Enjoy your stay in Santa Caterina!
Hotel San Matteo is a very comfortable family hotel right in the middle of Santa Caterina. The proprietors go out of their way to welcome you, to cater for all your dietary requirements and make your stay a really good one. The bedrooms are warm and spotlessly clean. We always ask for a bath but the hotel also has showers. The food is traditional to the area and the menu offers a very good choice. There are always salads and fruit available. The wines are local. The hotel caters for couples, families, young children and babies The hotel is only 5 mins away from the chair lift and is central for all cafes.
We have stayed at this hotel many times. It is less than 5 mins to the slopes so very convenient. The accommodation is comfortable, very clean, choice of bath or shower, and cleaned daily. The menu is locally based and the hosts are happy to meet individual dietary needs. The lounge area is comfortable and you can access wifi there and also in the bedrooms. The hotel is excellent value and we will be returning !
Returned to this hotel for a week on the slopes. Was as wonderful as ever; Lydia and Nicola are terrific hosts. The rooms are clean and warm, and the food is excellent. There really is nothing bad to say about this hotel.
We have visited San Matteo several times. The staff are always happy to meet your requirements whether it be a request for a bath rather than shower and will also adapt the menu for particular dietary needs. Excellent local wines and varied evening menu with plenty of salads, breads, cheese in addition to the starter, main choruses and desserts. Flexible breakfast menu. Spotlessly clean and very warm bedrooms. Cleaned daily. The lounge area is comfy and you can access wifi. The hotel is only 5 mins walk from the slopes. Staff got up to provide breakfast at 5.39 before we left.
The hotel is located on the road toward the centre of Santa Caterina and for this reason it is quite handy, also thanks to the parking space next to it. The place must have seen better days and it now looks old and tired. The younger staff is friendly but overall we didn't feel welcome. Well far from the 'homely atmosphere' described in their web-site. The English of people at the reception is minimal. The bike store is just a garage, and the access to it is across their trash bins area. Not impressive.
I will keep this short as I have reviewed this hotel in more detail when we have previously visited, but the San Matteo is a great place to stay with extraordinarily friendly hosts and great food, all at a sensible price. I cannot recommend this hotel enough - many thanks Fam. Confortola for another great holiday!
Lovely family run hotel. Excellent food with local wines and menus. Comfortable and very clean bedrooms, easily accessible and spacious lounge area. Wifi available in lounge area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Half board accommodation ideal. Only 5 mins from the chair lift upto the slopes.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel San Matteo since it offers everything you need: simple but clean hotel rooms (although a little out-dated interior), good food and only some steps away from the centre and ski lift. The owner is really nice and helpful whereas his wife left us with the impression that she was more occupied with the hotel's and restaurant's cleanliness than the guest's well-being and she rather does not welcome children when acting too much as children.
We arrived here without a booking and were made very welcome. On check-in we were asked if we wanted B&B or evening meal included. As the town is small it seemed sensible to opt for the evening meal. What a good decision! The meal was wonderful, 3 courses, each with a choice and each freshly prepared. Unfortunately, this gave us high hopes for breakfast but that was more basic, although very fresh. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Pretty much what I would expect from a ski resort and a 3 star hotel. No complaints from me!
Santa Caterina was once a ski destination that a number of UK tour operators made accessible by package holiday, however today it only those few in the know who visit. The resort as a whole is one of, if not the; most family friendly place in the alps to ski and comprises a small village that existed long before skiing with a compact but snow-sure ski area serviced by modern lifts and snow making equipment. The Hotel San Matteo is the very epitome of this quiet and incredibly welcoming place; run by the same family owners for decades and offering superb value for money and a safe, friendly and clean environment to stay in, both the hotel and resort are a hidden gem. The very fact that we have visited the same hotel too many times to count since at least the 90's hopefully says it all. The rooms are simple and practical but spotlessly clean and the nothing is too much trouble for Lidia, Nico or their staff. Rooms come with either a bath or shower so best to specify if you have a preference. The rooms at the front of the hotel have the best views, however there is a small bar below the front of the hotel which can on odd occasions create some noise, but certainly not every night. The owners are very knowledgeable about the area and are pleased to help you plan excursions, and speak Italian to locals to arrange almost anything you want such as taxi's, bookings, lift passes, and transfers to and from the airport or train station. The half board option is great with a fresh and diverse continental breakfast, and traditional local cuisine for dinner extending to about five or six courses: typically antipasto appetiser, then a starter (choice of 2 each day), then main course (choice of 2 each day), and then cheese and desert chosen from a buffet style array. Salad, bread etc is also available throughout the meal all inclusive. Nico offers a great selection of good quality local and domestic wines alongside some from further afield. Our Son suffers from some quite sever allergies and was catered for superbly, often having something ex-menu prepared in an incredibly accommodating manner. Overall this in one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. It's not super modern or trendy, it is simply the most welcoming of places and fantastic value for money.…
