areas are not properly maintained and the staff lacks skills and goodwill. It can only improve or go under....
This is an old hotel with old furniture and all the ammenities included are really old and looks like that are not maintained for a while.. The staff are super nice. simply not worth the prize. The rooms don't have plugs !
We wanted to visit the motor museum in Caramulo and this hotel is idea as it is across the road. The outside is nothing to look at but the hotel is very pleasant if somewhat dated. The room was very large with a magnificent view over the valley, One of the most comfy beds I have slept in, it had a nice size bathroom and everywhere was very clean and nicely looked after. There is very little choice in Caramulo for dinner so we ate in the hotel restaurant which was also excellent if somewhat more expensive than we would pay normally, because of it being in a hotel. Breakfast was varied and very good and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
This is na hotel very quite and very vintage decorated. the stuff is very helpfull. the views are incredible, and you can be in the pool just in the middle of a great garden in top of the mountain. you better eat in the hotel, as the village doesn´t have a great choice.
"Choose rooms with view to the mountain and 3 or 4 level to avoid any noise from the pool."Read full review
