Having stayed at this hotel in the summer for Afro nation, I found myself back again for very different reasons. My father had taken ill whilst on holiday and so I travelled out to be with him, along side my Mum and Aunt. I cannot thank the hotel enough for there support during a very traumatic time. The location and size of the rooms were just what we needed, they moved beds around to make it work for us, arranged collection of clothes from another hotel as well as transport back and fourth to hospital, sending emails and photo copying for insurers etc. They always gave us a warm welcome in the morning and made sure we were ok and checked in on my fathers recovery. I truly could not have asked for anything more, this place will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you.
On arrival at Club Armarilis the receptionist was welcoming, polite and happily explained what to do around Portimao and Praia Da Rocha. Our room was exceptionally clean and tidy and super spacious with a balcony (which was an added bonus as we didn't even know we would have one). The hotel itself was large and clean with a lot of facilities including an outdoor pool (not heated however, and it was freezing!) with a snack bar where the food such as hot dog, burger, chips ect were included with your booking. Also inside there was another pool with a sauna and a fully equipped gym, also in the hotel lobby there is a pool table. The prices for the buffet meals were exceptional for what you were offered, a brilliant amount of food that caters to all along with a drink included. Couldn't ask for more really and it was only a 5 minute walk to the beach and promenade. My only gripe was we weren't told that the buffet for the lunch and dinner would stop halfway throughout our stay due to being out of season which was a bit disappointing because we enjoyed having breakfast there every morning. I would happily stay here again in a heatbeat!…
The location, staff, pool all marvelous. The outfitting of the kitchen was minimal at best. I washed dishes with the shampoo. Breakfast was ok, dinner -yuk. Had a fantastic mojito by the pool when I got in but went back two days later and could not get a mojito, they didn't have any of the snack things like pizza by the pool either. Poorly stocked??
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on a self catering basis, which was absolutely perfect for us. For the price we paid, we could not have asked for a more perfect place! The apartment had a good sized bedroom, large living and dining area, spacious balcony and a fully equipped kitchen which was perfect for the few meals we ate at the apartment. The transfer from the airport was around an hour long, it took us slightly longer due to having to wait for other passengers who had actually decided to get a private taxi and hadn’t informed the reps so the whole coach waited for them, but all being well this journey wasn’t bad at all! When we arrived, check in was smooth and simple. We arrived around 10:30 and asked the receptionist where we could grab some food and they gave us a map and full explanation, so so helpful and lovely. There are four lifts for the whole hotel but they were never too busy (may be different during peak times). The hotel was clean, and fairly quiet. No disturbances during the night at all. The cleaning staff are brilliant, towels and sheets changed every day. The one bed apartments have a bedroom with two twin beds pushed together, and the large living room has a sofa bed which turns into a large double. So great for families, you would still only need a one bed apartment! In terms of location, it was a 3-5 minute walk from EVERYTHING- the beach, restaurants, bars, shops, bus stops, supermarkets. The location is just absolutely spot on perfect, we couldn’t have asked for better. I did read some reviews before going that said the paths near the hotel are dangerous, don’t be put off by these, they are not dangerous at all. The only time it would be tricky is if you have limited mobility and wanted Access the beach as it is down a good set of steep stairs. I do believe further down the strip there is a ramp to access the beach in a wheelchair however this is still steep. Everything else is perfect and just a stones throw away! We did not eat at the hotel restaurant/cafe so cannot comment on the food but if you did want to and were self catering it was very cheap to eat there. The nearby restaurants and bars were fantastic. The all you can eat Asian restaurant next to the spar shop is unbelievable, the best sushi I’ve ever eaten, so much choice of Chinese food, Indian, Thai, tepin Yaki, etc. absolutely stunning food, we ate there three times!!! La Capricosa have the most beautiful pizza and pasta and are so reasonably priced and moonlight bar which overlooks the beach was so welcoming and friendly and well priced for drinks in the evening. There is so so so much choice you will not go without! We didn’t explore much further than a ten minute walk from the hotel because