#2 of 6 hotels in Riparbella
Antico Borgo San Martino, a wonderful Resort nestled in the Tuscan countryside, just 30 km far away from Volterra and San Gimignano and 7 km far away from the most beautiful tuscan seaside. Built half way of neorinascimental architecture, completely renovated and restored, re-using precious and original materials to be true to the authentic design. The original main Villa (historical building) became an exclusive hotel few years ago, boasting 32 bedrooms (some with original frescos), all beautifully furnished with private bath (shower) mini-bar, television, hairdryer and telephone. During the summer, our guests may enjoy a nice panoramic outdoor swimming pool.

This place isn't the most luxurious but it is a very nice experience. The staff is nice. The location is easily accessible and the rooms are clean. The breakfast is small and simple but nice. The pool is nice and big with enough beds. Would recommend this place as a starting point to places nearby.

The AC was 2 feet from the bed and never cooled the room, we couldn’t breathe! There is no AC in the bathroom, very hot! The fridge wasn’t cold. There was no elevator and we had to leave our stuff in the car because it was 3 flights up! We had to change for the Andrea Bocelli concert and we left there sweaty. There was no staff at night. Buildings are not marked and we had to walk back and forth on the gravel until we found someone. One person is expected to do everything at the desk (she was nice). The parking lot and walkway are not paved, all gravel. Not great for pulling luggage! Breakfast was ok. Very isolated, halls are empty, quite eerie. Would never stay there again, and wouldn’t recommend.

We were recommended this hotel as a base for our tour of this part of Tuscany but when I read some of the reviews I was unsure if we had chosen the right hotel. Having been I cannot understand how people found fault. Firstly, on arrival the reception staff were pleasant and helpful and this continued throughout our weeks stay. Nothing was too much for them, they always had a smile especially the young lady with her hair up! Secondly, comments had been made about the bar and restaurant staff not smiling. We found nothing further from the truth. The bar man was always smiling and the restaurant waiters/waitresses and the pizza chef were as nice as you could want. Thirdly, there had been some comments about the cleanliness of the pool. We found it clean and an excellent area. Best of all my partner who is not a good swimmer liked the fact that the pool was of a constant depth of only around 1.5m. The food in the restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. The best meal is the tuna mojita. Try it. The bar also has a happy hour around 5pm when you can get an Aperol for 4euros - well worth it. There is wifi throughout the hotel so no excuses not to keep in touch with people if that is what you do. Air conditioning in the hotel rooms works very well and was needed during our stay as temperatures were in the mid 30's. The only negative is the breakfast which is tinned fruit and plastic ham/cheese. Tuscany should be able to do better than this.

Staff s not there upon arrival, they do not answer the phone and so in our case we had to look for another place after 3 hours wait. They never refunded the money and the staff behave horribly when we returned again the day after.

I was there with my partner this last summer. The palace is wonderful. The location too, as even if is not close to the besche, it is suorrended by a nice park. On the other hand, there are many things that should improved: the water in the swimming pool is very durty, the waiters are incredible not professional, breakfast is ridiculos....could be much much better
