Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The house is difficult to find because the plaque is very small and faded.
Jack, the owner is very friendly and tries to make you feel at home. But what happens is that I am a person who likes everything organized and in its place and when I entered I did not feel comfortable. (Photo)
The same thing happens in the breakfast room. It doesn't lack anything for a continental breakfast, but I found 2 poorly washed cups and a moldy cheese in the fridge. ( photos)
The cleanliness of the room and bathroom were OK.
The room was not comfortable because the curtain did not close and we woke up to the clarity of dawn. (photo)
Very easy to park.

This is a lovely stay! For me the 3 most important elements of a good B&B/Homestay are the location, the bed and the shower! This place had a fab comfy bed with 2 skylights placed overhead allowing for a clear view of the crisp starry sky outside (we stayed in the Red Room) , the shower had great water pressure with ample instant hot water and the location was beautiful. Plenty bread, cereal, fresh fruits, yogurts, teas and coffee available in the breakfast room. Also, it was great value for the area!

Three of us stayed with Jake and his family for 4 nights and were walking distance (not in heels mind you) to the local watering holes. The breakfast was DIY and plentiful which was ideal. Although the room wasn't ensuite, the bathroom was clean and well maintained with the most powerful shower imaginable! Lush.
Our room was spacious, the double bed was perfect but the single bed wasn't the most comfortable and may need a replacement mattress, unless the springs are a feature of course.
However, it would be remiss of me not to mention the particularly noisy boiler which was like a fog horn and was situated right beside our room and did affect our sleep. A lot.
Jake and his young family were absolutely lovely and didn't cut in or out on us only to offer friendly tips for things to do on the island.

Could not fault this place the hosts were fantastic and went above and beyond to make our stay great. Would recommend a car as a 25min walk to nearest pubs ect. Views to die for.lovely cosy room very clean. Bathroom had a great shower in. They leave out in guest breakfast room bread for toast ect butter spreads hams fresh fruit and milk tea coffee. This is a beautiful secluded place where you can see some of the most amazing views. Lovely village down the road with great pub restaurants and not far away from another sea view town where there are more selection of restaurants and pubs. Jake and Ger the hist made us feel so welcome and we're going to make a trip back definitely at some point just to see them again...had the best Time.

Superb place to stay if you want to feel at home.....the Breakfast makes a welcome change from greasy spoon cheap sausage an bacon masquerading as local fare. Loadsa cereal, porridge, granola, muesli, yogurt, milk, OJ, bread and massive generous bowl of fruit to choose from. We loved the Melon. Herbal Tea, Breakfast Tea, Instant Coffee or Ground Coffee, Hot Chocolate and spreads and Ham and Cheese.....the Beds where super comfortable and the shower is to die for. Jake and Ger are like family welcoming you home.

Jake is a kind, laid back, welcoming informal host and if you are chilled and not fussy about noise & everything working OK then this is a treat. Has outstanding views of the bay and that's its USP. We found it a bit tired, cluttered and in need of a make over so there'd be no need for post-it notes on fixtures that "have issues". Our night there was disturbed by guests (?) returning from night out at 1.30 in morning and then the noisy house cat outside our room an hour later. Maybe I'm a light sleeper and over fussy but come on...

We found Jake and his family very friendly and accomodating.

The rooms are small, but clean and comfy, all you need for a couple of nights on Achill. Walking distance (20-30 mins) from beaches and good eating spots.

Breakfast is help yourself to fruit, yoghurt, cereal, toast at any time of the day, which suited us well.

Thanks guys!

The room was very clean and comfortable. Shower was nice and bathroom super clean too.
See through bathroom door was really weird though... we were also awoken by shouting coming from downstairs at around 11.00/11.30pm. We thought at first it might have been a drunken guest but after hearing what was being said, it appeared to be the hosts. Have never experienced anything like this and it made us feel very comfortable.
Breakfast was not good. Kitchen area was so messy. A couple of Lidl plastic wrapped pastries and toast was the height of it... the kitchen table was such a mess. Between that and the previous nights shouting, we were happy enough to leave.

We went to Achill Island on a last minute weekend trip and booked into this Homestay late in the week. After arriving very late, Jake was there to greet us and let us in. The room was lovely, shower super and bed comfy. Slept pretty late to be very presently awoken by the sound of a harp being practiced downstairs and the usual sound of family life..this is homestay at its finest! Breakfast was as described and we found Geraldine, Jake & their family to be great conversation and very helpful indeed. J