there was just so much within that area! There is a lidl or aldi which is easy to get to by bus or a 25 minute walk from the hotel, however we did not go there, we used the spar shop by the beach which had most things you could want or need! Probably slightly more expensive than the lidl but we only ate a few meals at the apartment so didn’t want to make a special trip. Toiletries like SUNCREAM, shampoos etc are really really well priced so unless you use something specific, I wouldn’t bother bringing any in your suitcase as it is just so easy to get whilst you’re there! The beaches are absolutely stunning, once you get down there! Lots of lovely little beach cafes for drinks and food throughout the day. You also have the choice to pay for loungers on the beach which were 15 euros for the whole day for two. You can also just set up by yourself on the sand for free, some of the shops sell parasols and deck chairs etc which may be worth buying at the beginning of your holiday! There were some “sellers” who would come round offering towels, hats, jewellery etc, but were not persistent and left once you said no thankyou (and actually the towels were really lovely for 10 euros if you forget your beach towel or cover up!) Weather wise we stayed from 8th October to the 15th October, it was very slightly overcast for the first two days, but still a comfortable temperature. It then stormed for a couple of hours in the afternoon of the second day, and the remainder of the week was absolutely glorious with temperatures between 22 and 27. We are returning next year to the same hotel in the same place around the same time, because we just couldn’t fault it! It’s not anything fancy, the apartments are slightly dated but that didn’t bother us in the slightest! It was clean, safe and had everything we possibly needed. So if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful holiday with everything you need in arms reach, I’d highly recommend this place. Just stunning!…
The staff were very rude and unwelcoming. They wouldn’t let us have a late checkout because they said they were too busy but I checked on booking.com and there was plenty of rooms.food wasn’t great. Only nice staff there was was the man who worked at the bar beside the pool.
We were using the pool area, We went to the pool bar for lunch (we were not all inc) Ordered 2 cheese toasted the miserable girl behind the counter no bread. Really! I’m sure there would be bread in the resturant area for all inc guests. Do not offer a facility you cannot supply
What a lovely find. Excellent value for money hotel. I stayed in a one bed apt. What a generous size. So clean and comfy. Full size fridge freezer, dining table, couch. Okay yes bathroom and kitchen fittings were aged, but they were clean and worked. The hotel itself has a lovely pool area, excellent buffet. Staff were incredibly helpful. Hotel is a five minute walk from the beach and supermarkets even closer.
We arrived very late due to flight delays. Joe on reception was extremely welcoming & friendly & gave us lots of good advice plus some sandwiches, drinks & fruit as we missed the evening meal. Our room was huge, we had large lounge room, plus a kitchen area & bedroom, bathroom & balcony. Absolutely tons of storage space too plus a safe. Rooms were dated but clean & comfortable. We were all inclusive. The food was mostly good. There was a small vegetarian section which could have been a bit more adventurous but was perfectly tasty. The pool & bar area always had spaces available. Personally I appreciate staff not allowing the reservation of sunbeds. There was no entertainment but its usually pretty formulaic in other venues & we were not missing it at all. The beach is 5 minutes walk & lovely, if a bit "touristy"!! it's quite a few flights of stairs down to the beach which is fine going down but you do have to return back up them!!! All in all we had a very pleasant stay here. …
Where do I start? Food is utterly abysmal, if you have kids I would avoid this place as they really don't cater for them at all. We asked if nuggets could be put on for our son and they were provided just twice - if you are going to attract guests of all ages you really need to do your homework here. I'm not expecting a la carte, but I do think it's not unreasonable to expect it to be hot and not dry. The pool is nice, fairly large and generally uncrowded but there are some rather absurd rules on the go. You can take drinks there, but cannot take food. Now if this is to avoid litter, then there still is due to drinks containers (tiny plastic efforts) so it seems pointless to me. And it seemed to be only done on certain days - some days it was completely ignored by staff, on others strictly enforced, as were the towel rules. Saw folk taking down towels from their rooms which were just ignored. Being a family of three, we couldn't go to lunch together or our towels would be removed. Now I know you can't expect to "reserve" sun loungers for a whole day, but quite literally talking 30 minutes here but that wasn't allowed. Pool is open from 9 through to 7, we'd gone down one day at about 8.45 but not to swim - simply to sit at the pool. Grumpy guy scattering stuff in the pool (not sure what this was) (at 8.45 mind and it opened 15 minutes later) chased both of us from the loungers and out the pool area! The rooms are dated and in need of refurbishment. Continually you'd hear folk dragging their wooden furniture across the floor, walls like paper and so are the floors. Absolutely no entertainment day or night, the poolside bar is opened from 9.30 pm to 11 pm but rarely attracts more than a dozen folk to a place where all they can do is chat and drink from plastic cups. When we arrived at 9.30 pm on a Friday night we'd just missed dinner (this turned out to be a good thing) and were provided with a bag with sandwiches and fruit - two slices of dry bread with very inexpensive meat and cheese, a banana and tiny bottle of water. I'd to nip round the corner to the shop to get some real food and refreshments. Food was bland, tasteless and repetitive. Serious danger of someone getting hurt in the buffet cafe as there was a bottleneck when you'd to queue for a table, this being right beside where they dispensed drinks - also young children wandering around with plates nearby - an accident waiting to happen! Being right beside a busy dual carriageway it was very noisy due to folk thinking it was okay to speed up and down. I know some have had good experiences, but I really don't understand why - hotels rely on repeat business but I cannot see what the attraction would be to return here. Would we return to the Algarve - of course, it's a beautiful place. Just not here.…
Just had a 7day stay here and we loved it. Upon arrival the staff are very welcoming and friendly, the hotel was very tidy and clean. We stayed in room 1206 on the 12th floor and oh my goodness we had a balcony probably the size of 10 average balconies put together. We had a huge outdoor kitchen/BBQ area, outdoor dining area and 4 sun loungers to lay and enjoy the sun all day long. Stunning views of the city, beach, harbour, sunrise and sunset from our balcony. Maids came every day which was lovely. Apartment was 2bedroom and was huge, size of a good size bungalow back in England. Loads of storage space, fully equipped kitchen area and plenty of extra bedding and towels. Pool area was perfect, I really liked how you were not allowed to reserve sun beds which meant you didn't go down to the pool and they were all taken by people who were not even there. Great little pool bar, again staff were very friendly. Restaurant has plenty seating and a good variety of food, although not much to our taste so we actually ate out a lot after going in and checking what was available. Breakfast however was amazing. Good variety of drinks included, served in small/half glasses but staff happily put in bigger glass when asked. No diluted squash in restaurants, pubs or supermarket so if you like squash for kids I'd recommend packing a bottle to bring with you. Aircon in the room was a good send in this heat. You could clearly tell the staff worked very hard to ensure the hotel was kept in very good condition and guests looked after. Local beaches are spectacular, we especially preferred the one on the right hand side which had caves to explore too. If you go here sit on the sand closest to stairs and before first set of caves as the sand has less/barely any rocks and shells in the water compared to other parts of the beach so you don't hurt your feet. If you go to beach buy a donut off the people walking round with big coolers; they are devine we had chocolate ones and cream ones. Guys selling big beach throws too, I'd recommend one they were great as a blanket to sit on. Indian restaurant opposite the stairs down to beach is really good value for money and very tasty. Lots and lots of shops and bars and restaurants on the main strip (3-5min walk from hotel entrance). We soon learnt that the shops stay open till at least midnight so we enjoyed the sun during the day then went shopping on evenings. Get a Uber taxi to Aqua shopping centre (about 8mins away) there.is loads of shops and restaurants there; again open till about midnight. During the day the streets are cheerful but on an evening it's like the city comes to life, lots of people shopping, lots of extra restaurants, stalls, shops, kids rides etc open up. Night times were great to be out with all the locals. The bistro restaurant (near the Indians) served the best rib eye steak I've tasted. If you walk along the beach all the way to harbour (20-30min walk) there is lots more restaurants, water sports and excursions, we booked a dolphins and cave boat trip with 'sea dolphins' and it was great we got to see loads of dolphins (book the 9am boat). The caves are so beautiful to go and view too. Location was amazing, we really wish we stayed longer and we would 100% come back to this hotel but go self catering or half board if available.…
